I rely on unlimited life extension

Is Chapter 2 a stroke of luck or misfortune?

Cheng Yi is a complex individual; he is both fortunate and deeply mired in misfortune.

He is considered lucky because he is a special being with a system.

Yes, it all started on the day he graduated from university.

That was a day of extraordinary significance for Cheng Yi, not only because it was an important moment for him to leave campus and embark on a new stage of life, but also because it was his birthday.

On that very day, as the morning sun shone on his young and energetic face, a magical system appeared in his world without warning.

At that moment, Cheng Yi was immersed in the complex emotions of graduation and his birthday when suddenly, a transparent system notification interface came into view.

The interface shimmered with a strange light, and various mysterious symbols and information danced on it, as if it were a summons from another dimension.

Cheng Yi was completely stunned. He stared wide-eyed at the magical object that had appeared out of nowhere, and remained astonished for a full ten minutes.

During those ten minutes, his mind was in chaos, with all sorts of guesses and questions flooding in like a tide. He didn't know what this system meant.

During his university years, Cheng Yi read many novels and watched many TV dramas. In these dramas, the protagonists obtained a system and went from being a nobody to becoming invincible, dominating the world, and achieving immortality through countless trials!

At that time, Cheng Yi thought he was about to have a fortune of hundreds of millions, three palaces, six courtyards, and seventy-two concubines, and be awesome and radiant.

However, to Cheng Yi's surprise, his system only had one line of text.

The system indicates that you have hours left to live.

Ok? ? ?

Cheng Yi took out a calculator and did the math. Good heavens, he only had less than 417 days left to live.

"No way! What the hell is this? What kind of system is this?" Cheng Yi's face was full of disbelief, his brows furrowed tightly.

"I'm still so young, and you're telling me I only have a little over a year left? How is that possible? I wouldn't believe it even if you killed me!"

In the days that followed, Cheng Yi's life became busy and arduous.

Every day, he worked hard at the company, spinning like a tireless top, whipped around by the heavy workload; at the same time, he was silently scheming and racking his brains for solutions.

He longed for his system to unleash powerful abilities like those systems in novels. His demands weren't high; he didn't aspire to fame, success, or to become an object of admiration.

He only hopes to live a comfortable life, to have his own house, even if it's not big, it's a warm haven; to have a car that can shelter him from the wind and rain; and to have a sum of money in the bank that gives him peace of mind.

In this way, he will have the courage to fall in love and the ability to build a happy family.

He didn't have those unrealistic fantasies, and he didn't think about flying or having magical superpowers.

All he asks for is to fulfill his duties as an ordinary worker in this cruel workplace. He hopes to work steadily and peacefully for his entire life, never be fired by his boss, and then work until retirement, smoothly receiving his pension. Such a simple life is enough for him.

He didn't have high expectations for his love life. He couldn't imagine having the kind of luxury that only existed in ancient times, like having three wives and four concubines.

He only desires to find a pure and innocent woman to spend his life with. Of course, if he could meet a woman who, despite having had past relationships, is like a goddess in his eyes, that would be even better.

As for children, Cheng Yi takes a laissez-faire attitude. Having grown up in an orphanage, he has a deep aversion to this issue.

He knew all too well how hard life was, and that his own life was already so difficult; having a child was undoubtedly the greatest luxury for him.

Bringing a new life into this world means taking responsibility for it! Parents need to worry about every aspect of their child's life, education, medical care, future education, work, and even dating and starting a family.

But these were too difficult for Cheng Yi. He was just an ordinary person who graduated from the Chinese Language and Literature Department of a third-rate university. His IQ and EQ were both below average. These problems were like insurmountable mountains to him, standing in the way of his pursuit of a happy life.

After obtaining the system, Cheng Yi racked his brains and tried every possible method to activate it.

He tried all sorts of extreme and crazy things. First, he mustered up the courage to touch the switch, and the stinging sensation of the current passing through his body almost made him faint. Then, he deliberately created opportunities to be hit by a car on the road, and each time he narrowly escaped death. He even went bungee jumping and felt the fear of his heart almost jumping out of his throat as he fell from the sky. He also worked overtime desperately, pushing himself to the limits of his body and mind, and was exhausted to the point of being half dead.

Even so, his system remained unchanged, still displaying that same shocking, bloody message: "System notification: You have xxx hours left to live."

Time passed slowly, a week passed, a month passed, two months passed, and half a year passed in the blink of an eye.

During this period, Cheng Yi successfully passed his probationary period and gloriously became a qualified 9-to-5 worker. In these six months, that system notification was like a persistent ghost, appearing before his eyes countless times, constantly reminding him.

At first, he felt like one in a billion lucky person, after all, having a system was like winning the lottery.

However, as time went by, this surprise gradually faded. He went from being overjoyed to being indifferent, and finally to feeling utterly disgusted with the system.

After all, who would like a system that constantly reminds them when they're going to die? It's like a Damocles' sword hanging over Cheng Yi's head, casting a shadow over his life.

Another six months passed, and Cheng Yi continued to work hard at the company.

He accepted the promises his boss made, knowing that most of those beautiful promises were unlikely to be fulfilled, but he still worked hard through diligence and forbearance.

Gradually, he became an elite employee in the company's eyes. His figure moved through every corner of the company, from the boss's office to the restroom. Whether it was cleaning or repairing light bulbs, computers, doors and windows, he took on all the odd jobs without complaint.

Throughout the company, from leaders to ordinary employees, everyone was used to directing him to do things; he was like an all-powerful little brother.

However, his efforts were not entirely in vain. At the company's awards ceremony, Cheng Yi finally received a substantial reward—the honorary title of "Outstanding Employee" and a bonus of 5000 yuan.

This was the first time Cheng Yi felt that his efforts had been substantially recognized. With the bonus in hand, he went to a self-service hot pot restaurant.

He spent 49.9 yuan on free beer, downing it glass after glass, and gradually became completely drunk under the influence of alcohol.

His face was flushed, his eyes were somewhat unfocused, and his heart was filled with mixed emotions. Perhaps only in this moment could he temporarily forget the system notification that felt like a nightmare and enjoy this brief moment of relief.

Just as Cheng Yi was making plans to continue to give her all and strive towards becoming an outstanding employee for the second year, the company announced the good news of a company-wide physical examination, which was a great benefit for everyone.

However, he never expected that this medical examination would become a turning point in his life.

Shortly after the physical examination, he received a notification that there was a shadow in his head.

At first, Cheng Yi didn't pay much attention. After all, the large-scale physical examinations organized by the company were usually just cursory checks, and it was normal for some minor errors to occur.

He continued working as usual, his mind still preoccupied with various work-related matters.

However, when the detailed examination results came out, he was completely stunned.

The report clearly stated that he had brain cancer and had less than two months to live.

This news struck Cheng Yi like a heavy hammer, shattering his once peaceful world.

His eyes became vacant, he held the examination report in his hand, his body trembling slightly, as if the whole world had stopped turning at this moment, leaving only the cruel diagnosis echoing in his mind.

He opened the system notification he hadn't seen in a long time: You have 1200 hours left to live.

This... this is actually true?

Why should I? My ID card says I'm 23, but I'm only 21! My life has just begun! And I'm a citizen of the State of Chu!

Overnight, Cheng Yi got completely drunk in his rented room.

The next day, Cheng Yi, still exhausted from a hangover and reeking of alcohol, staggered between the five hospitals he knew.

At each hospital, he clung to a sliver of hope that the previous diagnosis was just a terrible misdiagnosis.

However, the cruel reality was that the test results from all five hospitals were identical—late-stage brain cancer. Those few cold words, like the merciless pronouncement of death, utterly crushed Cheng Yi's last hope.

For Cheng Yi, the sky had fallen.

All his hopes for the future and expectations for life vanished in that moment. He felt as if he were in a dark abyss, surrounded by endless despair.

A distraught Cheng Yi arrived at the company and submitted her resignation to the manager.

Upon hearing this, the manager readily agreed, but then immediately added a condition: he could only leave after a replacement had been found.

This request was like the last straw that broke the camel's back, causing Cheng Yi's pent-up emotions to finally erupt. Like a raging beast, he grabbed whatever was around him and smashed it into various corners of the manager's office.

In an instant, the sounds of breaking objects and Cheng Yi's angry roars mingled together in the manager's office. The manager was terrified and immediately called the police.

Just as the police were about to enter the company, the boss appeared and stopped them.

The boss walked up to Cheng Yi with a big smile and, in front of him, gave the manager a stern "criticism," his words seemingly meant to support Cheng Yi.

Then, the boss hypocritically comforted Cheng Yi: "Although I can't remember your name right now, the company has its rules."

If you keep working for another week, you'll be allowed to leave as soon as a new person is hired. Otherwise, calculating your salary will be very complicated.

Cheng Yi felt a ringing in his ears and his mind was in complete chaos. He gritted his teeth, swallowed the bitter pill once again, and reluctantly accepted the condition.

Perhaps it was a stroke of luck, but as soon as the company posted the job advertisement, a college student came to apply, and he met all the requirements.

So, on the second day, Cheng Yi finally completed the resignation procedures smoothly.

As he packed his things to leave, the boss came over, shook his hand with a big smile, and looked as if he really didn't want to part with Cheng Yi.

The boss said in an extremely "touched" tone, "The company is truly grateful for your hard work these past few days! By the way, what's your name again?"
