Chapter 455 The Death of Merganis

"No!".

Deeper within the Frozen Throne in Northrend, the Lich King Ner'zhul roared in agony. The sword forged from his other half of body had been severed from him, along with his other half of soul. The excruciating pain of his soul being torn apart nearly shattered the ice crystals that sealed Ner'zhul.

The place where Frostmourne is sealed.

"Hmph, I, the Lich King, am invincible! Foolish humans, prepare to die!" Arthas raised Frostmourne in his hand, his face turning icy cold as he slowly walked towards Lian Yang and Muradin.

"Lian Yang, you lied to me!" Muradin's expression changed drastically, and he said in a trembling tone, "He was still affected by this evil sword! Damn it, he's already a demigod!"

"No... Impossible! How could my calculations be wrong!" Lian Yang roared in disbelief, then suddenly covered his face with his hands and wailed, "Oh... Arthas, my poor friend, I have actually harmed you!"

"Then go to hell and repent!" Arthas said in a hoarse voice, his tone utterly indifferent.

"But that won't do!" Lian Yang, who was crying loudly, immediately spoke up when he heard Arthas actually telling him to die.

"Why?!" Muradin exclaimed, his voice filled with rage. "You harmed Arthas, you should pay for it with your life!"

Before Arthas could say anything, Lian Yang suddenly said, "Jaina is so beautiful. Since Arthas is dead, as his friend, I should ask him to take good care of Jaina! Otherwise, if Jaina marries someone else, Arthas's spirit in heaven will not be at peace!"

"You bastard!" Arthas couldn't keep up the act anymore when he heard Lian Yang teasing him about Jaina. He immediately said, "How do you know I wasn't affected?"

"How did he know?" Muradin, who had been looking ashen-faced, suddenly spoke up. "Young man, you probably haven't noticed, but although the aura around you is incredibly evil, it's obvious that the source is your sword, not you!"

"So even you figured it out!" Arthas slammed Frostmourne into the ground, looking utterly speechless. "I thought I was pretty good at disguising myself, but it turns out the other two already found out!"

"You're just too stupid, aren't you?" Muradin shook his head helplessly and said, "You probably didn't notice that when you picked up this sword, the pressure on the blade made it hard for me to breathe for a moment, but it completely disappeared the next second. Without a doubt, although I don't know what methods Lian Yang has, the evil spirit sealed in the sword has been eliminated."

“So that’s how it is!” Arthas nodded and said, “After all, this sword is essentially another body of the Lich King Ner’zhul, so when I picked up this sword, the voice of the Lich King Ner’zhul rang in my mind, only to be destroyed the next second.”

"Heh heh, daring to invade the consciousness of someone protected by the Hope System, I can only say that the Lich King Ner'zhul is truly ignorant and fearless!" Lian Yang knew exactly what had happened. It was 100% certain that the Lich King Ner'zhul wanted to take over Arthas's body, but the Hope System completely obliterated him the moment he touched Arthas's consciousness.

The Frozen Throne.

The Lich King Ner'zhul remains sealed within his Frozen Throne. Although he has lost half of his soul, Ner'zhul is still one of the strongest beings in this world. However, the energy fluctuations emanating from his body are so intense that everyone can sense them.

"Merganis!" Despite the excruciating pain in his soul, the Lich King Ner'zhul's voice reached Merganis's mind.

"How about it? Arthas's young body is not bad, is it!" Upon hearing the Lich King Ner'zhul's voice, Mal'Ganis immediately began to boast smugly. After all, Frostmourne was created by their Dreadlord clan, and it was Mal'Ganis who had guided them all the way to this sword.

"Damn it, your plan failed, they took Frostmourne!" Melganis's words only made the Lich King Ner'zhul's aura falter, after all, half of his soul had been torn away.

"Gulp!" Melganis swallowed hard and said, "No...no way! That's half of your body! When did humans become so powerful?!"

Mal'Ganis could hardly believe it. Frostmourne was forged from almost half of Ner'zhul's body. In other words, the sword was half of the Lich King Ner'zhul's body. Yet, even so, the connection between the Lich King Ner'zhul and Frostmourne could be severed. This power was terrifying, because it had reached the level of the soul.

"I don't know either, but I do know, Mal'Ganis, if the Burning Legion still needs me to serve them, then go and help me reclaim Frostmourne!" The Lich King Ner'zhul's tone was incredibly excited. For the Lich King Ner'zhul, who had no physical body, Mal'Ganis was simply his lifeline; he could only place his hopes on Mal'Ganis.

The Lich King Ner'zhul is the leader of the Scourge, but the Scourge serves the Burning Legion. Coincidentally, Mal'Ganis, whose position within the Scourge is extremely awkward, holds a similar position within the Burning Legion. Or rather, the entire dreadlord race is positioned within the Burning Legion as something akin to a police inspector.

As the Inspector sent by the Burning Legion to the Scourge, Mal'Ganis had the mission of maintaining the stability of the Scourge, since the Scourge was the vanguard of the Burning Legion.

“I understand!” Almost without thinking, Melganis nodded and said, “I will take care of taking back your body, but don’t have too high hopes, they are too strong!”

Mal'Ganis knew that finding Ner'zhul's body was his mission, because he needed to maintain the stability of the Scourge. He also knew that Sunfire was already an insurmountable obstacle for him, and Arthas, who had obtained Frostmourne, would surely be another insurmountable peak.

Despite the enemy's immense power, Mal'Ganis agreed to prepare to reclaim Frostmourne for the Lich King Ner'zhul. He knew very well that if he failed to reclaim Frostmourne and halt the Scourge's offensive, his fate would be worse than death.

The sealed land of Frostmourne.

"Arthas, it seems we have an old friend coming!" Lian Yang, who was chatting and enjoying the brief peace of victory, suddenly said to Arthas in a low voice.

In front of the Frostmourne Sealed Land Portal.

"Is this destiny? What a strange thing!" Melganis looked at the ancient portal before him with a self-deprecating expression.

The winds in Northrend are always strong, and the snow is always thick, but at this moment, as the gale whips up the snow, a desolate atmosphere permeates the air.

"Merganis, I must say, despite your dreadlord clan's questionable character, your forging skills are undeniable!" Arthas called out to Merganis from afar, "I'm very satisfied with this sword; it's very strong."

"Really? I'm glad you like it. Actually, the Dreadlord clan only has one weapon this good. Perhaps it was destined to be your weapon!" Mal'Ganis shrugged, speaking casually.

Holding his sword in one hand, Arthas's long golden hair fluttering in the wind, slowly walked towards Mal'Ganis and said, "You know, when I first saw the warning on this sword, I was really startled. For a moment, I was too afraid to pick it up."

“But you still picked it up, even though you saw the curse!” Melganis shrugged, curiously adding, “I’m just curious how you managed to control the sword. I think you should know its origins by now.”

“Hmm!” Arthas nodded and said, “As for the origin of this sword? You should know my friend Lian Yang. Although I don’t know why, he seems to know everything, so I know the origin of this sword very well.”

The wind blew even harder, and the snow fell even heavier, so much so that Arthas and Mal'Ganis could only see each other and could not see anything else.

"I must say, young prince, you are truly bold and lucky. I'm a little jealous of you!" Mal'Ganis was genuinely envious of Arthas's luck.

It's important to understand that Arthas's journey was almost entirely orchestrated by him and the Lich King Ner'zhul, and any misstep he made would have been catastrophic for him.

Fortunately, Arthas gained a new variable, Lian Yang. As Mal'Ganis and the Lich King Ner'zhul schemed against Arthas time and time again, they not only failed to harm him but also suffered great losses, which benefited Arthas and allowed him to grow rapidly. This time, even the Lich King Ner'zhul gave half of his body and half of his soul to Arthas.

“Jealousy?” Arthas shook his head and said, “But I only feel hatred for you and Ner’zhul. You shouldn’t have carried out your evil plans in Lordaeron and the human world. When you started making mistakes, it was already destined that you would die!”

When Arthas finished speaking, Arthas and Mal'Ganis were only a step apart, almost within reach.

"Then!" Melganis's eyes lit up, and his dark energy surged forth instantly.

"Fight!" Arthas was the same; the holy light energy emanating from his body erupted uncontrollably from the incredibly evil Frostmourne in his hand. The power of light and darkness, the power of justice and evil, condensed on the sword in Arthas's hand, appearing so eerie.

Mal'Ganis's demonic wings suddenly flapped, accompanied by a howling wind, and in an instant he charged towards Arthas. Dark energy gathered on his claws, and he fiercely attacked Arthas.

Arthas, of course, had no wings and knew he was no match for Mal'Ganis in terms of speed, but Frostmourne granted Arthas almost eternal power. Arthas simply stood still, holding the Holy Light-infused Frostmourne in one hand.

"My prince is finished!"

"You can go die now!"

"bite……".

"Pfft..."

The instant the Dark Claws touched Frostmourne, Arthas's Frostmourne pierced through Mal'Ganis's claws and plunged into Mal'Ganis's chest in a single strike.

“What a fine sword… truly worthy of being called… eternal… power…” As soon as Melganis finished speaking, he vanished instantly.

"To die on the very weapon you forged is an honor for you!" Arthas drew Frostmourne and said calmly, looking at Mal'Ganis lying on the ground.

In fact, everyone knew that Mal'Ganis was there to die, because Arthas, having obtained Frostmourne, was already a demigod or even a being beyond demigod level. This was not something that Mal'Ganis, a dreadlord and a high-ranking demon, could contend with.

However, since the entire journey was planned by Mal'Ganis and the Lich King Ner'zhul, they created a powerful enemy like Arthas. Both Ner'zhul and Mal'Ganis had to pay a price, and for a demon, sacrificing his life was perhaps the least of his worries.

"Though we are enemies, I have still prepared a final resting place for you. May you be reborn as an ordinary person!" In the icy wilderness, Arthas dug a simple grave for Mal'Ganis, after all, the sword was forged by the Dreadlord. Of course, more importantly, while Mal'Ganis was undoubtedly evil, he was also a respectable enemy. War has never been about right or wrong, justice or evil; it's simply a matter of differing ideals.

Arthas is in his camp in Northrend.

"Warriors, I have obtained this legendary sword and successfully defeated the leader of the Scourge—the Dreadlord Mal'Ganis!"

The moment Arthas stepped into the base with Muradin and Lianyang, he raised Frostmourne in one hand and roared loudly.

...The entire base in Arthas suddenly fell silent. The once noisy base was now only filled with the howling of the north wind and the sounds of machinery.

"Oh...oh...oh..." After a full half-minute of silence, a deafening roar of cheers erupted from Arthas's base. Everyone knew that Arthas had won the war against the Scourge!

"Warriors, we have won!" Arthas shouted, raising his arms. In fact, he was more excited than anyone else. Although the Lich King Ner'zhul on the Frozen Throne had not yet been defeated, there was no doubt that Arthas had won a crucial victory.
