Traveling through the game world

Chapter 2: Earth's squirrels couldn't possibly be this big and breathe fire.

"Welcome to the world of the game! This is your first stop, Dungeon & Fighter. This is your starting point, the Arnofa Forest of the Arad Continent!" The boss's voice was full of passion, and seemed to be more about happiness.

The sky was somewhat hazy, the ground was shrouded in a faint swampy vapor, and crystals were growing from the earth near the large trees. All of this told Lian Yang, who had 40 max-level characters, that this was the Arad world after the Great Transfer.

Breathing air so different from Earth's, Lian Yang asked, "Who are you? What's your name?" Having come this far, Lian Yang calmed down and knew he had to ask the questions he needed to.

The boss was no longer the character from the game; it had transformed into a sphere of light: "My name is Hope, perhaps similar to the supreme god you perceive, but we are different. I wander in the universe, drawn by your despair. My world revolves entirely around your will; I don't organize any teams, nor do I have reincarnations." It paused, then continued, "My responsibility is to make you stronger, and becoming stronger requires the power of the world. Every time you level up, fight monsters, complete quests, or even obtain equipment in each world, I draw upon that world's power. Only when you become stronger will you possess hope."

Lian Yang nodded. In this era of information overload, anything is possible. As for the future, Lian Yang didn't care at all. He only knew that the hope he had now was truly his hope—his hope of finding his beloved girlfriend: "Our goal is to conquer this world?"

"Of course not!" Hope replied decisively, "The world cannot be conquered because the so-called Heavenly Dao you perceive doesn't exist. At most, you could become the ruler of this world, but that's meaningless. Furthermore, there's a limit to the power we can draw from each world. When you exceed that limit, the world will be destroyed, and a destroyed world won't generate any energy."

Lian Yang nodded, seemingly understanding but not quite: "So, according to you, this isn't the only world I need to experience?" Since each world has a limit to the amount of energy it can absorb, naturally, after reaching that limit, the only way to become stronger is to go to the next world.

"This is where you begin. Right now, you have nothing but me; you could even say you're completely powerless. This world is the only one you've been playing around with recently, the one you're most familiar with, so this is where you begin."

This wondrous world seems somewhat different from Earth. Lian Yang said, "I understand, this is a real game world, right?"

"That's right, this is a real game world. I can provide you with services like the game store that exist in this world but not in the game. But beyond that, you'll have to rely on yourself." A glimmer of hope flashed, and he seemed even more excited: "Brother, host, only you can see my existence, and your path has already begun. Go and fight!"

In the distance, not too far, about a hundred meters away, an animal engulfed in flames charged fiercely toward Lian Yang.

One hundred meters seems far, but on Earth, an average 100-meter sprinter can finish it in under 11 seconds. And now, in a world full of strong people, those sprinting towards us don't seem to be weak either.

So...

"bump"

"what!"

A fierce scream rang out, of course, from Lian Yang: "Holy crap, is this a squirrel? Squirrels on Earth aren't this big! It's almost the size of a wolfhound!"

Although he was caught off guard and thrown into the air, Lian Yang, whose body had been strengthened the moment he arrived in this world, only felt sore all over. He wasn't seriously injured.

The violent impact was not a problem, but the mutated fire squirrels after the Great Transfer did not seem to be planning to let Lian Yang go either.

In the blink of an eye, the Flame Squirrel turned around and pounced fiercely at Lian Yang again.

Looking at the Flame Squirrel's mouthful of fangs and sharp claws, Lian Yang thought to himself, "If it pounces on me, I'll be half dead, if not dead."

Thinking it through and acting decisively, he narrowly escaped the fire squirrel's second attack.

Standing before the Flame Squirrel, Lian Yang panted heavily, "Little thing, you're pretty ruthless!" He cautiously stared at the Flame Squirrel. Although his simply modified body might not be inferior to the Flame Squirrel's, Lian Yang had absolutely no combat experience. He hadn't even killed a chicken more than a few times.

Feeling uneasy, Lian Yang didn't even dare to take the initiative to attack.

Lian Yang's reluctance did not mean that the Flame Squirrel dared not. With a squeak, the Flame Squirrel swiftly swiped at Lian Yang with its claw.

"Rip!" With the sound of clothes tearing, Lian Yang was sent flying backward. The Flame Squirrel was still too strong for Lian Yang.

"Lian Yang, you piece of trash! This little guy in front of you is the weakest creature in the world. You can't even beat it. How are you going to prove yourself?" In a daze, a hopeful voice came. The voice was filled with resentment at his incompetence.

"bump!"

Lian Yang's body slammed heavily against a nearby tree trunk, his face filled with resentment: "I'm not a piece of trash! I'll prove myself!" *Thud!*

He turned his head, spat out the blood from the corner of his mouth, raised his head, and stared at the fire squirrel in front of him: "I, Lian Yang, am not a piece of trash, and you are just the weakest creature in the world!" As Lian Yang stared at the squirrel, it was unclear whether he was speaking to himself or to the squirrel, but the seriousness and earnestness in his words were clearly visible.

"squeak!"

The fire squirrel seemed utterly disdainful, its cries filled with mockery. It then charged towards Lian Yang once more.

"Look down on me? Heh!" Since I've decided to prove myself, I naturally have to get rid of my fear first.

To the bewilderment of the Flame Squirrel, Lian Yang, who was unarmed, dared to charge at him!

"squeak!"

The fire squirrel was enraged! How dare its prey resist? Resist? The furious fire squirrel sped up once more, its sharp claws already outstretched, as if to tear its hateful prey to shreds.

The Flame Squirrel's claws slid mercilessly toward Lian Yang's chest, but Lian Yang did not back down at all, and with all his might, he slammed a punch into the Flame Squirrel's head.

"Ow!"

"squeak!"

Lian Yang roared angrily, and the screams of the fire squirrels echoed throughout the forest within a hundred meters.

The fire squirrel slashed at Lian Yang with its claws, leaving five bloody scratches on his chest. The white t-shirt he'd brought from Earth was instantly soaked through.

The Flame Squirrel wasn't faring much better; Lian Yang's punch left it dizzy, but it seemed even angrier, its belly suddenly bulging violently as if it were gathering something.

Lian Yang was terrified upon witnessing this. As a veteran DNF player, he knew perfectly well that this was the Flame Squirrel's ultimate move, the Flame Bullet. It might not seem like much in the game, but now, for Lian Yang, it was absolutely terrifying. Getting hit by it could be fatal.

The reason is simple: in the game, each new character starts with 500 health, while the Flame Squirrel's fireball deals 50 damage. In the game, this isn't much, but in the real world, that's a tenth of one's health. Moreover, Lian Yang, having transmigrated, isn't even at level 1; he's just a level 0 ordinary person with only 300 health. Just a few hits have already reduced Lian Yang to only 120 health. If he takes that fireball, half his health will be gone.

In the blink of an eye, the Flame Squirrel fired a fireball fiercely at Lian Yang. For a moment, it possessed the force of a thunderbolt.

Despite the extreme danger, Lian Yang remained calm. In battle, the worst thing is to lose your composure. He looked at the fireball in front of him and calculated its trajectory.

"Oh!"

The flamethrower hit its target.

"Hey!"

"squeak"

However, the attack missed Lian Yang and exploded on a large tree behind him. Simultaneously, Lian Yang inexplicably rolled towards the Flame Squirrel. Then, to the Flame Squirrel's horrified gaze, he delivered a powerful punch to its face.

"Ah! You wretched humans! I'll kill you!" The fire squirrel actually spoke! At this moment, its anger seemed to have reached the heavens.

However, Lian Yang wasn't surprised at all! Since this was the world of Dungeon & Fighter, the Flame Squirrel, as a type of fire spirit, was supposed to be able to talk.

"It's not certain who will die!" Compared to the Flame Squirrel's anger, Lian Yang remained unusually calm. For Lian Yang at this point, the Flame Squirrel was still too strong; if he made even the slightest mistake, he would ultimately perish. Only by remaining calm could he have a glimmer of hope.

"Fireball!" Just as he spoke, the fire squirrel actually condensed another fireball, which was impossible to dodge at such close range.

Lian Yang roared angrily, "I'll send you to hell, you little rat!" Having understood the game mechanics, Lian Yang knew very well that the Flame Squirrel's fireballs could actually charge up very quickly, but he didn't think much of it.

In terms of speed, he simply can't catch the Flame Squirrel, and if he can't catch it, he can only take hits. To attack, he must first endure the attack!

"bump!"

The fireball slammed into Lian Yang, but contrary to the Fire Squirrel's expectations that Lian Yang would be blown away, he didn't actually appear.

"Hehe, I knew you'd use this trick! Die!" Having taken the hit from the fireball, Lian Yang suddenly lunged at the fire squirrel without hesitation.

With its legs clamped around the fire squirrel's body, and one hand pressing down hard on the fire squirrel's neck, it swung its fist, as big as a bowl, and punched it again and again.

"oops!"

"Damn humans!"

"squeak!"

"Die, die!" Lian Yang ignored the Flame Squirrel's screams and punched harder and faster with each blow.

"What a ruthless kid!" Just as Lian Yang was fighting the Flame Squirrel to the death, a black figure appeared beside him, looking at him with admiration for his determination.

The Flame Squirrel was completely unaware of this; it was growing weaker and weaker. Although the attack power of the unclassed and levelless Lian Yang was not high, the frequent attacks were still too much for the Flame Squirrel to handle.

"Die! Die!"...

Lian Yang continued to pound on the Flame Squirrel with a ferocious look in his eyes. His punches were no longer as fierce or fast as they had been at the beginning, but he persisted, gritting his teeth as he persevered.

"I'm not a loser! I'm going to prove myself!"

As he spoke, he continued to pound on it. The fire squirrel, however, was now silent, seemingly dead.

"I will prove myself and bring you back to my side!"

The Flame Squirrel fell silent, and Lian Yang was also at his limit. The real world wasn't data; injuries and continuous energy depletion were inevitable. But he persisted. He had to get back to her side; he couldn't die!

"Gained 100 experience points!"

"Finally, I've killed you!" Hearing the notification sound in his ear, Lian Yang knew that the Flame Squirrel was dead. He couldn't hold on any longer. Everything went black, and he collapsed onto the Flame Squirrel.

"Want to prove yourself? Want your partner back?" Looking at the fallen Lian Yang, the black-clad figure murmured, "Luke, you would do the same, wouldn't you?"

Seeing Lian Yang, who remained resolute even in a coma, the black-clad figure spoke as he carried Lian Yang's body away from the Arnofa Forest.
