The Counterattack of a Wealthy Family's Substitute

After seeing Xi Yuanchen off, Yao Yingxi returned to the living room and sat down on the sofa.

Xi Yuanchen has been here for the past few days, so she hasn't had any time to herself and therefore no opportunity to overthink. But now that she's all alone in the apartment, she's reminded of what Yao Yingyue said that day.

No matter what, Yao Yingyue cannot stay in the Xu family.

Yao Yingxi went back to her bedroom, unplugged her phone which was charging, opened her phonebook, found Yao Yingyue's number, and dialed it.

Yao Yingyue was sitting in front of the dressing table, once again looking through Xi Yuanchen's information.

Her phone, which was on the table, vibrated. She picked it up and saw the word "sister" displayed on the screen.

After hesitating for a moment, Yao Yingyue finally swiped to answer the phone: "Sister, what's wrong?"

"Yueyue, what are you doing right now? Let's meet."

Yao Yingxi spoke as directly as ever. Yao Yingyue glanced at the sun peeking out from the clouds outside the window and said, "Okay, send the address to my phone. See you in a bit."

After saying that, Yao Yingyue hung up the phone.

Yao Yingxi frowned as she looked at the phone, which was now just a busy signal.

The snow has stopped, but the snow outside is still very thick.

Yao Yingxi changed her clothes and wrapped herself up thickly before going out.

She had arranged to meet at a bubble tea shop where the two sisters used to celebrate happy occasions. She hadn't been there in a long time. When the owner saw her, she asked, "It's been a long time since I've seen you and your sister. How have you been lately?"

"It's fine." Yao Yingxi smiled and found a table by the window to sit down.

It was only 10:30 a.m., the morning rush hour was over, and there were only a few pedestrians on the street, and not many vehicles were passing by.

Yao Yingxi stared outside for a while, and about half an hour later, a black Mercedes slowly drove up, and Yao Yingyue got out of it.

Yao Yingxi frowned as she watched her walk in.

The landlady at the front desk didn't recognize Yao Yingyue at first, even though she had changed her clothes. It wasn't until Yao Yingyue greeted her that the landlady realized who she was and hurriedly said, "Is this Yueyue?"

"Oh dear, I don't even recognize you anymore. Where's your sister? Let's go over there quickly."

"By the way, what would you like to drink? I'll make it for you and bring it over."

"A glass of lemonade, please." Yao Yingyue ordered, smiled at the proprietress, and said, "I'll head over now."

From afar, Yao Yingxi looked at Yao Yingyue, and some changes became more apparent.

Yao Yingyue sat down opposite Yao Yingxi, a smile on her face: "Sister, why did you decide to meet here?"

Yao Yingxi smiled and was about to speak when the proprietress brought over Yao Yingyue's lemonade. Also served was the milk tea that Yao Yingxi and Yao Yingyue had ordered—their favorite drink from back then.

The proprietress put down the milk tea and lemonade, then said apologetically, "Yingxi, I'm sorry, I forgot you ordered two milk teas. Should I take one away?"

"It's alright." Yao Yingxi moved the two cups of milk tea to the center of the table, took the one she wanted, and took a sip: "It's delicious, thank you, boss lady."

The proprietress said a few more words before leaving their table.

"Sis, what brings you here today?" Yao Yingyue glanced at the latest luxury brand watch on her wrist: "I'm meeting up with a new friend to go shopping today, and I'm leaving soon."

Yao Yingxi looked at Yao Yingyue and suddenly felt a sense of estrangement. She suppressed this feeling before speaking, "Yueyue, I want to ask, are you really sure you want to stay in the Xu family?"

Upon hearing this, Yao Yingyue turned her gaze to Yao Yingxi and smiled, "Sister, in your heart, am I always going to be a child who never grows up?"

"Have you forgotten that I'm actually a married man with a tarnished reputation who almost died?"

Yao Yingyue's smile carried a hint of sarcasm: "Sister, I've said it so many times, is it that I haven't expressed myself clearly, or that you simply don't want to accept it?"

This wasn't the first time Yao Yingyue had spoken to Yao Yingxi in this tone. During their meeting before she went abroad, she had questioned Yao Yingxi in the same way, asking if she thought that as long as it was a man, she could beckon to them and they would flock to her.

Yao Yingxi looked at her and forced a smile: "I'm sorry I've caused you so much trouble. But I still want to ask you, are you really sure you want to stay in the Xu family? Have you forgotten how they treated you before?"

"Why not?" Yao Yingyue asked Yao Yingxi in return. "Sister, I just want to let go of the past. I made it very clear to you that day that I am willing to try to forgive them and at the same time accept their care and compensation to me."

Yao Yingyue stood up from her chair and picked up her bag from the table: "It's almost time, so I'll be going now. If you ask me out again for something so trivial next time, I don't think we need to meet up anymore."

Yao Yingxi was still surprised by what Yao Yingyue said when she suddenly heard her turn the topic to Xi Yuanchen, and she was momentarily stunned.

Yao Yingyue waited for Yao Yingxi's answer. Yao Yingxi came to her senses, looked at her, but didn't know how to answer her question.

Her relationship with Xi Yuanchen was not the normal boyfriend-girlfriend relationship she thought it was.

"Don't worry, sis, I didn't mean anything by it, I was just concerned about you." Yao Yingyue hadn't received a reply from Yao Yingxi, so she smiled and tentatively asked, "You're so reluctant to talk about your boyfriend, are you trying to keep me at arm's length?"
