The Counterattack of a Wealthy Family's Substitute

Chapter 40 Who told you that your relationship with Xi Yuanchen is unusual?

Yao Yingxi had a very uncomfortable sleep. The struggle between wakefulness and exhaustion was like a tug-of-war, and when she woke up, her whole body ached.

She opened her eyes and looked at the ceiling. After taking a couple of breaths, she felt a burning sensation in her breath. Her head was also dizzy and her body felt unusually heavy after getting up.

After washing up, Yao Yingxi felt increasingly dizzy. She rubbed the sink to calm herself down, then came out of the bathroom and collapsed onto the floor.

She was alone in the apartment. It took her a while to recover. She awkwardly pushed herself up from the floor, walked to the bed, and lay down again.

After dozing off for another two hours, Yao Yingxi woke up feeling unwell.

She reached up and touched her forehead, confirming that she had a fever.

After getting up and putting on a coat, Yao Yingxi went out to buy medicine.

After going through all that trouble, she took her medicine, but she still had no energy left.

…………

Anan dialed Yao Yingxi's number for the fifth time, but still no one answered.

"Boss, no one's answering the phone. Miss Yao..." Anan's normal guess was, "Could something have happened?"

After saying that, Xi Yuanchen glanced at Anan, his handsome face so dark it looked like he could devour Anan.

Anan immediately shut up, and Xi Yuanchen turned and strode out.

When Xi Yuanchen and Anan returned to the apartment, Yao Yingxi had already fainted from a high fever.

She lay in the bedding, her face flushed with an unusual redness, but otherwise remained completely still and silent.

"Yao Yingxi? Wake up, can you hear me?" Xi Yuanchen walked to the bedside, reached out and patted Yao Yingxi's face, but there was no response.

He immediately picked Yao Yingxi up from the bed and jogged out.

Anan was also startled and immediately ran to get the car.

"Yao Yingxi? Wake up!" After getting into the car, Xi Yuanchen supported Yao Yingxi's shoulders, tightening his grip on her arm.

Perhaps because he pinched her too hard, Yao Yingxi finally reacted, saying in an almost inaudible voice with her eyes closed, "It hurts."

"Where does it hurt?" Upon hearing this, Xi Yuanchen's expression hardened, and he quickly went to check on her.

Yao Yingxi was in a daze. She seemed to hear someone talking to her, and all the grievances she had been suppressing surged out. She felt like she was dreaming, in a dream where she didn't need to be strong or pretend.

"It hurts, it hurts so much."

"Xi Yuanchen, it hurts so much! Please don't do this to me!"

The emergency room was still overcrowded late at night. Xi Yuanchen called Su Che on the way, and when he arrived at the hospital, Su Che brought a nurse and a medical bed over.

Xi Yuanchen placed Yao Yingxi on the bed, and Su Che looked at Yao Yingxi's pupils before pushing her into the emergency room.

Xi Yuanchen followed, his face showing a panic he hadn't seen in a long time.

Su Che glanced at him, said nothing, and arranged for the nurses to take his blood pressure, test his blood sugar, and draw blood for tests, etc.

About twenty minutes later, the preliminary test results came out.

Su Che breathed a sigh of relief, walked out of the emergency room, and patted Xi Yuanchen on the shoulder: "It's okay, the fever has gone down, don't worry."

Xi Yuanchen stood there expressionless, showing no reaction after hearing Su Che's words.

Ten minutes later, Yao Yingxi was taken to a VIP ward.

Xi Yuanchen was smoking on the balcony of the small living room in the ward. After Su Che personally changed Yao Yingxi's medicine bottle, he walked onto the balcony and nudged Xi Yuanchen's shoulder: "Didn't you say you had nothing to do with this girl?"

"How long has it been, and you brought her to the hospital in the middle of the night?"

Xi Yuanchen frowned coldly, not answering Su Che's question. Su Che glanced at the cigarette between Xi Yuanchen's fingers and continued, "Also, this girl keeps saying she's in pain? What did you do to her?"

Xi Yuanchen turned his head to look at Su Ce, who gave him a nonchalant laugh: "What? Feeling guilty?"

"Su Che, aren't you too free?" Xi Yuanchen stubbed out his cigarette and turned to face Su Che. "Don't you have enough doctor-patients? Do you need me to arrange some for you?"

Despite being threatened by Xi Yuanchen, Su Che remained unfazed, lazily smiling as he replied, "Aren't there two right in front of me?"

Xi Yuanchen gave Su Che a warning look, then turned and walked into the ward.

Su Che shrugged. He was originally going to go in and make a few more jokes, but his phone rang in his bag. The emergency room called to say there was a patient, so he left immediately.

Xi Yuanchen walked to Yao Yingxi's bedside, looked down at her pale face, and heard her murmur, "It hurts."

The sun slowly peeked out from behind the clouds, and the first rays of sunlight appeared on the horizon.

Yao Yingxi opened her eyes and was met with an unfamiliar wall.

She frowned subconsciously, smelling disinfectant in her breath. She moved her hand, and the IV tubing next to her moved slightly.

Yao Yingxi realized that she was in the hospital.

Looking around, she was the only person in the ward. Who brought her to the hospital last night?

As Yao Yingxi was thinking, footsteps suddenly sounded in the ward, and a person in a caregiver's uniform appeared in her line of sight.

When the caregiver saw that she was awake, she quickly went to the bedside and asked, "Miss, you're awake? Is anything bothering you? Should I go call the doctor?"

Yao Yingxi looked at the caregiver and shook her head: "Who..."

“It’s Mr. Xi.” Yao Yingxi had only uttered one word when the caregiver explained to her, “Mr. Xi left at dawn. He asked me to take good care of you.”

Yao Yingxi nodded, glanced at the back of her hand, and said nothing more.

The caregiver was a very perceptive person. Seeing that Yao Yingxi was no longer speaking, he kept quiet and went outside to wring out a hot towel for her.

Yao Yingxi had been receiving intravenous fluids all night, and the nurse didn't remove the needle until after nine o'clock in the morning.

Pressing the cotton swab on her arm, Yao Yingxi asked the nurse, "When can I be discharged?"

"You want to be discharged?"

As soon as Yao Yingxi finished speaking, she heard an unfamiliar male voice coming from the doorway. Looking up, she saw that the man was wearing a white coat and had a rather frivolous smile on his face.

The nurse called out "Dr. Su" but left without answering her question.

Su Che walked up to Yao Yingxi, stared at her face, and said, "Hello, I am your attending physician, Su Che."

Yao Yingxi nodded, and was about to speak when Su Che continued, "He's also Xi Yuanchen's friend."

The words "hello" stuck in her throat. Yao Yingxi looked at Su Che, unsure of what to say.

Su Che looked at her, his gaze revealing a clear intent to study her. Yao Yingxi frowned and asked, "Dr. Su, when can I be discharged?"

"Anytime." Su Che noticed Yao Yingxi's mood and smiled. "However, Xi Yuanchen said before he left that you should stay in the hospital for a few more days until you are fully recovered before being discharged."

Yao Yingxi released the cotton swab pressing on the needle mark and said emotionlessly, "I understand, thank you. I want to rest now."

It was a clear order to leave, and Su Che understood it, but he didn't move.

Yao Yingxi's face darkened, and she asked in a cold voice, "Dr. Su?"

Su Che smiled and touched his chin: "Then you should rest well. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Although I'm very busy, it's because you and Xi Yuanchen have a special relationship."

Yao Yingxi's face turned completely cold. Su Ce turned around, and Yao Yingxi heard him mutter, "It doesn't look like it at all."
