Tomb Raiders: She Comes from the Ancient Martial Arts World
Chapter 18 The Legend of the Lord of Gutongjing
After some not-so-friendly but friendly negotiations, Mr. Ma and Wu Xie reached a cooperation agreement.
Mr. Ma only wants the gemstones; all the other treasures in the underground palace belong to Wuxie.
However, Wu Xie also suggested that the crew members not go down. Boss Ma only agreed that the girls wouldn't go down, but Director Wang and the other men still wanted to go down, probably because he planned to use them as scapegoats to go through the traps.
Afterwards, Wu Xie poured out her heart to Li Cu with tender concern, urging him to be careful in everything he did after going down tomorrow, and saying that she might not be able to protect him at all times tomorrow, and so on.
Ling Yue, who was watching from the sidelines, looked away, hugged his bamboo cane, crossed his arms, and silently complained to himself that the old man was still up to no good.
Li Cu was a proud and arrogant person. She was touched by Wu Xie's concern, but she still insisted, "I think I should be the one who is most careful. Besides, I have Ling Yue, so I'm not afraid!"
Wu Xie smiled noncommittally, looked at Li Cu, and after a long while said with a sigh and a word of advice: "Li Cu, you must remember, relying on yourself is worse than relying on anyone else."
After saying that, he left with Wang Meng.
Li Cu turned her head in dissatisfaction, wanting to complain to Ling Yue, but when faced with Ling Yue deliberately shaking the bamboo cane, Li Cu rubbed the bump on her forehead, silently swallowed what she wanted to say, and instead asked curiously, "Ling Yue, is this your weapon? It's just a section of bamboo?" As she spoke, she even wanted to touch it.
Ling Yue didn't stop him. He looked down at the dark green bamboo cane in his hand, a hint of reminiscence flashing in his eyes. "Yes, someone brought me home the day I arrived."
Ling Yue received training from a young age, and he had to be proficient in all eighteen weapons. Only when he could turn anything into a deadly weapon was he qualified.
Later, on the day the prince brought her home, he said she was like a green bamboo. When she came of age, he specially gave her this dark green bamboo cane, which he had commissioned to be specially made for her several years in advance on the day he brought her home.
The bamboo staff resembles bamboo but is not bamboo. It was forged by a master smelter of the time, who spent several years forging it with extraterrestrial meteorite iron.
It can be long or short, and its shape can be changed at will. It also contains hidden weapons, all of which can be combined with the changes in her internal energy.
After obtaining it, Ling Yue never parted with it, whether walking, sitting, or lying down.
Li Cu assumed it was a gift from her family and became even more curious about the bamboo cane: "Did you name it?"
A master's weapon always needs a cool name, right?
Ling Yue rarely smiled, but a genuine smile appeared on her lips. Her princess had once encouraged her to name the bamboo cane.
However, Ling Yue felt that no name was worthy of it, so he kept calling it Ink Bamboo: "Let's call it Ink Bamboo."
The prince admires the integrity of bamboo, and she is willing to be the bamboo by the prince and princess's side for the rest of her life.
Li Cu felt that the name wasn't sophisticated enough, but then she thought that Ling Yue himself was sophisticated enough, so the combination seemed to give off a sense of returning to a simple and authentic state of mind.
Then I understood.
"Hey Ling Yue, can I try it?" Watching Ling Yue twirl it around like a flower, he swiftly pried Su Nan away and then smashed a bump on his forehead.
Li Cu couldn't help but feel a strong urge to try it.
Ling Yue glanced at him sideways, a mischievous smile appearing in his eyes: "Alright, put your hands out."
Li Cu obediently stretched out her hands and flattened them.
Ling Yue placed the bamboo cane into his palms with one hand.
The next second, Li Cu exclaimed, "So heavy!" His hand had already slipped down involuntarily, and the bamboo cane fell to the ground.
Before landing, Ling Yue hooked her foot, and the bamboo staff flew back, which she caught.
Seeing her lift the bamboo cane so easily with one hand, Li Cu's eyes widened in disbelief: "Ling Yue, just how strong are you?! Such a heavy weapon, and you just did it like that!"
He twirled his right wrist, like he was doing a fancy hand gesture: "You just picked it up like it was nothing?"
The bamboo cane looks about as thick as a baby's arm, with the bamboo joints on both sides being slightly thicker.
But overall, it looks only slightly thicker than a short flute that is about 30 centimeters long.
How can it be so heavy!
The moment it landed on his palm, Li Cu thought a car had run into his hand!
Ling Yue's perverse sense of humor was satisfied, and he tucked the bamboo cane back behind his waist.
Looking around where no one was, he reminded Li Cu, "I've done what I promised you. What about what you promised me?"
In exchange for helping Li Cu distract Boss Ma and the others, Li Cu agreed to become Wu Xie's "spy."
Any news about Gutongjing or the Yuezhi should be sent to Ling Yue.
Upon hearing Ling Yue's words, Li Cu actually remembered that she had some news to pass on to her, and quickly said, "You know what, I actually heard some news related to Gutongjing when we were in Wuxie's tent just now!"
Ling Yue became serious.
Li Cu said, "It was Marila. Marila got drunk and fell asleep, talking nonsense. He recited a line, 'A spider hangs from the beam, and a magpie falls from the sky.' Wu Xie asked Wang Meng to give Marila a jar of wine, hoping to stop him from talking nonsense. But as soon as Marila smelled the wine, he became even more energetic, sat up, and started telling the story about the Lord of Gutongjing that his mother had told him when he was a child."
Legend has it that the lord of the ancient city of Tongjing had eight arms and eight legs, and could fly through the clouds like a spider. During the day, he would control the floods 800 miles away, and at night he would return to the city.
“But even children don’t believe such things. He also said that this city lord can absorb people’s souls and has a gem that allows him to go to heaven and earth and do anything!” Li Cu scoffed, not believing it at all.
Ling Yue's expression shifted slightly upon hearing this, clearly indicating that he believed it.
This made Li Cu's eyes widen, and he earnestly advised Ling Yue not to engage in feudal superstition: "These are all exaggerations, the deification of things that the ancients could not understand. But now science is so advanced, we humans have even been to the moon, and we have not seen any Chang'e or Jade Rabbit."
Ling Yue didn't understand science, and she used to scoff at the idea of ghosts and gods.
But with the Empress before him and himself now in another world, Ling Yue still held little reverence for ghosts and gods. However, he knew that there must be some mysterious creatures or forces lurking in the shadows of this world.
"There's always a reason behind rumors. Strip away the overly mythologized parts, and what's left is the truth," Ling Yue said dismissively, then asked Li Cu if there was any other information.
Li Cu felt that what Ling Yue said made a lot of sense, and scratched his head to think about it. "Oh, right, Wu Xie also said that this is not the real Gutongjing!"
Li Cu was truly unguarded when facing Ling Yue.
Not to mention being on guard, he was so eager to tell Ling Yue everything about the task Ling Yue gave him, including the color of Wu Xie's underwear.
Unfortunately, Ling Yue wasn't interested.
Alas?
its not right.
Fortunately, Ling Yue wasn't interested!
Li Cu gently slapped her head to stop her from overthinking.
Ling Yue nodded, not too surprised by this.
She then asked Li Cu, "Does Marila like to drink any kind of alcohol?"
Li Cu nodded: "Of course, Wu Xie used just a few jars of some old liquor to get Ma Rila, who was pretending to be dead, to come over."
When Li Cu wanted to watch the stars and moon with Ling Yue some more, chatting about everything from myths and legends to their respective hobbies, Ling Yue told him to go back to sleep early and quickly returned to his own tent.
Everyone's gone, what can he do? He should go back to sleep too!
