Junior Uncle is too cunning.

Chapter 364 First Entry into the Underworld

After a trip to the Lingxiao Palace, he finally sorted out the matters concerning the God of Wealth Sect. Returning to the Ministry of Finance Hall, Li Shundao looked at Fang Hui, who was still standing there drinking tea, and was somewhat speechless. "Why haven't you left yet! Do you think this is a teahouse? Get out of here! You're always so idle. Next time, I'll have a good chat with your master!"

"I'll leave immediately. I didn't say I wouldn't. I'm just waiting for your reply to see if you have any other plans. As for Master and your uncle, what do you think..."

Seeing Fang Hui's antics, Li Shundao chuckled inwardly, but secretly he enjoyed her closeness. He smirked and said, "Get lost!"

Upon hearing Li Shundao's words, Fang Hui felt reassured and said with a smile, "Alright, then I'll take my leave first, Uncle-Master." As she spoke, she quietly took the entire bag of unused Da Hong Pao robes from the table.

Seeing Fang Hui's actions, Li Shundao raised his hand and struck her. Fang Hui, seeing Li Shundao's action, immediately ran out of the main hall and quickly disappeared from the Heavenly Court.

Li Shundao smiled inwardly and ignored him. With the Jade Emperor's guarantee, the matter of the God of Wealth Cult was considered to be over. As for the dispute between the Three Pure Ones Taoism and Western Buddhism, Li Shundao planned not to get involved for the time being. Moreover, he had accepted the Jade Emperor's mission and still had to go to the underworld.

After giving a brief explanation to Lingyu Zhenren, Liulian Wangyue, and the others, Li Shundao headed towards the underworld.

Although there is still some time before Lady Pingxin's Christmas, and he doesn't need to rush at his current pace, there's nothing to do in the Heavenly Court. Besides, he's a bit awkward being caught between Wangyue and Liulian. He might as well go to the Underworld for a visit, since he's never been there before!

This is also a shortcoming of him and Chen Fusheng: their cultivation time is too short. They have already reached the Great Luo Golden Immortal realm, but so far they have not even finished exploring the Four Continents. They are probably only familiar with the Eastern Divine Continent.

As for the overseas continents, only Chen Fusheng went there once, and returned to Kunlun Mountain without even visiting them. This time, he plans to experience the underworld properly. To be honest, he has never seen the Yin Spirit system before!

In his previous life, Chen Fusheng was an atheist, but since he miraculously arrived in the prehistoric world, he has actually gained a new understanding of demons and monsters.

Chen Fusheng followed the path of immortality, learning Taoist immortal techniques. Taoism divides the primordial world into heaven (yang) and earth (yin); people into male (yang) and female (yin); time into day (yang) and night (yin); and the heavens into sun (yang) and moon (yin). This forms the current concept of the Three Realms, namely the Heavenly Court, the Human Realm, and the Underworld.

This is also one aspect of the immeasurable merit of the Goddess Pingxin. It should be known that whether it is the lofty Heavenly Court, the bustling human world, or the awe-inspiring Underworld, they are all indispensable and important parts of the prehistoric world. If any of them were missing, the prehistoric world would not be what it is today.

From the perspective of the underworld, the Three Realms are explained as follows: humans possess souls, and each person has three souls and seven spirits. A person is composed of soul and spirit; the soul, representing yang energy, and the spirit, representing yin form, combine to form a human being. After death, the spirit and vital energy return to heaven, while the physical body and spirit return to earth. The evolution of a person's past, present, and future lives is explained using these concepts, dividing the primordial world into three realms: the human realm on earth, the celestial court of gods in heaven, and the underworld of the spirits and spirits on earth.

When talking about the underworld, one cannot help but mention the Yellow Springs, the River of Oblivion, and the eighteen levels of hell.

The saying goes, "Walking the road to the underworld, stepping onto the Bridge of Helplessness; seeing the River of Oblivion again, gathering at the Terrace of Longing for Home. The Three Lives Stone is etched, a bowl of Meng Po soup; unable to be together in the past life, we are also destined to be apart in this life." In fact, life is a journey of cultivation. Living is difficult, but dying is even more difficult. This is why so many people do not want to die, or rather, dare not die.

Li Shundao had heard these myths and legends countless times in Chen Fusheng's memory, but now he was truly standing on the land of the underworld. Looking at the road in front of him, he pondered for a moment and muttered, "This must be the Road to the Underworld."

The Yellow Springs refers to the place where people reside after death, also known as the underworld. The Road to the Yellow Springs is the only way for the dead to reach the underworld. After death, underworld constables Ox-Head and Horse-Face come to capture the soul and take it to the underworld to be judged by Yama, the King of Hell. Therefore, the Road to the Yellow Springs is the path that guides ghosts.

Just like now, there are many wandering ghosts on the road to the underworld. They are the ghosts who died before their natural lifespan was over. Because they can neither ascend to heaven, nor be reincarnated, nor go to the underworld, they can only wander on the road to the underworld. In order to vent their resentment, they go crazy and bite and beat any new ghosts they see. Some ghosts are even beaten to pieces.

After passing the Road to the Underworld, you reach the River of Oblivion, which serves as the boundary between the Road to the Underworld and the netherworld. The River of Oblivion is blood-yellow, filled with wandering souls unable to reincarnate. It teems with insects and snakes, and its stench is overwhelming. Some ghosts, hoping to see their beloved in this life, will not drink the Meng Po soup, but must jump into the River of Oblivion. They must wait a thousand years before being reincarnated. During these thousand years, you might see your beloved in this life crossing the Bridge of Helplessness, but you cannot communicate; you can see them, but they cannot see you. During these thousand years, you will see them cross the Bridge of Helplessness again and again. Imagine the torment that would be!

Above the River of Oblivion lies the Bridge of Helplessness, across which the souls of the dead must cross. From the bridge come frail, elderly people, weeping and lamenting the unfilial piety of their children. There are middle-aged men who died for their country, their ambitions unfulfilled, their faces filled with sorrow. There are also haggard young girls of marriageable age, their hearts just beginning to stir with love, gazing longingly at their neighbor's sweetheart. And there are innocent, toddlers, sucking their fingers, curiously looking around. The virtuous are protected by gods and Buddhas and cross the Bridge of Helplessness smoothly, while the wicked are cast into the River of Blood to suffer.

The Bridge of Helplessness has three levels. The ghosts of virtuous people can safely cross the upper level, those who are both virtuous and wicked cross the middle level, and the ghosts of wicked people cross the lower level, where they are often thrown into the murky waves below, to be bitten by copper snakes and iron dogs. The Bridge of Helplessness marks the beginning of a new cycle of reincarnation. The Bridge of Helplessness: a lament for the separation of the past life, a lament for the meeting in this life, and a helpless reunion in the next.

Beside the road to the underworld is a river called the River of Oblivion. On the River of Oblivion is a bridge called the Bridge of Helplessness. At the head of the Bridge of Helplessness is an earthen platform called the Platform of Longing for Home. Beside the Platform of Longing for Home is a huge rock called the Stone of Three Lives. Beside the Stone of Three Lives is an old woman selling Meng Po soup.

Looking at these familiar yet unfamiliar scenes, Li Shundao felt as if he were in a dream. Looking at Meng Po standing not far away and the lines of dead souls, Li Shundao wondered if Meng Po's soup could really make people forget everything.

With Li Shundao's cultivation and insight, he was somewhat alarmed that he couldn't see through Meng Po's true nature at a glance. "Could this be an avatar of that person?"

The more I thought about it, the more likely it seemed. After all, Meng Po's position might seem insignificant, but she was a crucial hub in the Yin-Yang balance of the Three Realms. If Meng Po's soup hadn't erased people's memories, the Three Realms would have been in chaos. After all, who doesn't have friends, relatives, and enemies? If this continued life after life, with endless cycles of cause and effect and constant warfare, the Three Realms probably wouldn't have lasted much longer.

This is especially harmful to cultivators. They think, "If I can't become an immortal in this life, I can just cultivate again in the next." This not only lacks ambition but also wastes more spiritual energy and makes the underworld lose its meaning.

Suddenly, Li Shundao felt a gaze coming from Meng Po, who was standing next to the Three Lives Stone. He was startled at first, but he became even more certain that Meng Po was an incarnation of the Goddess Pingxin, otherwise she would not have noticed him at all.

Li Shundao revealed himself and first bowed to Meng Po. Regardless of whether she was truly an incarnation of the Goddess Pingxin, Meng Po's unwavering presence by the Three Lives Stone for countless eons, serving each deceased soul bowl after bowl of Meng Po soup, was enough for Li Shundao to bow to her. As for not stepping forward to meet her, it was simply because he was afraid of disturbing Meng Po's work.

Meng Po also noticed Li Shundao. Without saying much, she simply accepted Li Shundao's bow, nodded, and then focused her gaze back on the spirits before her. Li Shundao did not object and slowly withdrew from the vicinity.

Li Shundao thought about the Three Lives Stone next to Meng Po. He had heard that it recorded the past and present lives of everyone in the prehistoric world. He wondered if Chen Fusheng's was among them.
