Being pregnant out of wedlock was considered a strange thing by the people at that time. The tribespeople said that she was carrying a monster. Helpless, Hua Xu Shi left the tribe with her pregnancy and lived alone.

However, having a powerful backer makes all the difference. Nuwa, knowing about this, sent a Qilin to take care of Huaxu. Twelve years later, she gave birth to a son with the body of a snake and the head of a human, who was named Fuxi.

He went to the riverbank and saw a monster that was neither dragon nor horse, walking on the water as if it were solid ground. As Fuxi approached the water, the monster actually came to him and stood there obediently, motionless. Fuxi examined it closely and saw patterns on its back: one and six at the bottom, two and seven at the top, three and eight on the left, four and nine on the right, and five and ten in the center. Fuxi plucked a stalk of yarrow and copied the patterns from the dragon-horse's back onto a large leaf. As soon as he finished, the dragon-horse roared, leaped into the air, and disappeared in the blink of an eye. Everyone surrounded Fuxi and asked, "What kind of monster was that?" Fuxi said, "It looks like a dragon and a horse, so let's call it a dragon-horse."

Fuxi held the leaf, pondering its patterns, but couldn't unravel its mysteries. One day, as he sat contemplating by the White Turtle Pond, he suddenly heard a rushing sound. Looking closely, he saw a white turtle swim from the bottom of the pond to him, its eyes shining brightly. It nodded three times, then tucked its head into its belly and lay motionless by the water's edge. Fuxi observed the white turtle intently. Gradually, he noticed that the patterns on the turtle's shell consisted of five in the center, eight around the perimeter, twelve on the outermost ring, and twenty-four on the very outermost ring. Suddenly, everything became clear; he understood that the only law governing the changes in all things in the universe is Yin and Yang. At this point, he already had a rough, albeit vague, understanding of the Eight Trigrams.

Afterwards, Fuxi looked up at the clouds in the sky, the rain and snow, the thunder and lightning, and saw the strong winds and thick fog on the ground. He also observed the birds and beasts. Based on the principle of Yin and Yang changes in the world, he created the Eight Trigrams, which are eight simple but profound symbols to summarize all things in the world.

His earlier invention of creating nets by imitating spiders in nature for fishing and hunting, and his creation of a writing system to replace knotted ropes for record-keeping, were all related to the Eight Trigrams.

Afterwards, Fuxi established the marriage system for humankind, implementing a system of male-female pairing and using deer hides as betrothal gifts. Surnames were also derived from domesticated animals, plants, dwellings, or official titles to prevent incest and consanguineous marriage. This is how Chinese surnames originated and have continued to this day.

After Fuxi created the Eight Trigrams, his path to becoming the human emperor was considered complete. At that time, Shennong had already demonstrated outstanding talent, so after examining him, Fuxi abdicated the throne to Shennong.

Because of his significant contributions to the human race, Heaven bestowed upon him a vast amount of merit, and Fuxi was directly promoted from the Celestial Immortal realm to the Quasi-Saint realm, which can be considered as restoring him to his previous realm.

He had already devoted his heart to the human race and was no longer the demon king Fuxi, but only the emperor of the human race.
