Extra 2

When Shen Minming woke up, he found himself in an unfamiliar place.

The people here look different from anyone he's seen before.

He just slept in a big box, how did it turn out like this?

A tall, short-haired child came in carrying a bowl.

"you're awake?"

Shen Minming turned his gaze away from the window and nodded.

The child placed the bowl in front of Shen Minming; it contained very thin white porridge.

He didn't reach out, but quietly looked at the child.

"My name is Kairan. This is Country K. Did you come here illegally?"

I found you near the ferry terminal; I almost thought you were dead.

In just two sentences, Shen Minming understood his situation; it seemed he had unintentionally come abroad.

"I just wanted to find a place to sleep, and that's how I ended up here."

Kai Ran sighed. He thought it was just someone's child who had gotten lost, but it turned out he had just gotten himself into trouble.

"Can you contact your family?"

Shen Minming shook his head. He had never met any of his family members. From the time he could remember, he had always been alone.

Seeing Shen Minming's pitiful appearance, Kairan couldn't bear to abandon him.

So the two destitute people started supporting each other and living their lives together.

They live in a notorious slum in country K, and Kai Ran earns her a place to live by helping her landlord with housework.

As for meals, it depends on what leftovers the landlord has for him.

Or they might go to the streets to beg.

Now that Shen Minming has arrived, the two children's lives have become even more difficult.

Moreover, Shen Minming knew almost nothing about the language of Country K.

The initial days were extremely difficult; the two of them were almost always hungry.

They don't even know if they'll see the sun rise tomorrow.

The two lived like this for a year.

Life only gradually became easier after Shen Minming became more fluent in the language.

Every day when Shen Minming delivers newspapers, he always sees computer advertisements on the televisions on the street.

This was his first time using a computer.

Another client was an IT technician who would always hear the clattering of keyboards whenever newspapers were delivered to his house.

On one occasion, a customer asked him to help throw away a bunch of useless books.

Shen Minming saw that they were all computer-related books, so he took them all home.

He became more and more engrossed in watching, and didn't even realize it until Kai Ran returned.

Today was supposed to be Shen Minming's turn to cook, but he was so engrossed in watching that he completely forgot about it.

Kairan, who was already in a bad mood, became extremely angry.

"What are you doing? What's the point of reading these books? This is not something we can learn, you know?"

Use this time to think carefully about how to solve tomorrow's meal problem.

This was the first time Kai Ran had lost his temper with Shen Minming. The landlord's demands were becoming increasingly unreasonable, and he no longer wanted to rent the house to two people.

When she returned, she saw Shen Minming reading a pile of useless books, and her anger flared up immediately.

Shen Minming didn't say anything; it was indeed because he had forgotten to cook.

I put down the book and immediately went to the kitchen to cook.

Calling it cooking is just a euphemism; it's really just boiling a pot of porridge that's just enough to fill you up.

He doesn't know how to cook anything else, and there are no other ingredients for him to use.

When they have extra money, Kai Ran might buy some vegetables to supplement the nutrition of the two of them.

But we won't let him get involved, since vegetables are too precious.

After finishing his meal, Kairan calmed down considerably.

Shen Minming then took the book to Kairan and said, "I think we can go into the software business; it will definitely be more profitable than what we're doing now."

I just read the book; these things are very simple.

"Do you have a computer? Are you sure you can receive the orders?" Kai Ran couldn't help but pour cold water on the idea.

Shen Minming pursed his lips. Everything seemed too outrageous, but he wanted to give it a try.

"In my spare time besides delivering newspapers, I try to learn some skills, and I hope you can join me."

Kai Ran felt utterly exhausted, both physically and mentally, yet he was still unable to sip Shen Minming tea.

During the day, while delivering newspapers, Shen Minming would help his customers with odd jobs, and in return, the customers would teach him a little something.

He absorbed knowledge like a sponge.

I gradually gained an understanding of this mysterious field.

He started saving money; he needed to put his knowledge into practice.

So he worked even longer hours.

When he finally returned home excitedly with his first bucket of gold, he found Kairan lying on the street, seriously injured, with their belongings beside her.

"Kairan, Kairan, are you alright?" Shen Minming, forgetting her joy at making money, quickly picked up Kairan.

Kai Ran only opened his eyes for a moment before closing them again.

Looking at the landlord's figure in the distance, she recalled what Kairan had told her before.

He immediately understood.

He didn't pick up the things on the ground, nor did he pay any attention to the landlord.

He carried Kairan and rushed to the hospital; Kairan was all he had left.

The doctor noticed that the two women's clothes were filthy, and that they wouldn't have been able to get into the hospital if Shen Minming hadn't provided sufficient funds for their medical expenses.

When Kai Ran woke up, all he saw was a white ceiling.

She woke up suddenly, which aggravated her wounds.

It also woke up Shen Minming, who was lying by the bedside.

"You're awake? I'll go call the doctor." Shen Minming looked at Kairan happily.

But Kai Ran grabbed her hand: "Don't go, we have no money left."

Shen Minming placed his other hand on Kairan's hand: "Don't worry, I can earn money now, so you don't need to worry about medical expenses."

Under Kai Ran's astonished gaze, Shen Minming whispered in her ear about his recent income.

Kai Ran froze on the spot.

After the doctor's examination, it was determined that Kairan was only slightly malnourished.

Shen Minming breathed a heavy sigh of relief. Thank goodness.

After being discharged from the hospital, Shen Minming used the remaining money to rent a small house for the two of them.

It's so much better than where I lived before.

He took on assignments while simultaneously teaching Kairan programming skills.

Kai Ran is also quite perceptive and quickly became able to do some simple tasks on his own.

So Shen Minming scavenged for parts at the old market and assembled two computers.

Life has visibly improved.
