Akainu's ruthless and domineering style is not very likable. In addition, Sengoku, Garp, Chief of Staff Tsuru and others preferred Aokiji and believed that he was the most suitable candidate for the Navy. Therefore, Akainu faced great obstacles in his attempt to rise to power.

Ultimately, the Five Elders realized that the Navy, an organization under their command, was becoming somewhat disobedient. Therefore, they overruled objections and forcefully pushed Akainu to take the helm in order to break the overall structure of the Navy. This gave Akainu the opportunity to fight Aokiji one-on-one.

If the Five Elders hadn't intervened forcefully in the name of the World Government, Akainu's popularity within the Navy would have been far inferior to Aokiji's, let alone the opportunity to have a fair fight with him.

At Marineford, the new naval headquarters, Akainu put down the documents in his hand, took a light drag on his cigarette to relieve his fatigue.

He originally thought that after becoming the Fleet Admiral of the Navy, he could fight pirates at will, and it would be no problem to punch the Four Emperors' crews or kick the Seven Warlords of the Sea. He could do whatever he wanted, and no one would be able to control his thoughts anymore.

But when Akainu actually took the position of Fleet Admiral, he found that things were not as simple as he had expected. As a Marine Admiral, he was only responsible for carrying out orders and capturing the pirates that needed to be dealt with. But now all the problems of the entire Navy were on his shoulders, forcing him to consider all aspects of the overall situation.

For example, a powerful pirate has appeared in the East China Sea, causing significant losses to the navy; or the South China Sea navy is facing budget constraints this quarter; or a powerful pirate has attacked a naval garrison in a member state; or the navy needs to replace its uniforms and weapons...

After becoming Fleet Admiral, Akainu was exhausted by a series of events, the key being that he had to deal with these things every day, which made him lose his long-lost passion for battle.

“Brubrub…”

Upon hearing the Den Den Mushi ring, Akainu instinctively answered the phone and whispered, "Speak, what is it now?"

He receives dozens of such calls every day. These are important calls made after the Navy Staff has selected the commander. Otherwise, if the entire Navy were calling, he probably wouldn't have a spare moment.

"Akainu, what are you good for? Barrett has attacked Warhead Island. I'm ordering you to send people to resolve this immediately, or you can forget about being Fleet Admiral." As soon as the call connected, Satan Saint launched into a tirade of angry curses. Before Akainu could even reply, the call was abruptly cut off.

The instant the call ended, Akainu's hand holding the Den Den Mushi turned into molten lava, and the Den Den Mushi burned to ashes in less than a second.

The next second, scalding lava dripped onto the ground with a sizzling sound, and at the same time ignited the carpet on the ground.

"Damn it, I'm the Fleet Admiral, not some subordinate you can yell at!" Akainu roared angrily in the office, his voice audible even in nearby offices.

Soon after seeing the fire in the office, Akainu forcibly suppressed his anger and extinguished the flames.

"Have Chief of Staff Tsuru bring me the latest intelligence on Warhead Island." Having regained his composure, Akainu stood in his charred office and spoke to the Den Den Mushi in a somber tone.

A moment later, Chief of Staff Tsuru entered with a report: "Bullethead Island was attacked by Barrett five minutes ago. He used his awakened Devil Fruit ability to fuse into a giant hybrid, and is currently wreaking havoc on everything on the island. The naval science unit stationed on the island is completely unable to withstand his attack. As of now, over a dozen Pacifistas have been destroyed..."

"Chief of Staff, I don't want to know the specific losses. I want to ask how long Warhead Island can hold out?" Akainu waved his hand, interrupting Chief of Staff Tsuru's report.

"The navy's forces on the island alone can only hold out for about ten minutes before they are completely wiped out," Chief of Staff Tsuru said calmly.

"I don't quite understand what you're saying. What do you mean by relying solely on the Navy's strength? Are there other defensive forces on the island?" Akainu looked at Chief of Staff Tsuru with a puzzled expression.

"Fleet Admiral Akainu, that's the research institute of Vegapunk, the world's most brilliant scientist. Nobody knows what kind of trump cards he's hiding. Some of the research results there are only known to Saint Satan, one of the Five Elders. So I guess there should be other defense forces on the island," Chief of Staff Tsuru said.

Upon hearing Satan's name, Akainu's face darkened again. He then said in a deep voice, "Suppressing pirates is our Navy's responsibility, so don't put your hopes on others. Immediately notify Kizaru and have him rush to Warhead Island to provide support as quickly as possible. Also, have Momousagi and Chaton lead a group of Navy Headquarters officers to support Kizaru. Make sure he captures that bastard Barrett."

Upon hearing Akainu's order, Chief of Staff Tsuru, unaware of the problem, immediately issued a support order to Kizaru. Kizaru, upon receiving the order, was speechless; his hard-earned day off was now ruined again.

Meanwhile, on Bullet Island, Barrett's combined giant form had grown to a hundred meters in size. Below him, Sentomaru was covered in wounds and looked utterly disheveled. Scattered around him were the wreckage of the Pacifistas, sparking from their remains. These were the Pacifista defense forces commanded by Sentomaru, but now these expensive robots had been reduced to scrap metal.

Barrett's strength was too great, especially after transforming into a combined giant. His strength and attack range increased dramatically in all aspects. Sentomaru could barely dodge with the help of the Navy's Six Powers, but these Pacifistas, each costing 100 million Berries, were like flies being swatted one by one when Barrett's giant hand struck.

"Awesome, this is so awesome!" Barrett, his true form hidden inside the combined giant, watched himself wreak havoc on Warhead Island, feeling extremely pleased with himself, all the frustration of the past few days swept away.

With another slap, sending Sentomaru flying, Barrett spotted the laboratory building emerging from the ground in the distance. His eyes lit up, and he stomped towards the building.

Festa's orders to him were to wreak havoc on Warhead Island, the more thoroughly the better, ideally reducing the entire island to ruins.

Just as Barrett was about to stomp on the research building that was exposed beneath the ground, York said to Vegapunk in the research center below ground, "We can't sit idly by any longer. They're obviously coming for us right now. If we don't retaliate, we're doomed. I don't want to be trampled like an insect."
