Giant Fish Survival: I Can Hear the Giant Fish's Heart

Chapter 17 Creatures Wandering Underwater

In order to increase his strength through exercise, Zhou Wen did push-ups while waiting for the supply boxes.

Zhou Wen set a goal for himself: to do 100 push-ups today. He knew his body couldn't do too many at once, so he planned to do 20 first.

However, after only five repetitions, he heard a strange sound coming from his elbow, as if his elbow was bearing pressure that it shouldn't be under.

Finally, I used almost all my strength to barely manage ten not-so-perfect push-ups.

"How did my body become so weak?"

Zhou Wen was somewhat incredulous. Back in his school days, he could do forty or fifty push-ups in one go without any problem, but now even ten felt like he was going to die.

"Forget it, let's take it slow." Zhou Wen knew that strength training couldn't be rushed; as long as he persisted, he would naturally improve.

So Zhou Wen would do ten at a time, then rest for a while before continuing.

Splash~ Splash~.

The sound of surging seawater reached him, and Zhou Wen stopped exercising, standing on the wooden platform, waiting for the supply boxes to arrive.

Soon, the esophageal diaphragm opened, and a large amount of seawater rushed into the stomach wall space, and the water level gradually rose.

"Shh!"

Suddenly! Something darted across the water, splashing up a string of water droplets that scattered and left ripples.

Zhou Wen retreated into the wooden platform almost reflexively, then bent down, the sunlight overhead shining on the ripples on the water as he searched for any sign of life.

"Isn't this the stage for obtaining supply boxes? How come there are creatures appearing in the water?"

Zhou Wen's expression was extremely solemn. He originally thought that only during the Leviathan feeding phase would creatures be swept in by the seaweed, but now it seems that creatures will also enter during the supply box acquisition phase, which is not good news.

The headlamp's beam had a limited range, and Zhou Wen could only see the water surface within three meters in front of him. Even so, he could still see something passing through the water under the light at an extremely fast speed, disappearing in the blink of an eye.

"Crash! Crash!"

The aquatic creatures seemed very eager, constantly darting back and forth underwater, and their swimming was very powerful, creating waves five or six centimeters high on the surface of the water. Zhou Wen could also hear the sound of their tails slapping the seawater from time to time.

As the tide receded, the aquatic creatures grew increasingly anxious, seemingly struggling to escape the confined space.

"Clap! Clap!"

After a while, the seawater receded completely, and in the dark area that the headlamp could not reach, came the sound of fish splashing on the ground.

Only after hearing this sound did Zhou Wen dare to stand up, ready to see what kind of creature it was.

Zhou Wen dared to look boldly because the creature never intended to attack him; it simply moved back and forth in the water. Judging from the sound of the creature hitting the ground, it was the type of creature that could not survive without water.

He jumped off the wooden platform, followed the voice's guidance, and carefully shone his headlamp in the direction of the light. Then, Zhou Wen was blinded by a glare.

"Another bioluminescent creature?" Zhou Wen's first thought was that this creature, like the solar coccidia, could emit its own light.

But then I thought about it again and realized that wasn't right, because the creature hadn't glowed underwater, nor had it glowed in the dark area where the light couldn't reach.

Where did that light come from?

With his doubts still lingering, Zhou Wen placed his other hand in front of his forehead to block out the light, then squinted at the creature again.

Then I saw a meter-long strip of light bouncing on the ground, just like a fish that had been pulled out of the water and stranded on the shore.

"What exactly is this?"

Zhou Wen really couldn't figure out what this creature was. You could say it glowed, but you couldn't see it in the dark. You could say it didn't glow, but shining a light on it was too bright for your eyes.

Zhou Wen paused for a moment after thinking about this, and then tried to move his headlamp away from the direction of the light, so that it was no longer shining directly on the creature.

With the help of the dim light from his headlamp, Zhou Wen was finally able to make out the creature's appearance.

This is a large fish about one meter long and shaped like a shuttle. The reason it was so bright when we shone the light on it is because the fish's skin is extremely smooth and can completely reflect the light.

Upon learning that the unknown creature was a fish, Zhou Wen completely lowered his guard. A fish out of water posed no threat to him whatsoever.

However, Zhou Wen did not try to catch the fish. The fish was at least a meter long and had just left the water. It was very energetic and its tail was slapping the ground with a loud cracking sound, showing its considerable strength.

Upon seeing that powerful fish tail, Zhou Wen immediately pictured scenes from anime where characters are slapped by fish tails. He certainly didn't want to get slapped himself.

Fish can't jump around for long once they're out of the water. After a while, when the fish is exhausted, he catches it.

So Zhou Wen ignored the big fish and turned to look for the supply box.

[Ding! You have obtained 10 pieces of wood, 10 pieces of stone, and 10 pieces of sand.]

The first supply crate contained only materials. Zhou Wen picked up the crate and returned to the wooden platform. After placing the crate in the area where basic materials were stored, he continued doing push-ups.

About an hour later, the big fish finally ran out of strength and stopped jumping. Zhou Wen immediately jumped off the platform and went to where the big fish was.

The big fish's mouth kept opening and closing, but having left the water, it obviously couldn't get any oxygen and could only slowly die from lack of oxygen.

Zhou Wen effortlessly lifted the fish. It wasn't very heavy, probably around 20 or 30 pounds. Its skin was as smooth as a mirror—no, its skin was practically a mirror, reflecting Zhou Wen's handsome face very clearly.

"The creatures of this world are truly wondrous." Zhou Wen's reflection in the mirror casually opened a biological encyclopedia, wanting to see the specific information about this fish.

Mirror-skin barracuda

Body length: one meter

Weight: 10-15 kg

Food type: Plankton

Description: Its skin is as smooth as a mirror, and its shape is like a shuttle. It moves extremely fast in the water, like an arrow released from a bow. If you are accidentally hit, you will suffer bruises at best, and internal organs at worst. The flesh is firm and chewy, and the skin can be used to make diving suits.

"Wow! This fish is no pushover either."

After reading the introduction, Zhou Wen was glad that he had made a wooden platform early on, away from the water. Otherwise, these mirror-skinned barracudas would dart around underwater, and if he accidentally bumped into one, it would be very painful. If he hit his crotch, his life would be over.
