They carried Huang Lewei from the lakeside to the edge of the woods. By then it was getting late, so Su Yang and the other two divided the work and set up tents and lit a campfire.
Time passed slowly, and the three of them stayed with Huang Lewei from dusk until sunset. Just as the sun and moon were changing and the bright moon was hanging high in the night sky, a groan came, and Huang Lewei, who had been unconscious for a long time, finally woke up.
The three hurried over. Huang Lewei slowly opened his eyes, squinted, and looked around. He could see three figures in the dim firelight. In his daze, he was not sure whether he was dead or alive. He could only hear someone talking to him.
"You're awake? How are you feeling?"
"It seems that the mermaid's hydrotherapy technique is really useful, but I didn't expect that water element could also have a healing effect."
"That's really amazing..."
The three men's conversation echoed around Huang Lewei, making him increasingly dizzy. He shook his head and struggled to stand up, but the slightest movement aggravated his wounds, causing him to hiss in pain. Helpless, he had to lie down again.
However, this ordeal actually cleared his previously drowsy mind. He opened his eyes again, but this time he was no longer confused. He recognized the people in front of him and had some impression of them, but not a deep one. So he asked, "May I ask who you are?"
"Oh dear! It's only been a short time, and you don't recognize us anymore? We went to great lengths to save you!" Tang Wan was the first to express her indignation when he asked her this.
"Alright, Wan'er, he's been unconscious for a long time, so he probably doesn't remember much of what happened before. It's not his fault." Lin Anlan comforted him from the side, and then said to Huang Lewei, "We met by chance in the Lingluo Forest a couple of days ago and we saved you, but you were seriously injured at the time, so you probably don't remember. Today we found the Mermaid Clan here in Weizhou Lake and asked them to treat you temporarily."
"However, the mermaid said that it can only temporarily alleviate your injuries and restore your consciousness. As for your mobility and other injuries, you will need to find a wood element healer to treat you before you can fully recover."
After listening to Lin Anlan's explanation, Huang Lewei roughly understood. He adjusted himself slightly and tried to sit up again. With the help of the three, he finally managed to sit up against the tree with difficulty. He weakly cupped his hands in thanks and said, "Thank you three for saving my life. My name is Huang Lewei. I will definitely help you if you need me in the future!"
“Speaking of helping, I do…” Upon hearing this, Su Yang immediately wanted to ask him how he managed to use two elements simultaneously, but before he could finish speaking, Die’er’s words echoed in his mind: “Can’t you not be in such a hurry? Let’s not even talk about whether he can accurately describe what he’s just regained consciousness. What if you’re in such a rush that he becomes suspicious and doesn’t tell you the real method?”
"Hmm...that makes sense..." Su Yang scratched his head awkwardly, and had to force himself to say, "I think it's fate, hahaha..."
Lin Anlan, who was listening nearby, couldn't help but roll her eyes at Su Yang. As for how to treat people, after spending so much time together, she felt that she could trust Su Yang's sincerity. It was just that he was sometimes too clueless about romance and didn't know how to deal with strangers. So she changed the subject and said, "You've been unconscious for so long, you must be hungry. We just caught some fish in this lake, would you like to try some?"
It would have been better if he hadn't mentioned it, because as soon as food was mentioned, Huang Lewei's stomach reacted immediately, making a series of rumbling noises. Even if he wanted to refuse, it was impossible, so he simply let go: "Okay, I'm hungry too."
Tang Wan smiled, walked to the campfire, picked up two grilled fish, handed them to him, and reminded him, "Eat slowly, be careful not to burn yourself."
Huang Lewei, having taken the fish, didn't care about anything else. He immediately took a big bite and wolfed it down, making Tang Wan unconsciously want to eat some too.
After they had eaten and drunk their fill, Lin Anlan returned to the main topic: "Your performance in the academy's martial arts competition was outstanding. How did you end up in the Spiritfall Forest? And what about those Demon Kingdom soldiers and the Insulators?"
Hearing Lin Anlan ask this question, Huang Lewei couldn't help but sigh, but still said, "It's all just a coincidence, let's not talk about it."
Seeing that he was unwilling to talk about it, Lin Anlan wisely stopped asking. Tang Wan, on the other hand, was unhappy and kept pressing for details: "What coincidence? What happened? Tell me, is it something earth-shattering?"
A barrage of questions overwhelmed Huang Lewei, and he finally managed to stop Tang Wan's questioning by feigning a violent cough. However, after the conversation ended, the relationship between the two became somewhat awkward. Su Yang was determined to learn about Huang Lewei's dual-element manipulation techniques, while Tang Wan was eager to know his backstory. Lin Anlan, caught between her two companions and Huang Lewei, the patient, was incredibly worried and exhausted. Finally, she gave up and said:
“It’s late now, let’s get some rest. Huang Lewei has just regained consciousness and needs more rest to recover from his injuries. We’ve all had a long day, so let’s talk about it tomorrow morning.” After saying that, Lin Anlan went into the tent and ignored the three of them.
Seeing that Lin Anlan had left, Tang Wan lost interest in asking any more questions and followed her into the tent, leaving only Su Yang and Huang Lewei by the campfire. Seeing Su Yang still sitting beside him, and unsure what he wanted, Huang Lewei, fearing Su Yang might have more questions, simply closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep.
Su Yang sat to the side, his mind replaying what he had seen on the day of the academy's martial arts competition. However, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't figure out the reason behind it. He was about to ask Lin Anlan and Tang Wan when they were not around, but when he looked up, he found that Huang Lewei had already fallen asleep. He didn't want to disturb him. Even if Su Yang didn't know how to deal with people, he still had a sense of propriety.
After standing up and looking around, he suddenly felt unsafe. The camp was set up by the lake, and although it was next to a big tree, there was a deep forest behind it. Who knew if there would be any ferocious beasts or poisonous insects or snakes attacking in the middle of the night? Although he could rely on the detection radar to sense danger in time, Su Yang still picked up some stones and sticks around the area and made a semi-circle to give himself some comfort.
After doing all this, Su Yang found a spot by the campfire and slowly fell asleep. Meanwhile, at the bottom of Weizhou Lake, where stone houses stood, Abby, who had helped Su Yang during the day, was sleeping soundly, clutching the crystal stone tightly. Outside her room, two mermaids looked at her with kind and worried eyes; they were Abby's parents.
"Honey, you said our little Abby will be alright, right?"
"Don't worry, the priest said that the lake god will protect Abby. As long as Abby passes the lake god's test, she can live a safe and happy life."
Upon hearing this, Abby's mother turned to look at Abby again, tears welling up in her eyes: "My poor child, you're not like your brother..."
