He Hai'er and Feng Tianyou stood there awkwardly for a while before Feng Tianyou finally broke the silence by asking, "What are you doing here?"

"I'm just browsing around. It's rare for me to have some time to relax. What are you doing here?" He Hai'er asked playfully.

Feng Tianyou scratched his head, his eyes unconsciously glancing towards the distant liquor stall. He Hai'er saw this but didn't expose him. She simply said, "Since you don't seem to have anything to do, why don't you come with me for a walk?" Without another word, she pulled Feng Tianyou along, leaving him helplessly watching the liquor stall in the distance, stammering, "Hey, hey, what am I doing..."

"What's with all this and that? Just come shopping with me." It sounded very forceful, but He Hai'er couldn't help but smile slightly.

Forcibly dragged away, and seeing the growing crowd around the wine stall, Feng Tianyou knew he wouldn't be able to buy any wine today, so he simply gave up struggling and obediently followed He Hai'er forward.

Noticing that his resistance was gradually fading, He Hai'er finally let go of his arm with relief. She hummed a little tune and strolled around leisurely, picking up a hairpin to try it on, then going to another stall to pick up a headdress to look at, and occasionally asking Feng Tianyou for his opinion.

Feng Tianyou, a rough and uncultured man, couldn't appreciate anything at all. No matter what He Hai'er showed him, he would only say "good" and then smile somewhat foolishly. He Hai'er wasn't angry. She teased him and put the things down again before moving on to the next stall. Although it was only their third meeting, they got along as well as old friends.

After wandering around for a long time, He Hai'er also felt a little tired. The two sat down by a river in the city. The late spring breeze stirred up the slight heat in the air, carrying the bloody smell of the battlefield outside the city. The turbid river and the destroyed houses in front of them seemed to be a constant reminder that this was a battlefield.

He Hai'er's gaze, however, was fixed on the desolate scene; her attention was completely drawn to a nameless little flower on a treetop. Feng Tianyou, observing the ruins before him, was pulled back to the reality of defending his country. As he frowned, pondering the fate of the empire, a soft sigh came from beside him:

"These flowers are blooming recklessly, not caring whether they will be scattered tomorrow."

Upon hearing this, Feng Tianyou glanced at He Hai'er, then followed her gaze upwards. He saw a small pink flower blooming on a branch, with a bee collecting pollen in its heart. He replied, "It is its fate. It will bloom regardless of whether there is a war or not. And it will eventually wither, no matter if it is tomorrow or not."

"That being said, it's fortunate that there are still bees to keep it company. If even the bees abandoned it, that would be a truly miserable fate."

"Yes, but it's quite a sight to see bees always accompanying spring flowers."

"Tell me, why did they meet?" He Hai'er turned her head, stared into Feng Tianyou's eyes, and asked.

Whether it was because the world hadn't yet explained the biological principles of bees collecting nectar and pollinating, or because He Hai'er's overly intense gaze made him feel uneasy, Feng Tianyou's eyes met for only a few seconds before he looked away and replied, "Perhaps this is fate."

"So, you believe in fate?" He Hai'er asked with a smile.

"How can we not believe it? Otherwise, how can we explain the changes in the weather?" Feng Tianyou looked up at the sky for a moment, then slowly closed his eyes.

"Then tell me, how did we come to meet? Was it also fate?"

"I think so." Feng Tianyou still didn't open his eyes.

He Hai'er fell silent. Both of them tacitly remained silent, or perhaps Feng Tianyou didn't know what to say. The sudden mention of fate left him unsure how to respond or what to say about this ethereal concept.

A moment later, He Hai'er's voice reached his ears again: "You are a descendant of the Qingfeng Feng family, right?"

Like a thunderclap, He Hai'er's words exploded in Feng Tianyou's mind, traveling through every nerve in his body. He stood up uncontrollably, turning to look at He Hai'er. Her eyes were clear and resolute. The two looked at each other in silence, neither knowing what the other was thinking.

After a long while, patches of dark clouds drifted in from the distance, and the low pressure characteristic of late spring enveloped the two of them. Sensing the change in the weather, Feng Tianyou finally spoke up, "The weather's changing, it's going to rain. Let's hurry back." With that, he turned and left.

He Hai'er got up and silently followed behind Feng Tianyou, her gaze fixed on the man's back, making Feng Tianyou feel uneasy. However, he continued to walk forward. When the two entered a small alley, dark clouds were already overhead, and thunder roared in the clouds, echoing in the alley.

Whether the thunder gave He Hai'er courage or could mask her emotions, He Hai'er opened her mouth wide and shouted, causing Feng Tianyou to stop abruptly. An untimely spring rain fell from the sky; this spring rain, which was meant to nourish all things, felt bitterly cold at this moment.

"Let's go, it's raining." After saying this, Feng Tianyou ran ahead without looking back, leaving He Haier alone in the same spot.

Traveling swiftly, Feng Tianyou returned to the military camp in less than ten minutes. Inside the tent, the adventurers were gathered around a fire, eating meat and drinking wine, their laughter echoing through the air. Upon seeing Feng Tianyou's return, one of them quickly called out, "Tianyou's back! Come over here, we've saved some good wine for you."

But all he got in response was Feng Tianyou's silence. He silently walked to the bedside, took off his rain-soaked clothes and threw them aside, then lay down on the bed, surrounded by the sound of pattering rain and the laughter of his companions.

"Why did we meet? It would have been better if we had never met..."

On the other side, He Hai'er walked back to the tent in a daze. When the female adventurers who shared the tent with her saw her like this, they quickly drew the tent flap, lit a campfire, took off her soaking wet clothes, found her clean clothes to wear, and pulled her to sit by the fire, asking with concern, "Hai'er? What's wrong? Why do you look so disheveled?"

Looking at the campfire in front of her, He Hai'er recalled the man's back in the rain without turning his head. She believed that even if the thunder was loud at that moment, he must have heard her words, but why didn't he respond? Was she not even worth him turning around?

"What 'Green Maple Pact'? Grandma was lying all along..." Thinking this, He Hai'er ignored everyone's concern, got up and lay back on the bed, carefully groping for a long-dried maple leaf. Cracks had long since spread across the withered leaf, as if it would shatter instantly with the slightest force: "Green Maple Tree, if fate is truly like this, why did you help us make such a beautiful promise..."

Inside the other tent, Feng Tianyou held another withered maple leaf in his hand. Looking at the dry leaf before him, he murmured to himself:

"Given the circumstances, it's not a matter of fate. Let's wait and see..."
