Jiang Zao stood outside the door.

For a moment, I didn't know where to go.

After staring blankly for a while, I followed my memory and walked towards the bus station.

The two Lu sisters rushed to the supply and marketing cooperative to find Lu Yanxun, only to be told that he had already left.

Lu Yanting stomped her foot in frustration: "Oh dear, brother, we went the wrong way!"

"Huh? Then he'll probably run into Jiang Zao, right?" Lu Yanting said again.

"Let's go, let's go after my brother."

Lu Yanwei pulled her younger sister and chased after them down another road.

The two chased each other all the way.

They were almost at their own doorstep when they finally saw Lu Yanxun.

"elder brother!"

Lu Yanwei started shouting from afar.

Lu Yanxun stopped and turned around.

She saw her two younger sisters holding hands and running towards her.

"You haven't gone back yet?"

"Brother, did you see sister-in-law when you came back?" Lu Yanwei looked around, but only saw Lu Yanxun. "Didn't she come back with you?"

Lu Yanxun frowned slightly: "Isn't she at home?"

Lu Yanwei's heart sank when she heard her brother's answer.

"She's out!" Lu Yanting had a bad feeling too, and quickly said, "After you left, my sister and I didn't go back right away. We chatted for a while at the entrance of the alley over there."

Lu Yanting pointed into the distance and continued, "When we finished talking and were about to go back, we suddenly discovered that she was eavesdropping behind us. Then... she said she wanted to walk around by herself and didn't want us to accompany her, so my sister and I went to the supply and marketing cooperative to find you, and then..."

And then, of course, they couldn't find Lu Yanxun.

Lu Yan has been found, but Jiang Zao is nowhere to be found.

Seeing Lu Yanxun's increasingly grim expression, Lu Yanting felt guilty and couldn't continue.

"What did you say?" Lu Yanxun asked with a stern face.

Lu Yanwei bit her lip, feeling incredibly guilty: "We told your sister-in-law about your affair, and she must have heard it. She seems a little angry."

Which way did she go?

Lu Yanting's voice was very weak: "It's the road you took back from the supply and marketing cooperative."

"Well, she said she'd only be gone for a short while and would be back soon. Maybe she's already home."

Lu Yanting then raised another possibility.

Lu Yanxun said nothing and strode towards his home.

The two Lu sisters exchanged a glance and quickly followed.

The three returned home and searched the house thoroughly, but couldn't find Jiang Zao anywhere.

Su Xiufen was already preparing dinner.

Hearing the three siblings going in and out, seemingly very busy, he peeked out from the kitchen.

"What are you guys doing?"

Lu Yanxun came out of the room and asked, "Mom, is Jiang Zao back?"

"Isn't she sleeping in her room?" Su Xiufen asked, puzzled. "Your great-grandmother said she was tired and resting in her room, and told me not to disturb her."

"Mom, didn't you know my sister-in-law went out?" Lu Yanwei asked nervously.

Su Xiufen paused for a moment, then shook her head: "Where did she go?"

Lu Yanting replied, "She went out. She was just going for a walk, but now we don't know where she went."

After processing what the children had said, Su Xiufen asked a beat late, "Where is Xiaozao?"

Lu Yanxun only came to his senses when Su Xiufen said those words.

He turned and walked out: "I'll go look outside."

“I’ll go too.” Lu Yanwei followed closely behind. “Brother, let’s split up and search.”

"I'm going too!" Lu Yanting quickly followed.

Su Xiufen stopped cooking.

He casually wiped his hands with his apron and prepared to go out with them to find ginger and jujubes.

Great-grandmother happened to come out and saw Su Xiufen running out in a panic.

So I asked, "Xiao Fen, what are you rushing off to?"

"Grandma, I'm going out to pick some vegetables. Please sit down."

Su Xiufen didn't dare tell her great-grandmother that Jiang Zao was missing, so she made up a lie and ran out.

Great-grandmother walked to the door with her cane, only to see that Su Xiufen had not gone into the yard to pick vegetables, but had gone outside.

He looked flustered, as if he had lost money.

"Where is Xiao Fen busy picking vegetables?"

Great-grandmother came into the yard and saw that her yard was full of vegetables. "With so many vegetables at home, why are you picking from other people's yards?"

"Grandma Lu."

Sensing that something was wrong with the Lu family, Aunt Zhang wandered into the Lu family's courtyard again.

Great-grandmother gets a headache whenever she sees her.

Pretending to be hard of hearing and not hearing, he turned around and was about to walk into the house.

Aunt Zhang caught up with him in a few steps: "Grandma Lu, I just saw Yan Xun and his two younger sisters rush out. Even Xiu Fen went out. I greeted her but she ignored me. Is something urgent?"

"What's the urgent matter?" Great-Grandma turned around after hearing this and looked at Aunt Zhang with a puzzled expression.

Aunt Zhang said very enthusiastically, "Grandma Lu, our two families have been neighbors for so many years. If there is any emergency that requires your help, please don't hesitate to ask."

Aunt Zhang didn't really want to talk to this eccentric old lady.

But when she thought about how her daughter might marry into the Lu family and become a wife, and how her daughter Guihua would have to call her Great-Grandma after they became in-laws, she was still in a difficult situation.

No matter how much resentment Aunt Zhang had towards her great-grandmother, she could only swallow her anger.

"My family doesn't have anything urgent that requires your help." Great-Grandma glanced at Aunt Zhang and said irritably, "Don't go around asking about other people's business all the time."

In the past, Aunt Zhang might have rolled her eyes and turned away.

But for the sake of Guihua, she swallowed her anger.

Aunt Zhang smiled and said, "It's good that you're alright. Just don't forget to let us know if anything happens."

Great-Grandma snorted dismissively, "Don't say you don't have any help; even if you did, you wouldn't need to help!"

Aunt Zhang curled her lip, thinking to herself: You ungrateful old woman, do you think I want to help your family? If it weren't for the sake of Guihua's future life in her husband's family, I wouldn't be so humble to a strange old woman like you!

Unfortunately, she only dared to say these words in her heart.

Finally, Aunt Zhang gritted her teeth and stormed off in a huff.

Before Aunt Zhang could even leave the Lu family's courtyard, Su Xiufen rushed back in a hurry.

Now Aunt Zhang has finally found someone she can talk to.

She immediately stopped Su Xiufen: "Xiufen, what are you rushing to do? You look so anxious, are you busy with something? Do you need any help?"

Su Xiufen looked terrible; even her great-grandmother could tell that she seemed to have encountered something extremely serious.

He went to meet her, leaning on his cane: "Xiao Fen, what's wrong?"

"It's alright, Grandma, you go back inside. I'll go call my husband."

Su Xiufen still ignored Aunt Zhang.

He gave his great-grandmother a perfunctory reply and hurriedly went inside to make a phone call.

"This must be an urgent matter!"

Aunt Zhang followed Su Xiufen into the house uninvited.

Great-grandmother didn't like Aunt Zhang, but seeing how anxious Su Xiufen was, she was also a little flustered.

There was no time to chase Aunt Zhang away, so he hurried to ask Su Xiufen what had happened.

Su Xiufen quickly got through on the phone.

He said into the phone, "Dad, Xiaozao is missing! Come back right away!"

Because she was anxious, her voice was already trembling with tears.

"What?" Great-Grandma and Aunt Zhang exclaimed in unison.

Aunt Zhang's eyes widened in shock: "Xiufen, what did you just say? The ginger and jujubes are gone?"

Great-grandmother's heart skipped a beat, and she almost lost her balance.

He had to hold onto the crutch tightly to barely keep his balance.

Her voice trembled as she asked incredulously, "Xiaofen, what did you say?"

Su Xiufen said a few more words on the phone, then hung up and turned to answer her great-grandmother:

"Grandma, don't worry, Yan Xun and his siblings have already gone to look for them. I just called his father, and he'll be back soon."

Su Xiufen helped her great-grandmother to sit down on the sofa and comforted her, "You sit here and wait, they should be back soon."

"Where did Xiaozao go?" Great-Grandma exclaimed angrily. "Wasn't she sleeping in her room just now? How could she suddenly disappear?"

Su Xiufen calmed herself down. "She went out for a walk by herself later. We didn't know. We thought she was still asleep in the house. It's not that she's missing, she might just have gotten lost. They've already gone to look for her, Grandma, don't worry."

Aunt Zhang quickly comforted them, "Yes, yes, she must be lost. Our compound is so big, and she hasn't been here long. It's normal for her to get lost since she's not familiar with the area. Don't worry, it's very safe here. As long as she doesn't leave the compound, we'll find her soon."

After Aunt Zhang finished speaking, she realized that no one was paying attention to her.

He awkwardly said he had to go home and cook, and then left.

The grandfather and grandson of the Lu family were filled with gloom.

Aunt Zhang, however, brought Zhang Guihua good news with a beaming smile.

After hearing the news her mother brought back, Zhang Guihua's swollen eyes shone brightly.

"Mom, are you telling the truth?"

Aunt Zhang smiled and said, "Xiufen said it herself, so how could it be false? She didn't say what the reason was, but judging from Xiufen's expression, plus the fact that Yanxun was beaten this afternoon, I guess it's probably because the young couple had a big fight."

Zhang Guihua pursed her lips and hummed softly, "This Jiang Zao is really pretentious, even pretending to run away from home."

"Does she think this will make Yanxun like her more? Yanxun has never liked girls who are scheming and manipulative since he was a child, but Jiang Zao is exactly that kind of girl."

A smile finally appeared on Zhang Guihua's face. "I grew up with Brother Yanxun, so I know him better than anyone else."

“Mom, I have a feeling.” Zhang Guihua’s swollen eyes regained some light. “I feel like I will be with Yan Xun.”

After Zhang Guihua said that, Aunt Zhang also felt that her daughter's chances were much better.

"No man likes a woman who's always causing trouble," Aunt Zhang commented sharply. "If Jiang Zao keeps acting like this, Yan Xun won't keep her around for long."

Zhang Guihua smiled without showing her teeth, and nodded with her lips pursed.

Lu Yanxun and his two younger sisters split up to search the compound.

They searched for more than half an hour, looking through almost every alley and every road.

The three met several times during their search.

But they still couldn't find Jiangzao.

When the three of them finally met again, they were all too exhausted to continue.

"How could she not have? She's so heavily pregnant, where could she have gone?!"

Lu Yanting was exhausted from running. She was so tired that she put her hands on her knees, bent over, and complained.

"I should have gone with her!" Lu Yanting sighed and complained. "But she's not a child, she shouldn't get lost, right? Is she deliberately hiding so we can't find her?"

"My God, she's a twenty-year-old adult, how can she be so immature? Doesn't she know that her willfulness will hurt the child!"

Lu Yanwei glanced at Lu Yanxun, who was cold and silent, and quietly tugged at her sister's sleeve. "Stop complaining and keep looking. There must still be places we haven't searched. Let's think about where she might have gone."

"We've searched everywhere we could think of, but we can't find it!" Lu Yanting complained angrily. "I don't want to complain, but look at what she did! She said she'd be careful before she left, but she was just lying to us!"

Lu Yanting gritted her teeth in anger, and at this moment she hated Jiang Zao even more: "I'm starting to suspect that she ran away with the child!"

Lu Yanwei was hot and tired, and also extremely irritable.

I really don't want to hear my little sister say those discouraging things anymore.

He was practically ready to cover Lu Yanting's mouth: "No way, don't talk nonsense, where could she have run off to!"

Lu Yanting snorted defiantly, "How am I talking nonsense again? Then tell me, where can't she run away? If she can't run away, why can't we find her anywhere? Maybe she's already run back to her parents' house!"

Lu Yanwei was completely annoyed and retorted loudly, "Impossible!"

But as soon as she finished speaking, Lu Yanxun turned and left.

"Brother?" Lu Yanwei called out.

Lu Yanxun didn't even turn his head: "Go back, don't look here anymore."

"Where are you going?" Lu Yanting asked loudly.

"I'm going to find her." Lu Yanxun's cool voice came through, tinged with a hint of anxiety.

"What should we do then? Go home or go with my brother to look for him?" Lu Yanting's mouth was dry. "Sis, how about we go home and get some water before we come out to look for him? I'm dying of thirst."

"Go home and drink it yourself."

Lu Yanwei left those words and walked towards Lu Yanxun's direction.

Lu Yanting hesitated for a moment between going home to get some water and going with her older brother and sister.

In the end, I decided to go with my older brother and sister to find them.

"Sis, wait for me!"

This time, Lu Yanxun didn't go anywhere else to look, but went straight to the gate of the compound.

His two sisters followed him from a distance, watching what he said to the guard.

Then I saw the guard point in a direction towards the gate.

Lu Yanxun started running in the direction the guard was pointing.

Lu Yanting grabbed her sister's arm in disbelief, her voice trembling with surprise:

"No way, Jiang Zao really ran away with the child???"

Actually, she didn't mean what she said; she was just talking nonsense because she was exhausted.

But Lu Yanting didn't expect that she was right...

Jiang Zao ran away with the child!

Lu Yanting swallowed hard and muttered to herself, "It's been so long, they should have gotten on the bus by now... Even if I went there, I wouldn't be able to find them."

“It’s all our fault.” Lu Yanwei cried sadly. “If we hadn’t said those things, she wouldn’t have left.”

“We must have broken my sister-in-law’s heart,” Lu Yanwei said, crying and blaming herself.

Lu Yanting couldn't help but feel sad, but she felt it wasn't entirely their fault.

The real culprit is her brother.

Lu Yanting frowned and said, "Sister, it's all Brother's fault for having an affair. We have to tell Mom and Dad about this and have Dad whip him severely!"
