Chapter 28 Breaking Through the Mountain Stronghold

At the gates of the bandit stronghold, numerous bandits and Qin soldiers engaged in fierce fighting.

Because of the narrow entrance, the Qin soldiers faced a larger number of bandits than they could handle.

However, as a regular army, the soldiers cooperated with each other and formed three teams, so there was no sign of defeat.

Li Da led dozens of soldiers into the battlefield. He wielded his long sword with all his might, killing off the bandits blocking his way and quickly advancing to the gate of the mountain stronghold.

The surrounding soldiers quickly formed a protective circle to prevent the bandits from approaching the gate of the village.

Li Da forcefully plunged his longsword into the ground, pressed his shoulder against the gate, and rammed it with all his might!

"boom!"

Li Da was extremely strong, and the gate of the stockade swayed slightly under his impact.

Li Da took a deep breath and took a few steps back.

Immediately, he assumed a charging stance, roared, and slammed his shoulder violently into the door.

"boom!"

A loud crash was heard, and the gate collapsed.

Li Da was panting heavily, veins bulging on his forehead, and his hands were trembling slightly.

Li Da's impact directly caused the structural connection of the gate to break, resulting in the gate collapsing with a roar.

"Charge with me!"

Li Da pulled the long sword stuck in the ground, let out a roar, and led the soldiers behind him into the village.

Lu Yao, who was watching from a distance, nodded in approval; the stronghold had been breached.

Having lost their terrain advantage, the bandits of the mountain stronghold were clearly no match for the Qin army and were routed, scattered and fleeing in all directions.

"Damn it! Brothers, follow me!"

When the bald-headed chieftain saw that the gate had been breached, he quickly called his brothers to go and stop the Qin army.

A group of people rushed towards the gate of the stronghold, but the bald chieftain's speed slowed down and he gradually fell behind the others.

Then, seizing the opportunity, they made their escape.

"I'm sorry, brothers, I will avenge you."

The bald-headed chieftain secretly rejoiced and quickened his pace considerably.

The deceived bandits were shocked and furious to discover that their chieftain had fled, but they were already engaged in battle with the Qin army and had no way to escape.

Soldiers poured in from the breached gates, and most of the bandits, seeing no chance of escape, threw down their weapons and knelt to surrender.

Surrendering might save you from death, but not surrendering will definitely kill you.

Lu Yao quickly brought the stronghold under his control.

"Reporting to the military officer, Li Da has fortunately fulfilled his mission."

Covered in blood, Li Da knelt before Lu Yao and reported back.

"Commander Li is the bravest in the entire battalion and deserves the greatest credit!"

Lu Yao looked at Li Da with admiration and gestured for him to stand up.

"Thank you, Lieutenant, for hitting me!"

Li Da was overjoyed and quickly stood up to reply.

"Reporting to the comrade, as you predicted, we and our brothers have indeed caught a big fish."

A centurion led his men to Lu Yao's side and threw down a bound bald man, who was none other than the bandit chief.

Lu Yao had already ordered a team to ambush and intercept those who were trying to escape along the back mountain path.

"My lord, spare my life! I offer all my treasures to you, please spare my life!"

The bald-headed chieftain, who had been thrown to the ground, saw Lu Yao and immediately shouted.

He understood that his survival depended entirely on Lu Yao.

“Gag him and lock him up properly.”

Lu Yao rolled his eyes and waved his hand, ordering the soldiers to take the person away.

You don't need to offer it; it's already Lu Yao's property.

"Reporting to the military officer, we have discovered a group of women and children in the mountain stronghold, and we do not know what to do with them."

A soldier approached Lu Yao and reported in a low voice.

“Send a team to take them to the nearby county town and tell them that they were captured by bandits and brought up the mountain, and tell them to settle them properly.”

Lu Yao thought for a moment and then gave instructions to his subordinates.

He could consider these people as part of the bandits, but whether he did or not was entirely up to him.

"Sir! Something's happened!"

A centurion in charge of sweeping up the mountain stronghold brought a box of letters and handed it to Lu Yao.

Lu Yao took it out and his eyes lit up.

These letters were written by remnants of the Korean regime to the chieftain, mostly containing words of enticement and promises of great benefits.

"Good, this mountain stronghold is actually a rebellion base of the remnants of the Korean rebellion! These bandits actually dare to collude with the rebel forces!"

Holding the letter, Lu Yao rebuked him righteously.

The soldiers around him were somewhat bewildered upon hearing Lu Yao's words.

"Yes! I never expected these bandits to collude with the remnants of the Korean regime, plotting a rebellion!"

It was Xiao Zheng, the chief logistics officer, who reacted quickly and loudly echoed his sentiment.

Lu Yao gave Xiao Zheng a rather sensible look.

The stronghold was quickly wiped out, and a great deal of gold and silver treasures were looted, most of which belonged to the stronghold chief.

"Give half of this treasure to the brothers, double the amount for the fallen soldiers, and personally deliver it to their families."

Lu Yao gave instructions to Xiao Zheng beside him.

Lu Yao knew very well that if he wanted his soldiers to follow him wholeheartedly, he had to use both kindness and severity, and bring them tangible benefits.

After the cleanup was completed, Lu Yao led his soldiers back to the camp to rest and recuperate.

The temporary campsite was bathed in the twinkling stars of the night.

In Lu Yao's military tent, the candlelight was bright as he wrote the battle report.

The text focuses on the collusion between the bandit group and the remnants of Korean forces, and the author plans to send the letter and the bald bandit leader to Xianyang.

After resting for two days, Lu Yao led his troops to the locations of other bandits to continue his mission of suppressing them.

Just as Lu Yao was leading his troops through a village, he stopped and ordered his troops to rest on the spot. He then led several dozen cavalrymen to a village.

This was the village where Lu Yao had just transmigrated. He remembered the grudge from when he was ambushed by bandits bribed by Doctor Xiao, who wanted to steal his medicine.

"Sir, is there anything this old man can do to help?"

Old Yang saw a group of Qin soldiers stopped at the village entrance and nervously went forward to inquire.

"Does the old man still recognize me?"

Lu Yao dismounted, removed his helmet, and asked with a smile.

Old Yang was taken aback. He looked Lu Yao over carefully for a few moments before he suddenly realized what was going on.

"So it's Young Master Lu."

Old Yang breathed a sigh of relief and said happily.

"Old man, I have a question for you. I wonder if the village doctor Xiao is still alive?"

Lu Yao asked with a smile, a hint of coldness in his eyes.

Old Yang was taken aback, wondering why Lu Yao was asking Doctor Xiao, but he still answered Lu Yao's question honestly.

"Doctor Xiao is in the village. May I ask what brings you here, Young Master Lu?"

Old Yang asked in confusion.

Hearing that the people were in the village, Lu Yao gave a wink to the two soldiers beside him.

Soon, two soldiers rushed into Dr. Xiao's house and dragged him out.

"Why are you arresting me? I haven't broken the law! Let me go!"

Although Dr. Xiao was afraid, he still shouted that he was innocent and struggled a little.

"Dr. Xiao, it's been a long time. I wonder if you still remember me, Lu?"

Lu Yao approached Doctor Xiao and looked at him coldly.
