Orc Undead Sports Warrior

Chapter 3 The Orcs' First Track and Field Competition

After greeting Coach Jiang, Lu Wei went to the locker room to change into his competition attire, preparing to warm up on the field. Since his transmigration, he hadn't shown much interest in track and field; he was only participating to avoid arousing suspicion.

In his previous life, he was a battle-hardened orc warrior. Years of war had instilled in him a cautious and prudent nature. Especially after arriving in the new world, he was even more reluctant to make any unusual moves that might arouse suspicion from others.

Another reason he was willing to participate in the competition was that he wanted to see what level of physical fitness other people in this world possessed. After all, within his tribe, he was the orc with the strongest running ability. In his mind, running a lap around a track was simply a trick of the little orcs.

When he walked out of the locker room, his strong physique immediately drew gasps from the audience around him.

"Wow, look at this guy, he's so strong! Is he a bodybuilding coach?"

"How can there be a bodybuilding coach on the track and field? How silly! He must be an athlete who participates in throwing events, but he really has a great physique!"

Lu Wei seemed dismissive of the astonishment of the audience around him: "These people are making a fuss over nothing. I have to say, the human body is really too weak. This guy's physique is far worse than mine used to be. Fortunately, he's relatively young, so there's still room for improvement in the future."

After transmigrating, Lu Wei's body underwent obvious changes. The short-sleeved shirt that used to fit him loosely was now stretched taut, and his shoulders had broadened considerably. At first glance, he looked more like a bodybuilder.

"Your Lu Wei's strength training seems to be at a very high level. Such a physique is rare among Asian athletes. Coupled with the fierce look in his eyes, he has a lot of presence. I just don't know how well he performs." After seeing Lu Wei, Coach Jiang couldn't help but praise him a few times in front of Wang Qiao. Lu Wei had left a deep impression on Coach Jiang.

"This kid's energy and spirit are undeniable, and he's been training quite diligently lately, but I'm afraid his results will fall short of Coach Jiang's expectations."

Wang Qiao outwardly feigned composure, but inwardly she was no different from the other spectators in shock. She had only been away on a two-week business trip, inspecting other provincial sports meets, and Lu Wei had already gained a size and a half. It seemed the kid was finally showing signs of reforming, but unfortunately, he was already 19, and it was unlikely he would achieve much in this sport.

"Don't try that with me yet. Let's watch the game first. You coaches like to keep things hidden during normal times and then push out a promising talent in a big competition. I don't believe what you're saying this time."

Wang Qiao inwardly groaned. He hadn't been hiding anything; Lu Wei's best 400-meter time was only 47.5 seconds, just exceeding the national standard of 47.6 seconds for a master athlete. This time was considered a professional athlete's performance in Ningcheng, but it was simply unacceptable on a national scale.

全国参加田径比赛的400米运动员也没有几个能在国际比赛有竞争力,要不然广东名将徐自宙2001年在大阪举行的东亚运动会上创造的45秒25的成绩怎么会成绩6年都没有人能够接近。

Since Xu Zizhou's retirement in 2005, there hasn't been a single athlete who can compete in the men's 400 meters. In comparison, Lu Wei's current performance wouldn't even get him past the first round in the domestic track and field championships, let alone in international competitions.

However, Wang Qiao still hoped that Lu Wei could perform well. His appearance had aroused Coach Jiang's great interest. In any case, since Coach Jiang had taken notice, his performance could not be too bad, otherwise he would lose face.

On the other side of the arena, Lu Wei had already begun warming up. Following his habit from his previous life, before a major battle, he would always swing his battle axe vigorously, then try a few charging and slashing movements to warm up his body, before standing at the forefront of the battle formation to prepare for the fight.

He had just considered using the steel pipe by the wall as a substitute for the tomahawk to practice a set of moves on the field. However, he knew that if he actually used that warm-up method, he might be treated like a lunatic.

"Then let's use human warm-up methods, since I'm just a lowly human being now..."

However, he mastered simple stretching exercises with great skill, and his short-distance sprint practice was as impressive as a soldier charging into battle.

"Wow! Coach Wang, where did you find this rascal? He's so fierce! I'm going to have Tang Yang learn a thing or two from him later, haha!"

The speaker was Sun Jun, a coach from the municipal sports school. After saying that, he laughed so hard he almost fell over, making exaggerated gestures.

"Oh, Coach Jiang is here too! With Coach Jiang here, I was wondering how you managed to stay so calm and collected. Coach Jiang, I'm going to watch the athletes' matches now, we'll talk later!"

This Sun Jun was a petty hoodlum athlete with mediocre results. He got a track and field coach position at the city sports school thanks to his family connections. His athletes, Tang Yang and Yang Wei, were grouped together in the preliminaries, and before the competition even started, he came over to show off.

The 100m and 800m races are progressing quickly, and the 400m preliminaries are about to begin.

The preliminary rounds were divided into four groups, with the top eight athletes advancing to the finals. Ningcheng's track and field level is not strong to begin with, and the 400-meter race is a particularly weak event. To avoid a situation where top-performing athletes are grouped together, resulting in lower-performing athletes advancing to the finals, the organizing committee decided to use performance to determine the finalists.

As a result, no one dared to hold back in the preliminaries, because it was impossible to predict how well the other teams would perform.

Lu Wei was placed in Group 4, while Group 1 included Hu Yuan, the number 1 runner in the Ningcheng 400m. From the start, Lu Wei immediately displayed his strong performance, constantly overtaking his opponents in higher lanes. Entering the straightaway, he pulled nearly 10 meters ahead of the second-place runner. Near the finish line, he deliberately slowed down, a smug smile on his face.

In Ningcheng, Hu Yuan from the district sports institute still has a significant advantage, with a preliminary time of 46.5 seconds.

After the start of the second group of competition, Wu Bin, who also came from the district sports institute, also had a strong momentum. He won the first place in the group with a clear advantage, and his time was around 46.5 seconds.

The third group had no outstanding athletes; the group's first-place finisher didn't even reach 47 seconds. This group of complete slackers caused Lu Wei, who had previously shown interest, to turn away in disdain. He gave a cold laugh; in his eyes, it was a complete joke.

The fourth group of races was about to begin, and Lu Wei slowly walked towards the track. He thought to himself with a self-deprecating smile, "Broximately, you've finally met your match. You've ushered in a new era for the orcs. Today, you're the first orc to participate in track and field..."

With a wry smile, Lu Wei gritted his teeth and said, "I should have left long ago. It's such a disgrace to be stuck here running laps with humans. Where does that leave the orcs' pride? It's humiliating!"
