The War of Resistance Against Japan: Special Operations Battalion Traverses Shanghai and Slaughters
Chapter 4 Sinking the Dragon Soar
Xu Peng then used sign language to give orders to the surrounding assault team members.
The sign language means: I'll go down first, you follow me. We'll advance towards the stern, and if we spot any Japanese soldiers, we'll take them out immediately. Then we'll quickly take control of the submarine.
After giving the order, Xu Peng, holding a silenced pistol in one hand and gripping the ladder with the other, slowly descended into the submarine.
But just as Xu Peng reached the halfway point down the escalator, he suddenly discovered four narrow beds in front of and behind him.
These beds were placed on top of the torpedoes, and four Japanese soldiers were lying on the beds, fast asleep.
Fortunately, he didn't wake the four Japanese soldiers. Xu Peng immediately looked up and gestured upwards.
The three commandos, understanding the unspoken message, immediately dismounted and, together with Xu Peng, drew their paratrooper knives and quietly crept up to the four Japanese soldiers.
Then, in perfect unison, the four men covered the mouths of the four Japanese soldiers and slit their throats with their paratrooper knives.
Four streams of blood spurted out, splashing onto the top of the submarine before slowly flowing down the inner wall.
The four Japanese soldiers grunted in response, then quickly straightened their legs and died instantly.
Xu Peng then waved to signal everyone to put away their paratrooper knives, raise their silenced pistols, and continue searching towards the stern of the boat.
Other commandos also quickly boarded the submarine.
Soon, a small rest room appeared before them, with more than a dozen beds, each occupied by a Japanese soldier.
The assault team members worked together seamlessly, entering the rest room one by one, and each of them targeted a Japanese soldier.
This time, Xu Peng ordered everyone to continue using paratrooper knives to deal with the Japanese soldiers.
After taking down the dozen or so Japanese soldiers, Xu Peng led his assault team forward, this time arriving at the main control room.
The Japanese soldiers on duty at both ends of the main control cabin were sitting in chairs, heads drooping, dozing off.
Without the slightest hesitation, Xu Peng fired directly at their heads.
"Pfft..."
After a few soft gunshots, the two Japanese soldiers slowly slid off the chairs.
Xu Peng knew that the cockpit was above the main control room, so he signaled two team members to immediately climb up the stairs and take control of the control room.
Then Xu Peng continued to lead the assault team toward the stern of the boat.
Now we entered the main rest room, where more than fifty Japanese soldiers were sleeping like dead pigs on narrow beds.
Just like before, each of the assault team members identified their target, and then, as Xu Peng raised his hand and quickly lowered it, they all opened fire.
Each Japanese soldier was shot at least three times, and the vast majority of them died instantly.
A few lucky ones, barely managing to groan in pain, were promptly finished off with a shot.
Xu Peng then ordered the assault team to continue advancing towards the stern of the boat to clear out the remaining enemy, while he led several assault team members to climb to the upper level.
This floor houses the captain's and first officer's lounge, as well as meeting rooms, lounges, radio rooms, and other cabins.
The captain of the I-68 was a lieutenant commander named Hirohachi Tanabe. He was still awake and drinking a little wine in the captain's cabin.
The captain's cabin door wasn't locked, and Xu Peng suddenly flung it open, then entered with his gun raised.
Tanabe Hirohachi was already quite drunk, and when he saw Xu Peng dressed in such a strange way, he had no idea that his life was about to end.
"Baka! What are you doing? Can't you even knock on the door?"
"I'll knock your mother's..."
Xu Peng delivered a hook punch to Tanabe Hirohachi, knocking out two of his teeth.
Hirohachi Tanabe was in excruciating pain, covering his face with one hand and pointing angrily at Xu Peng with the other, but he couldn't utter a word.
Xu Peng, as the deputy battalion commander of the special operations battalion, is fluent in five languages, including Japanese.
Xu Peng then loudly reprimanded him in Japanese.
"You damn Japanese devils, I'm a special forces soldier from China. You dare to invade our country? I'm here today to take your dog lives."
Xu Peng didn't want to kill him with a single shot, thinking that would be too easy on him.
Since he's the captain, let him sink to the bottom of the sea forever with his submarine.
Xu Peng ordered the assault team to tie Tanabe Hirohachi up tightly and then took him to the main control room.
In fact, the main control room is also the command room, where Hirohachi Tanabe usually issues various combat orders.
By this time, Tanabe Hirohachi had long since sobered up. He knew that the submarine had been attacked by the Chinese army and was now under their control.
"You are indeed powerful, much stronger than your Chinese navy. Your Chinese navy is utterly vulnerable."
"Your Second Fleet actually scuttled more than two hundred old ships and merchant vessels in Jiangyin and laid mines on the river, trying to stop my powerful navy from going north along the river. It's ridiculous."
Xu Peng and all the assault team members understood Japanese, and after hearing Tanabe Hirohachi's taunts, they were all filled with indignation.
Xu Peng slapped Tanabe Hirohachi twice, making him see stars.
"You little devils, this time it's different. With our special operations battalion here, you can forget about being arrogant anymore."
"By the way, the reason I spared your life is so you can see firsthand how our Chinese soldiers sink your aircraft carrier."
After speaking, Xu Peng began to issue combat orders.
"All personnel, to your positions. Start the submarine, close the hatch, begin the descent, raise the periscope, and the observers shall immediately locate the Japanese aircraft carrier."
Twenty minutes later, the observer reported: "The Japanese aircraft carrier Ryujo has been spotted at the two o'clock position, 1,200 meters away."
Xu Peng calmly ordered: "Adjust the submarine's course, and prepare to launch the first and second torpedo tubes at the bow."
Two minutes later, the observer reported: "The submarine has aimed at the Japanese aircraft carrier Ryujo."
"Torpedoes No. 1 and No. 2 are aimed at the midsection of the Ryujo aircraft carrier and launched immediately."
"Yes, aim at the midsection of the Japanese aircraft carrier Ryujo, fire."
"Whizzing"
Two Type 93 torpedoes were launched one after the other from launch bays 1 and 2, and then sped towards the Ryujo at a speed of more than 30 knots underwater.
The Type 93 torpedo has an astonishing maximum range of 40 kilometers, but its hit rate becomes extremely low beyond 10 kilometers.
The torpedo warhead is loaded with nearly 500 kilograms of explosives, and the explosive power of two torpedoes could potentially sink an aircraft carrier.
Therefore, the Type 93 torpedo is also known as the king of torpedoes.
After a day of fighting, the Japanese fleet was all resting early.
Pilots, in particular, needed to recover their strength so they could continue fighting the Nationalist army the next day.
Soon, on the dark surface of Hangzhou Bay, accompanied by two deafening roars, two enormous columns of water shot into the sky.
The two torpedoes not only successfully hit the midships of the Ryujo aircraft carrier on its port side, but also blasted two large holes in it.
Seawater rushed into the large hole, and what was most terrifying was that the aircraft carrier began to crack from the two large holes, and the cracks spread rapidly.
Just as the Japanese soldiers on the aircraft carrier discovered they were under torpedo attack and began to fight back.
The bow and stern of the Ryujo aircraft carrier are slowly tilting upwards due to a break in the middle of the hull, and the entire carrier is gradually sinking faster.
"Report: Both torpedoes hit their targets. The Ryujo has broken in two and is sinking."
"Load torpedoes and search for the next target."
After receiving the battle situation report from the observer, Xu Peng did not show any joy and continued to coldly issue orders.
After all, Long Fei's mission for the assault team was to sink all four of the Japanese aircraft carriers.
The battle has only just begun; it's not time to celebrate yet.
