“I think we can go to Golmud first and see if we can find any clues,” Aning suggested.

"No, no, I can't go. To be honest... I've been dreaming about Golmud these past few days. That place is incredibly eerie, and it's filled with poisonous gas. Otherwise, how could I have gotten poisoned as soon as I arrived? The air itself is probably full of toxins," Wu Xie said, shaking his head.

"Then shall we go together this time?" Aning asked tentatively.

"There's nothing inside... you don't need to waste your time." Wu Xie looked somewhat flustered but tried to remain calm.

“You weren’t…” Ah Ning wanted to ask him how he could know there was nothing inside since he had fainted. It seemed that Wu Xie was hiding something, but Hei Xiazi interrupted her.

“Miss Aning, if Third Master isn’t going, I’ll go!” Black Bear’s slightly teasing voice cut in at just the right moment, like a stone thrown into a freezing ice surface. He chuckled and took half a step forward, blocking the subtle line of sight between Wu Xie and Aning, seemingly oblivious to the tense atmosphere.

"What's the price? Let's talk. I'm an honest man, skilled, and fair-minded. My apprentice is frail and can't take much. I'm a tough guy, though. As for poison or evil, just take it as an experience."

Aning was interrupted from her questioning, her brows furrowing almost imperceptibly as her sharp gaze swept over Hei Xiazi's nonchalant face. Hei Xiazi still wore his signature smile, but deep within his eyes lay an unfathomable calm.

Ah Ning knew this man was slippery; his interruption now might not be out of genuine desire to go, but rather to muddy the waters, or... to help Wu Xie out of a predicament? She temporarily suppressed her questioning of Wu Xie, her gaze passing over Hei Xiazi's shoulder and returning to that corner.

The young man remained in the same position, like a silent statue, leaning against the cold wall or the carriage, his head slightly lowered, the shadow of his hat almost completely obscuring his eyes. He seemed oblivious to the small disturbance before him, all the noise and probing shut out by the invisible barrier around him.

However, the moment Ah Ning looked at him, the young man moved extremely slightly. It wasn't turning his head, nor speaking, but rather his fingers, which had been resting on his knees, curled almost imperceptibly, his knuckles turning slightly white. Then, he raised his head.

From the shadow beneath the hat brim, those calm, still eyes finally emerged, their gaze landing precisely on Wu Xie. The gaze wasn't sharp, but it carried a penetrating calmness. Wu Xie, who had just relaxed, felt uneasy under that gaze. He instinctively tried to look away, but felt as if his feet were nailed to the ground.

The young man's gaze lingered on Wu Xie's face for a full two or three seconds, a duration so long that Wu Xie felt the air itself seemed to freeze. Then, his gaze slowly shifted to A Ning. He still didn't speak, only giving A Ning a very slight nod.

This subtle movement was almost imperceptible, but it was noticed by all the observant people present. Aning's taut jawline seemed to relax slightly.

Wu Xie didn't know if Xiao Ge had discovered something, but he had a strong feeling that this trip to Golmud was necessary. Should he tell him that Chen Yunjin's notes were in his possession?
