HP: The Root of Everything - The Magician
Chapter 62 The McFastie Family
The next morning.
Teach Carr was in his hotel room watching the two red dots on the monitoring array; those two red dots were the two Auror wizards.
Their actions within the training array, made clear by the magic powder they had been sprinkled with.
Teach saw the red dot start moving, so he followed it: [This Auror wizard's job yesterday was to clean up black dragon dung, so today he's probably feeding the black dragon.]
Using magic to conceal his presence, Teach followed a male and female wizard to a high mountain on the island.
The mountains were shrouded in mist and lush greenery, a stark contrast to the residential areas below the island, like a paradise on earth. Halfway up the mountain, Teach spotted herds of cattle, sheep, and deer.
Suddenly, the Auror wizard that Teach was staring at vanished into thin air.
[Uh...? What's going on? Apparition? No, space isn't warping or contracting.]
[A Muggle-blocking spell? Probably not, otherwise the alchemy circle on my Mystic Eyes wouldn't have failed.]
[Then there's only one possibility: a curse, a curse even more advanced than a Muggle dispel curse.]
Teach Carr removed his Mystic Eyes and looked at the empty space in front of him with his left golden petrifying eye. Sure enough, he found something different—a magical barrier.
Looking around, Teach exclaimed in amazement: "This magical barrier has actually surrounded the entire valley. Not only that, the barrier extends towards the residential area below the island, isolating the airspace above the human living area and forming a barrier space."
[The Ministry of Magic, what a grand gesture!]
If I had to describe it, it would be like an egg...
The yolk is the residential area, the egg white is the space isolated by a magical barrier, and the eggshell is the sky above the barrier.
After observing the area, Teach temporarily closed his left eye and looked at the barrier in front of him with his normal right eye.
First, throw the stone to see if the magic barrier has any offensive capabilities against outsiders. After confirming that it does not, Teach touches it with his hand and finds that the barrier is as soft and elastic as jelly, but is also unusually tough.
A silenced bullet was fired, but thanks to the soft and elastic barrier, it only penetrated 20 centimeters before losing its propellant power.
Left with no other option, Teach had to reopen his petrifying eye and use its ability to petrify inanimate objects to forcibly break down the barrier.
Under Teach's control, he petrified the barrier to a size large enough for a person to pass through, then closed his eyes and hurriedly put on his Magic Eyes, otherwise, if the petrified area of the barrier was too large, it might alert the Auror wizards inside.
The petrified area was smashed, and when Teach entered, the broken barrier began to repair itself, causing Teach to frown.
Teach then began tracking the two red dots on the monitoring array, eventually finding them on a mountaintop, and at the same time... he also discovered the dragon.
A dragon coiled up in a mountain cave.
A black dragon with purple eyes watched coldly as the Auror wizard took food out of his retractable bag and fed it.
Although Teach was mentally prepared, he was still a little disappointed after seeing it for himself.
This black dragon, of medium to high rank among fire dragons, was far inferior to the thousand-year-old basilisk in the secret chamber. Its 30-foot-long, nearly 9-meter-long body was insignificant compared to the basilisk's 40-meter length, causing Detitch to shake his head in disappointment.
But there is good news: this black dragon is not the lizard dragon from the Harry Potter movies. It has four limbs and bat-like wings, and looks quite majestic.
Teach hid in the shadows and watched as the two Auror wizards finished feeding the black dragon. Then he carefully withdrew from the cave and Apparated with his wand.
At that moment, Teach looked at the monitoring array on the magic array disk and used teleportation magic to catch up.
With the propulsive running propelled by the pseudo-giant strength magic on his legs and the Blink magic, Teach, while unable to catch up with the long-distance Apparition teleportation, was still very fast.
About ten minutes later, Teach crossed mountains and ridges to reach another mountain. He watched calmly as the Auror fed the black dragon. This time it was a female black dragon, with two young dragons that had just learned to breathe fire beside it.
And so, Teach ran and dodged in the background for a whole day, spending the entire day tracking and observing, and finally recorded all the black dragons and their nests on Islay.
In the dead of night on Islay, Teach did not return to the hotel to rest.
At this moment, he was standing outside the mansion where two Auror wizards lived. After seeing that most of the lights on the island had been turned off, he quietly sneaked inside.
There were no alarm-triggered spells set up around or inside the mansion, allowing Teach to easily find the study.
In the study, Teach was searching through information about black dragons and a wizarding family that had supposedly lived in the Hebrides for centuries—the 'McFast' family.
Teach had serious doubts about this family.
It's possible that, as Joan Hanff said, magicians all suffer from paranoia.
It is understood that although the MacFastie family is not one of the 28 Holy Families, it is still a pure-blood wizarding family. However, three hundred years ago, the family was expelled from the ranks of pure-blood wizarding families by the 28 families.
Because they no longer form marriage alliances with the 28 families, no longer restrict their members from dating Muggles, and even allow members to marry into their families if they wish.
This is very unusual. In the wizarding worldview of the 16th and 17th centuries, pure-blood was an honor, a source of pride. Why would the MacFastie family voluntarily give up these honors? This is something that Teach Carr finds very puzzling.
Taking initiative means you have something in mind.
[If I don't understand, it means something's fishy!] Teach thought to himself, following his materialistic principles.
According to the history books of magic, the MacFastie family has lived on the Hebdiri Islands since its founding, and they have never cared about or participated in any changes in the magical world.
They stayed quietly and obediently on the archipelago, coexisting with the black dragon.
Legend has it that this family has taken it upon themselves to protect the black dragon for generations.
Teach shook his head with deep skepticism: "Over the past few hundred years in the magical world, dangerous magical creatures like dragons, which could reveal the existence of the wizarding world, have been hunted down, forcing the Ministry of Magic to enact protection laws to safeguard the dwindling number of dragons."
If the McFastie family truly considered it their duty to protect black dragons, then why would the Ministry of Magic classify native British black dragons as an endangered species?
There must be something fishy going on here.
[And I'm going to hunt the black dragon next, which will definitely lead me to run into this wizard family.]
In the study where the two Aurors worked, Teach didn't think he could find any documents or information related to the McFastie family, but it wouldn't hurt to put in the effort and look for them; maybe he'd find something!
