HP: The Root of Everything - The Magician
Chapter 21 Materialists
Teach Carr's open class ended, and the young wizards left the classroom with their excitement still lingering.
After the students left, Albus Dumbledore led the professors to the stage to congratulate Teach and once again expressed his amazement at the incredible magic.
Some of the professors, focused on their research, greeted the professors and then began to carefully examine the transmutation circle on the blackboard, intending to memorize it and experiment with it in their offices later. Snape was among them; he vaguely felt that the transmutation circle had a connection to his potion-making studies.
Regarding the professors' performance, Teach stated that this training array was only the most basic array in magic, and the professors could simply copy it if they wanted.
After making a copy, Dumbledore left with a smile on his face; as the headmaster, he was very busy.
The other professors who had classes in the afternoon also left, as they needed to go back and prepare the lessons and materials for the young wizards.
Now, all that's left is Snape, who copied the transmutation circle and immediately began studying it with great enthusiasm, and Gilderoy Lockhart, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, who is trying to get close to Teach with a self-satisfied smile.
Snape stayed behind for two reasons: firstly, he was genuinely studying the transmutation circle, and secondly, he wanted to ask Teach Cal about some common issues related to magic and sorcery in person.
The fact that Lockhart stayed is somewhat intriguing.
Teach, who has memories of his past life, knows Lockhart. Apart from his 'Forgetfulness Charm', Lockhart is practically useless in magic and is an extremely fame-hungry and vain third-rate wizard.
Teach glanced at Lockhart and then ignored him, instead asking Snape in a friendly manner, "Professor Snape, now that you've seen my transmutation circle, is there anything I can answer for you?"
Snape looked away from the copied transmutation circle, and just as he was about to ask some questions, he saw Professor Lockhart beside him, a hypocrite he utterly despised.
Snape, known for his sharp tongue, didn't care about saving face for others. He coldly said to Lockhart with obvious disgust, "I remember there was a Defense Against the Dark Arts class for second-year wizards this afternoon. Why aren't you preparing properly instead of lingering here?"
"Does this mean that you, who are ignorant and incompetent, have already come up with a way to casually brush off students?"
[He really doesn't hold back when he's criticizing people, he doesn't even call them by name,] Teach thought to herself as she listened to Snape's words.
When Lockhart heard Snape's utter disdain for him, he dared not utter a word of anger—no, he dared not even show his anger. Instead, he had to put on a smile to defuse the awkward situation where there was no way to back down. In the end, he could only leave with a twitching smile.
After the third person left the field, Snape asked Teach Carr for some questions about training formations.
And Teach Carr also gave a detailed explanation.
Of course, this wasn't free; Teach proposed a mutual learning exchange to Snape. After all, the creation of some special transmutation circles requires magical materials and potions.
In the realm of knowledge, there is no distinction of high or low or precious. Snape readily accepted the offer and told Teach Cal that he could come to his underground office in the Slytherin dormitory sometime, where he would answer Teach's questions about Potions without reservation.
And so, Teach Carr spent his mornings at Hogwarts in lively academic discussions with Snape.
Around noon, Teach Carl came to the hall for lunch and glanced around to find Luna sitting in the corner of the table, leisurely reading the newspaper and eating her meal.
She seemed completely oblivious to the fact that she couldn't make friends.
Teach strode forward, sat down next to Luna, and asked casually, "Luna, what are your thoughts after listening to my magic lesson this morning?"
Luna put down the newspaper with the "Singing the Quibber" sign, thought for a moment, and replied, "It's amazing. If I could directly implant 'Singing the Quibber' into everyone's mind using a training array, then I wouldn't need to do any marketing."
"My feeling about you was right after all; you really are a strange professor."
"Haha, really? Thank you for the compliment."
During Teach Carr's conversation with Luna, a little witch approached him and asked shyly, "Um... Professor Carr, your magic has deeply impressed me. I wonder if I could take up your meal time? I have a few questions I'd like to ask you."
Hermione Granger, clutching her notebook, looked at Teach with eyes brimming with thirst for knowledge.
Teach smiled peacefully at Hermione, extended her hand, and said, "Miss Granger, you can call me Professor Teach. I rarely use the surname Carl."
"Also, since you have questions to ask, I assume you've prepared a lot of notes in your notebook. Let me take a look first."
Having received permission, Hermione Granger excitedly handed the notebook to Teach, then naturally sat down next to Luna, ready to receive Teach's instruction at any time.
After a short while, Teach finished reading the questions Hermione had written down, and then said to her, "Let's eat first; it's not good for your health to go hungry."
"Also, the first-year witch next to you is Luna Lovegood."
Through Teach's introduction, Luna and Hermione became acquainted.
Although Luna doesn't think there's anything wrong with being alone and doesn't feel lonely, Teach still hopes she can have one or two friends.
Teach did this for no other reason than to be able to play the role of an unofficial professor at Hogwarts. He wanted to have some students willingly support him and act as a shield for Teach Carr when Auror wizards discovered his presence and attacked, or when he was ostracized by the wizarding world.
That's right, it's ruthless; magic is materialism.
Having embarked on the path of magic, Teach Carl needs to rationally assess the pros and cons of everything he encounters.
What is beneficial to him, and what can be utilized?
Hermione Granger, who will become Minister of Magic in the future, is someone Teach can use.
Although future events may change drastically due to his intervention and the emergence of magic, how could Teach Carl not take advantage of such a good opportunity—gaining Hermione's favor and even support without spending a penny upfront?
Of all the three, Harry Potter from the Saviors trio is the one Teach values most.
It wasn't because of his status as a savior, but because of the dangers that accompanied him.
Danger often hides benefits.
For example... the 'basilisk' in the Chamber of Secrets, this thousand-year-old basilisk was Teach Cal's second target when he came to Hogwarts.
Its eyes, capable of killing anyone who glares at it, are truly a priceless treasure.
It is an excellent material for making the 'Magic Eye'.
[Could it create Medusa's petrifying Mystic Eyes? Or the mythical Rainbow-level Mystic Eyes of Death Perception?] This made Teach very much look forward to the day when the secret chamber would be opened and he could go inside to hunt the Basilisk.
