HP: The Root of Everything - The Magician
Chapter 137 Utilization of Interests
Teach looked at Fudge defiantly, while Fudge looked back at Teach.
Although the two sides were on the verge of exchanging blows and seemed ready to kill each other at the slightest provocation, they actually had their own concerns.
Fudge was concerned that there was no solid evidence to prove that Teach had killed nearly fifty Aurors from his Ministry of Magic, since all of those Aurors had disappeared without a trace.
The concern was that if they arrested him without evidence, Teach Carr might resist arrest and then try to kill him, the head of the magic headquarters, at Hogwarts.
Keep in mind that Fudge doesn't have a wand right now, and his ability to cast spells without a wand is quite ordinary.
At the same time, Teach also had his concerns.
That is, Fudge is not an Auror, he is the Minister of Magic. He can kill the Aurors who come after him, but Fudge's status as Minister of Magic makes it impossible for Teach to do anything about him.
Killing him would be pointless and would only make him a target of the entire Ministry of Magic's manhunt, which would be a losing proposition.
Moreover, Dumbledore was also present at the scene.
It goes without saying that Dumbledore would never allow a Minister of Magic to die in his office.
But if he doesn't kill him, he'll always be a potential threat who might bite him.
Just as Teach was weighing the pros and cons of killing or not killing and struggling to make a decision, Kington Ketch stepped forward at the right time.
He approached Teach with a big smile, greeted him like an old friend, and then gave him a big bear hug.
During the bear hug, Teach frowned and said unhappily, "Mr. Kington, when did our relationship become so...?"
"Shh!"
Kington whispered in Teach's ear, "Mr. Carl, I know you're debating whether to kill Fudge or not, but I want to tell you that I also want to kill Fudge for the sake of the Chief of Staff position, but now is not the time."
"I think you know the reason."
Indeed, it would not benefit either Teach or Kington if Fudge were killed without prior arrangement.
Teach will be relentlessly hunted down by the Ministry of Magic.
Kington was also unable to rightfully assume the highest position of Minister of Magic.
So Teach backed down in front of Kington, saying, "Well then, I'll see how you handle this, but I want to remind you of something..."
"We are just partners."
Upon hearing this 'reminder,' Kington instantly understood.
Having realized the cooperative relationship between him and Teach, he had already unknowingly reversed the roles of superior and subordinate.
At first, Teach's magical skills were not strong, and he did not want to waste his time studying magic while being pursued by the Aurors. Therefore, Teach was in a passive position when Kington took the initiative to seek cooperation with him.
But things are different now; Teach's magical powers have made him fearless of any wizard.
Therefore, Teach can terminate his cooperation agreement with Kington Kitsch at any time.
Upon being reminded, Kington calmly replied, "Alright, leave it to me. I won't let Fudge overestimate himself in front of you."
Having received a reply, Teach scanned Fudge with his one gold and one black eye before swaggering past him and entering Dumbledore's office.
Teach didn't want to know how Kington would deal with Fudge's attempt to capture his disciple, Hermione, and there was no need for him to know; as long as the result satisfied him, that was enough.
In his office, Dumbledore watched silently as Vikman, representing the British government and the Anti-Magic Agency, shielded Teach.
Watching Kington whisper something in Teach's ear as if he were a 'friend'.
Then he watched as Teach Carr bypassed Fudge, the Minister of Magic, and entered the Headmaster's office, strolling leisurely toward him.
Dumbledore watched the whole thing unfold, and it made him re-examine Teach Carr in his mind: [Why?]
Why would someone protect, defend, and plead innocent for Teach when he did nothing wrong?
“You’re wondering why? Well, let me tell you, old Dumbledore,” Teach casually found a chair and sat down opposite Dumbledore. “Because I’m useful.”
"Because, to them, I possess unparalleled benefits and value."
“I am useful to Mr. Wickman; he can gain merit through me, which will lead to promotions and raises in the British government and institutions.”
"I am useful to the British government and institutions. My magic can help them strengthen their national armed forces to the point where they could easily dominate the world."
“I am useful to Mr. Kington. I can help him realize an ideal, an ideal that allows him to change the old magical world as a wizard.”
At this point, Teach looked at Dumbledore, who was deep in thought, and continued, "Dumbledore, you've actually understood this for a long time, but you didn't realize it."
"If I'm useless, will you agree to let me go to Hogwarts to learn magic?"
"If I'm useless, will you give me a position as an adjunct professor?"
"If I didn't use it, would you have been so generous as to let me have full access to the basilisk chamber beneath the castle?"
"So you know I'm useful and can be utilized, which is why I've stayed at Hogwarts until now."
At this point, Teach stood up.
He braced himself on the desk, looking down at the white-bearded old man, Dumbledore, before speaking in a chilling tone, "Headmaster Dumbledore, you know I'm useful, that's why you approve of me staying at Hogwarts."
"But now, you've found me more useful, more useful than you can control, so you want to expel me, is that right?"
"When you realize you can't expel me or do anything to me, you want to use Fudge's help at the Ministry of Magic to capture me."
"Once I'm in prison, that little Hermione will definitely come after me, her teacher, and leave Hogwarts to find a way to get me out of the Ministry of Magic."
"By then, Griffin, who has only spent a few days with Hermione, will become a Hogwarts possession under your control."
"As soon as I leave, and Hermione leaves, you'll naturally get Griffin."
"So your plan to escalate the situation and introduce danger into Hogwarts can be terminated, can't it?"
Under Teach's watchful gaze, Dumbledore suppressed his anger at being seen through again, and remained silent.
The plan to use Fudge to capture Teach was indeed conceived by Dumbledore, who also guided the operation.
However, Dumbledore's plans for Hermione's departure from school and her binding of Griffin to Hogwarts Castle were not yet fully developed.
But undeniably, even Dumbledore himself couldn't deny it.
If Teach is indeed arrested by Fudge, then he will definitely do what Teach said he would do.
