The maid squad is too strong, what use is there for me, the Demon King?

Chapter 36 Preparations Before Slaying the Dragon

As night fell, the sounds of the forest gradually subsided, broken only by the occasional low growl of a wild beast in the distance. In the clearing, a burning brazier emitted an eerie blue light, illuminating the surrounding twisted trees and rocks. The flickering flames cast shadows of demons, who stood silently, waiting.

The demons have somber and mysterious faces, their most distinctive feature being a pair of demonic horns protruding from either side of their foreheads. These horns are curved and sharp, seemingly symbols of dark power; their surfaces are smooth, ranging in color from deep black to dark red, sometimes even possessing a metallic sheen. These demonic horns are not only a mark of their identity but also their deadly weapons in battle.

Apart from his distinctive demonic horns, the demon race shares all other characteristics with humans, which is why Gray was able to remain an adopted son in the Kingdom of Olmec for twenty years without his true identity being discovered.

At the very front of the welcoming formation stood two elderly demons.

Both elders were demon clan elders, possessing peak seventh-tier strength, which enabled them to lead their clansmen to survive in the deeper parts of the Shadow Forest.

Beside the demon youth in the welcoming formation stood a wolf-like demon with exposed fangs, its four legs upright; this was the demon controlled by the demon race.

Suddenly, a slight tremor spread through the forest, and the demons immediately tensed up, knowing it was a signal of impending doom. With a series of heavy footsteps, Gray appeared, followed by a respectfully bowing Theta.

Upon seeing the Demon King that Sita had mentioned, the two old men frowned, their dissatisfaction rising in their hearts.

Because the Shadow Forest was deep and sparsely populated, Grey didn't put on his dark black robe.

At this moment, the demons saw Gray as he always did.

The demon horns, the most distinctive feature of the demon race, were hidden. In the eyes of the demons, this so-called Demon King was just a gentle and refined, or in other words, a weak and incompetent nobleman.

Gray had gotten used to hiding his magic horns; in fact, having them exposed and carrying such a heavy weight on his head was rather uncomfortable.

Gray's visit to these remnants of the demon race was in accordance with Theta's request, and also to see if the hiding place of his cheap people was suitable for establishing a branch of the Shadow Court.

Gray, who never intended to rule the demon race, disdained to display his demon king aura in front of them. Whether these people submitted or not was of no concern to him.

More than any of these things, Gray was concerned about the dragon.

Unfortunately, it's getting late, and even with enhanced vision using magic, it's not very good. I'll have to go find that dragon tomorrow morning.

Although the two senior elders of the demon race were dissatisfied, they still had to maintain appearances.

At the signal of the two elders, the demons performed a unified action and bowed deeply.

"Greetings, Demon Lord."

Seeing this, Xita frowned slightly.

On the surface, the demons bowed respectfully to Gray, but Theta felt the bow was too light.

When I, a descendant of a marshal and an eighth-tier professional, first met Lord Shadow Demon, I performed the kneeling ceremony, but these guys only bowed.

Although Sita was a bit naive, she wasn't stupid; she could tell that these demons were dissatisfied with Gray.

That makes sense. The Demon King was born, but he stayed in a human country for a full twenty years, during which time he hardly inquired about the situation of the demon race.

Such a hands-off manager is certainly not convincing.

But little did they know the Shadow Lord's profound plans.

Sita wasn't worried that they wouldn't acknowledge Gray as the Demon King.

Having followed Lord Shadow for so many years, Theta was already familiar with Gray's abilities and charm.

It's a pity that Lord Shadow was a little more lecherous...

"Flat body."

Gray adopted the authoritative tone of his Shadow form, bringing a slight sense of pressure to the entire scene.

Gray suddenly remembered something and turned to look at Theta.

"I remember there are magic arrays that can conceal one's power."

“Yes.” Sita seemed to realize something, and her pupils suddenly contracted.

"You want to?"

Feeling the gaze from Theta, Gray nodded calmly.

"Give the order to set up the magic array tonight, and go slay the dragon tomorrow morning."

"Yes!" Sita's calm heart stirred with emotion.

She wasn't worried at all about whether Grey was in danger; she was just filled with excitement.

We'll get to see that move again!

“But…” Sita slowly calmed down from her excitement and asked a question.

"Lord Shadow, the Shadow Forest is even more dangerous at night... I'm not questioning your strength, it's just those clansmen who set up the magic array..."

Gray understood Sita's concerns. Always prioritizing the future of the demon race, she didn't want to see any casualties among her people, especially now that the demon population had plummeted...

"Don't worry, I won't be idle tonight either," Gray reassured him. "The task of protecting the tribe is entrusted to you. I will continue hunting high-priced monsters tonight."

"I obey my orders."

Xita immediately set off to inform his people.

Gray turned his gaze to the depths of the Shadow Forest, where he could sense several powerful auras stirring.

Killing monsters increases your magic power, and the loot obtained from killing monsters is quite valuable, so hunting monsters is a good way to both train and make money.

The abundance of monsters and the high value of their loot are the main reasons why Shadow Forest is a popular destination for adventurers.

The few monsters in Bifeng Territory aren't even enough to fill Gray's teeth; at most, they're enough for the newly recruited Shadow Court's subordinates to train.

This is what a Western fantasy world should be like; this is what life in another world should be like.

Grinding monsters and opening treasure chests hold an inexplicable charm for Gray, a lover of games, anime, and novels.

The efficiency of Xita is quite good.

Before long, the entire demon race received Gray's order to "set up formation and slay the dragon."

The expressions of the two demon elders upon learning of this order were even more fascinating.

In their eyes, Gray, this incompetent Demon Lord, was utterly unremarkable, even weak and pathetic. (Boxer briefs! Boxer briefs!)

And now it's being labeled as arrogant and conceited.

The white dragon in the valley was equivalent to a peak ninth-tier professional. Fortunately, it was relatively gentle and only gave a warning before letting people go.

Otherwise, the exploration team sent to investigate the valley would never have been able to escape unscathed.

And this Demon King started causing all sorts of trouble as soon as he returned.

Slaying a dragon is a risky endeavor with both opportunities and risks. Throughout history, demon kings have likely relied on the strength of their people, and even after slaying the dragon, their people still suffer heavy losses.

The orders they've received are simply to have their clansmen set up a magic array to conceal their power.

Moreover, this Demon King doesn't even seem to be conserving his energy; he's going to spend the whole night killing high-level magical beasts.

"Arrogant brat," one of the elders scoffed.

Another elder pondered for a while before raising a question.

"What if he could really do it?"

The elder always felt that Greyna was not arrogant.

"If it can really be done, that would be wonderful." The elder laughed, "Then I will prostrate myself in reverence and welcome the Demon King to lead us to a prosperous era."

"But if that's not possible, then don't blame us for being ruthless and using that dragon to get rid of this Demon King."
