Your Highness, please stop chasing me.

Chapter 164 Terrified and Paralyzed

After two days and one night of fermentation, the fire in Shenjing Alley finally reached the Mu family.

Mu Hu had just finished his shift with Mu Qi and was about to go to Shenjing Lane to report to Mu Xue on the whereabouts of Aunt An and Mu Jiaojiao when he heard the gatekeepers discussing the fire that broke out in Shenjing Lane late at night and the many deaths.

Upon hearing this, Mu Hu's heart skipped a beat, and the first thing that came to his mind was Mu Xue's courtyard.

Unconcerned about revealing anything, Mu Hu grabbed the servant's collar and asked urgently, "Which household was involved in the fire in Shenjing Lane that you mentioned earlier?"

The servant was terrified. Mu Husheng was tall and strong, and usually had a stern face. Now, his angry glare made everyone too scared to move.

The servant who was being questioned was so frightened that he collapsed. He stammered and couldn't speak clearly, but it was clear that he mentioned the government's announcement.

Mu Hu flung the servant aside, and without even leaving the gate, he leaped over the wall and jumped out of the Mu residence, heading straight for the location where the notices were posted at the yamen.

When Mu Hu arrived at the location where the notice was posted, he happened to see Wang Xuanze, who had also rushed over after hearing the news.

Wang Xuanze glanced at Mu Hu discreetly. Recently, Mu Hu had been handling all of the Wang family's business, so Wang Xuanze and Mu Hu were quite familiar with each other.

Mu Hu glanced at the soldiers guarding the notice board, then looked towards the teahouse in the distance, and gestured to Wang Xuanze.

Wang Xuanze instantly understood Mu Hu's meaning. He nodded slightly and then pretended to look at the notice as if nothing was wrong.

Mu Hu entered the teahouse first and requested a private room. Soon after, Wang Xuanze also entered the teahouse and went straight to a private room.

As soon as Wang Xuanze sat down, he asked impatiently, "Ah Hu, what happened to Miss Xue? Where is she now?"

Mu Hu patted his shoulder, gesturing for him to sit down. Once Wang Xuanze had calmed down, Mu Hu spoke, "I don't know where Master is either. I only just found out about this myself. Master hasn't been looking for me."

"What? Miss Xue didn't look for you? Could she have encountered some danger?" Wang Xuanze couldn't sit still when he heard that Mu Xue hadn't contacted Mu Hu.

Mu Hu forcibly pressed him down again and continued, "Although I have no news of the master, she should be alright. I plan to go to the mortuary tonight to check the bodies and see if I can find anything. Young Master Wang, please go back to the Wang family and pretend you know nothing. Also, please tell your father that the master's arrangements will continue, and there's no need to worry about anything else. The master will definitely be fine."

The last sentence seemed to be addressed to Wang Xuanze, but it actually sounded more like Mu Hu was speaking to himself.

Mu Xue had disappeared like this before, and Mu Hu believed that this time Mu Xue just hadn't had time to find him yet, so he just needed to wait patiently.

And that was indeed the case. Mu Xue stayed in Ye Shangyuan's study, writing down the various selection requirements she had put forward.

The unit she wanted to build was a super special forces unit capable of penetrating deep into enemy territory and taking on a hundred enemies single-handedly. Naturally, it couldn't be joined casually. She always felt that people with good innate conditions, coupled with the hardworking spirit of soldiers in this era, all possessed this quality.

As she was writing, Mu Xue suddenly thought that although Mu Hu was older, his martial arts skills were considered top-notch among the people she knew. She could participate in the training and perhaps gain unexpected benefits. There was also Mu Qi, that baby-faced little boy. She had always thought that Mu Qi was a promising talent.

With that in mind, she also added the names of Mu Hu and Mu Qi.

This matter requires mobilizing the troops, and they certainly wouldn't hide it from Mu Qinghe, the great general of Xiyu Kingdom who holds significant military power. He would find out sooner or later anyway, so this is a good opportunity to bring these two people over, achieving the best of both worlds.

Leng Quan knocked on the door and came in. He walked to Ye Shangyuan's side and spoke softly. Mu Xue heard the voice, looked up at him, and then lowered her head to continue writing. She said, "If you have something to do, go ahead and do it. You don't need to stay with me. It's still early for me!"

Ye Shangyuan didn't urge Mu Xue to rest. He told her to find something to do so that she wouldn't overthink things when she was alone.

He nodded, stood up and said to Mu Xue, "If you're tired of writing, take a rest. I'll have Ye Yi find you something to eat and bring it over later. Don't get so busy that you forget to eat."

"Okay, go ahead and do your thing!" Mu Xue waved her hand impatiently without even looking up.

Ye Shangyuan smiled helplessly and walked out.

Leng Quan chuckled behind Ye Shangyuan's back. It was the first time he'd ever seen a girl so impatient with her prince. You see, the young ladies and noblewomen of the capital were practically begging to stick close to the prince!

After hearing the door close, Mu Xue looked up at the window and saw Ye Shangyuan and Leng Quan walking quickly out of the courtyard one after the other. Mu Xue looked away and focused on the paper in her hand, which showed a drawing of a piece of exercise equipment.

With the best workshop in Dongfang as its head, making a few pieces of equipment used for fitness in the previous life would be a piece of cake.

Time always flies when you're busy. When Mu Xue looked up again, she found that Ye Yi had already lit a lamp with a tinderbox.

Mu Xue rubbed her slightly sore neck and asked, "Ye Yi? When did you come in? What time is it now?"

At one o'clock in the morning, he placed the lamp he was holding on the desk before speaking, "Your Highness, it's time for dinner."

Mu Xue looked at Ye Yi speechlessly and said, "It's one thing for Leng Quan to joke with me, but why is Ye Yi calling me 'Princess' like him?"

"This subordinate would not dare to joke about the Princess Consort. It was the Prince's order that we should address the Princess Consort as such from now on," Ye Yi said solemnly.

Mu Xue remained silent for a moment. Given Ye Shangyuan's nature, he was indeed capable of doing such a thing.

She cleared her throat and asked again, "Yoruichi, I haven't seen you all day. Did I hurt you badly that night?"

Ye Yi shook his head and replied, "The medicine the Princess gave me was very effective, and I'm much better now. It was the Prince who ordered me to investigate the matter of Prince Jing's heir. I just returned."

Mu Xue nodded knowingly and said with a smile, "Oh, I thought you were angry and avoiding me because I hurt you! I'm so sorry about that night, but thank you too, thank you for bringing Granny Kang out." After saying that, Mu Xue bowed to Ye Yi.

Ye Yi was startled and paused for a moment. By the time she remembered to dodge, Mu Xue had already straightened up.

Mu Xue noticed Yoruichi's discomfort and said, "Yoruichi, I really want to thank you. Don't feel guilty!"

Before Ye Yi could speak, Mu Xue quickly added, "I'm actually a little hungry, let's go eat!"

As he spoke, he quickly organized the dozens of pages of paper on his desk and picked them up.

Mu Xue asked, "Is Uncle Wu here?"

Ye nodded and said, "When I returned, I saw Master Wu starting a fire to cook."

Mu Xue said happily, "Perfect timing! I have something good to show him! Let's go quickly and find Uncle Wu."
