Transmigrated Leftover Woman in Rural Style

Chapter 53 The situation is not good

Li Xiaoyang gritted his teeth and carried Li Xiaonuan to the Cangbaicao Medical Clinic in one go, just as the sun was setting. At that moment, Qi Ji returned, reeking of alcohol. Seeing Li Xiaonuan in such a disheveled state, his heart skipped a beat, and he instinctively felt as if he had done something wrong.

He stepped forward, intending to take Li Xiaonuan from Li Xiaoyang's back, but Li Xiaoyang dodged him. Li Xiaoyang did this to prevent Li Xiaonuan from being hurt by further rumors, as many busybodies were following them.

But Qi Ji saw it as Li Xiaonuan trying to distance herself from him. However, he couldn't worry about that now. He was feeling the effects of the alcohol and needed to go back and rest. As for what had happened to Li Xiaonuan, he'd let his father handle it.

Inside the clinic, everyone was doing their job. Xiao Yang carrying Li Xiaonuan into the clinic immediately attracted attention. A clever young servant went to fetch the female doctor. The manager himself came out and arranged for Li Xiaonuan to be placed in a private room.

Qi Ji staggered back to the backyard, found Fei Fei, and pleaded, "Sister-in-law, please help me again. Miss Li seems to be injured; she was just taken to the clinic. Could you go out and check on her for me?"

Fei Fei felt uncomfortable from Qi Ji's smell of alcohol, so she covered her nose and replied, "Alright, I'll go out and take a look. You should go back and rest."

Qi Ji shook his head and bowed to Fei Fei, saying, "Thank you in advance, sister-in-law. I'll be going back now."

Fei Fei watched Qi Ji's retreating figure and muttered, "What's wrong with him now? Why is he drinking so much in broad daylight?"

Inside the private room, the female doctor was examining Li Xiaonuan. Madam Su stood guard at the door, fearing someone might barge in. Although the doctor had drawn the curtain in front of the bed, she was still worried.

Xiao Yang also stood guard outside the door, preventing anyone from accidentally wandering in. After Xiao Gang entered the clinic, he dashed off to the backyard, and no one knew what he was doing.

When Fei Fei arrived at the front hall, she saw Xiao Yang pacing back and forth like a cat on a hot tin roof. She sighed and stepped forward to ask, "Brother Li, I heard that Miss Li is injured. Is it serious?"

Over the past two months, Li Xiaoyang had visited the clinic quite frequently. He was naturally aware of Fei Fei's identity. Therefore, he said urgently, "Dr. Fei, my sister seems to have injured her kneecap; she's completely passed out. Dr. Liu is examining her inside. Why don't you go in and take a look too?"

Fei Fei agreed and lifted a corner of the curtain to go inside. Behind the curtain, Madam Su said with a sob in her voice, "Dr. Fei, please take a look at Xiao Nuan. She was pricked with needles but she can't wake up."

Fei Fei gently comforted her, "Don't worry, Miss Li is blessed, she'll be fine. I'll go check on her first, you can sit and wait over there."

Madam Su covered her mouth and nodded in agreement, but did not sit down. She paced anxiously back and forth in front of the bed, feeling extremely uneasy.

Fei Fei looked at Li Xiaonuan, who was lying quietly on the couch. Her face was so thin it was almost unrecognizable, and she was pale to the point of being translucent. Her skin, which was already slightly rough, was now sallow and lifeless. The dark purple handprints and scratches on her cheeks testified to the torment Li Xiaonuan had endured.

She asked Doctor Liu, "What's wrong with Miss Li?"

Dr. Liu sighed, "Overwork and excessive thinking have damaged her mind and spirit. That's why she fainted. In addition, she has many injuries, the most serious being her two knees. If my diagnosis is correct, her right kneecap has a fracture, otherwise it wouldn't be so swollen."

Fei Fei put on cotton gloves and stepped forward to examine Li Xiaonuan herself. Just as Dr. Liu had said, Li Xiaonuan's right kneecap was badly injured; if not treated properly, her leg would be ruined.

Looking at the pinch marks and footprints covering her body, Fei Fei couldn't help but sigh. What kind of hatred could drive someone to such a state? When the examination reached her head, Fei Fei was stunned.

Li Xiaonuan had many bald patches on her head. Her hair was messy and would fall out at the slightest touch. Blood was still seeping from the most severely injured areas of her scalp.

Fei Fei felt a chill run down her spine. Although she hid in the backyard all day, she still knew what she needed to know. She had also heard the rumors about Li Xiaonuan, but she knew they were just rumors.

It's heartbreaking that Li Xiaonuan still suffered such torment.

The two carefully applied the medicine to Li Xiaonuan and changed her into a hospital gown. After doing all that, Fei Fei realized she was covered in sweat. She looked at Dr. Liu and saw that he was wiping away sweat just like her.

The curtain was drawn back, and Madam Su was standing there, sobbing with her mouth covered. She had heard the entire conversation through the curtain. How could her little Nuan suffer such a misfortune? If her legs were truly crippled, how would she survive?

Seeing this, Fei Fei comforted her, "Auntie, please don't be like this. Miss Li needs your care and company right now. You need to take care of yourself first. Don't worry, Miss Li will wake up tomorrow."

Su gritted her teeth and held back her sobs, nodding repeatedly, but the tears just wouldn't stop.

Fei Fei sighed, lifted the curtain, and went out. She was going to arrange a ward for Li Xiaonuan and find someone to carry her in.

Outside the cubicle, Xiao Gang was holding onto Prince Jing, his eyes brimming with tears as he waited. Seeing Fei Fei, he pouted and asked, "Uncle Fei, how is my sister? Has she woken up?"

Fei Fei felt a pang of pity, so she pulled Doctor Liu aside and said, "Ask her whatever you have to say. I'll go to the backyard to make some preparations; we'll move your sister in later."

Xiao Gang nodded obediently and turned to Dr. Liu to ask, "Dr. Liu, how is my sister?"

Dr. Liu sighed and said bluntly, "Your sister's condition is very bad. She may not wake up for two or three days. Her right knee is badly injured; it seems like the bone is fractured. If it's not treated properly, her leg may be ruined."

No sooner had Dr. Liu finished speaking than tears streamed down Xiao Gang's face. Xiao Yang angrily pounded the ground with his fist, his eyes red and swollen as he silently roared.

After Prince Jing and Doctor Liu understood Li Xiaonuan's condition, Prince Jing pulled Xiao Gang to the backyard and asked, "Boy, talk to the old man. What happened to your sister? Why was she injured?"

Xiao Gang, sobbing, recounted the events in broken sentences. Prince Jing listened, then fell into deep thought. After a moment, he asked, "Didn't Wei Yu do anything about this?"

Xiao Gang shook his head and said, "I don't know, my sister walked home from the restaurant by herself."

Prince Jing was puzzled and planned to ask him himself. Seeing that Xiao Gang was still wiping away tears, he scolded, "Alright, what kind of man cries like this? I can cure your sister's little problem. Go and help your mother, and I'll take a look at your sister's leg tomorrow."

Hearing this, Xiao Gang finally felt relieved. He wiped away his tears and thanked Prince Jing. Li Xiaonuan had once told him that it wasn't good for a boy to cry too much, or others would laugh at him.

Prince Jing shook his head, watching Xiao Gang's retreating figure. A serious expression flashed across his chiseled face, his mind racing. He stood there for a long time before finally walking out with his hands behind his back. He was going to find Wei Yu and find out what was going on.
