On the second floor, where guests felt right at home, all five private rooms were set up with banquet tables. Each room had two tables.

Having not set foot here for nearly five years, Qi Ji was filled with complex emotions. Recalling those days, however, he no longer felt the same heartache as before, which was a good sign.

Since there weren't many guests, ten tables were just enough to seat everyone. Also, because they were seated in private rooms, it was less noisy. Li Xiaonuan and Qi Ji, father and son, were quite satisfied with this arrangement.

But there are always those who are never satisfied, and they will always come out to stir things up when you are in a good mood.

"Xiao Nuan, why did you only invite so few people? It doesn't look lively at all. My family members are all here at the market today. Why don't we invite them up for a seat and help Xiao Gang build up his popularity?" Fifth Aunt Chen suggested while constantly putting food into her bowl.

Li Xiaonuan was speechless. Even her maternal family had been invited; if they weren't invited to a meal, who knew what they would say about them later? It was only because the old lady was arranged to sit at the same table as the Qi family elders that Chen Shi dared to be so bold.

Although she wanted to pretend she hadn't heard, the private room was so small that Li Xiaonuan didn't even have a place to hide. However, she was also unwilling to invite that awful family upstairs like that.

While they were hesitating, Li Xiaoyang whispered in Li Xiaonuan's ear, "Sister, let them eat downstairs. Just say there are no seats upstairs. Serve the same dishes. Anyway, I think Doctor Qi's family will finish their meal soon and leave quickly. Even if they come up, they won't run into anyone from Doctor Qi's family."

With a quick thought, Li Xiaonuan came up with a good plan: first, stall the Chen family, and then invite the Chen family in for a meal once most of the Qi family had left. That way, the Chen family wouldn't run into the Qi family, and even if something went wrong, it wouldn't affect Li Xiaogang.

Having figured it out, Li Xiaonuan smiled and said to Chen Shi, "Fifth Aunt, I'll go ask the kitchen first to see if they can make another table of food. If they can, then you can invite your maternal grandmother and the others over. You all eat first, I'll go check."

Chen was taking a bite of braised pork when she heard Li Xiaonuan's words. Without even swallowing the meat, she said, "Xiaonuan, you don't have to make the same dishes. Just pick seven or eight of your favorite specialties and serve them. As for the rest, just serve more meat. I think this braised pork and steamed chicken are quite good. Serving a couple more plates should be enough."

Speaking with spittle flying everywhere is bound to be a mess. Although Li Xiaonuan really wanted to refute Chen's words, seeing the greasy soup dripping from the corners of her mouth was simply unbearable to look at. So she decided not to argue with her, casually agreed, and then fled in a panic.

Behind her, her fifth uncle's scolding followed. Then came her fifth aunt's voice, trying to defend herself and acting coquettishly. Li Xiaonuan felt a chill run down her spine and was thankful that she had escaped quickly.

Just as she was about to turn and go down the stairs, her arm was grabbed from behind. Li Xiaonuan turned around and saw that it was Qi Ji, so she turned back and asked, "Dr. Qi, is there something you need?"

Qi Ji nodded and replied, "I do have something to tell you. I've been wanting to talk to you for a while, but I didn't want to bother you because you were too busy."

Li Xiaonuan asked curiously, "What's wrong?"

Qi Ji pulled Li Xiaonuan's arm and said as they walked downstairs, "Let's find a place to talk properly. The fewer people who know about this, the better."

Li Xiaonuan nodded, letting Qi Ji lead her away, completely unaware of how outrageous this scene was in the eyes of the world. But this was understandable; after all, she had only been here for less than three months and was not yet accustomed to these feudal ideas.

On the third floor, at the corner, Wei Yu, dressed in purple, stared blankly in the direction the two had left hand in hand. In a daze, he seemed to be transported back five years. Back then, he had silently watched Qi Ji and Chu Lin interact in this same way.

A moment later, Wei Yu turned and went back to the study. Seeing Wei Bian frowning in deep thought while looking at an account book, he left again. As if possessed, he unconsciously went downstairs to the backyard.

Xiao Si followed silently behind his master, one question after another popping into his mind. Wei Yu seemed somewhat agitated and strange today. He clearly wanted to cause trouble for Li Xiaonuan, yet he was hiding on the third floor, secretly observing her.

Having followed Wei Yu for seven years, Xiao Si always felt that Wei Yu had been living a false life. After Miss Chu married into the family, Wei Yu became somewhat reckless and irresponsible. It wasn't until Li Xiaonuan appeared that Wei Yu started doing serious things again.

Just then, Wei Yu suddenly stopped. Caught off guard, Xiao Si nearly bumped into him. Fortunately, the people around Wei Yu were all somewhat skilled, allowing Xiao Si to regain her balance in time.

Only after they stopped did Xiao Si faintly hear the conversation. He listened intently and managed to make out the following:

“Miss Li, are you just going to let Xiao Gang run wild? If those medicines are not used properly, they will cause you a lot of trouble.”

"Thank you for your concern, Dr. Qi. If you can really concoct such a medicine, then give it to Xiaogang. Don't worry, I won't let him do anything reckless. Anyway, as long as we find a skilled doctor and don't let anyone suspect anything, everything will be fine."

“Miss Li, don’t you understand after I’ve said it all? Those people are all people who have grudges against you. If they suffer retaliation after Xiaogang becomes an apprentice, don’t you think they would think of you first?”

"Oh dear, thank goodness Dr. Qi reminded me. I really hadn't considered this issue. But they always mess up my life, and I just can't stand it. I feel uneasy if I can't see them suffer. Dr. Qi, why don't you give me some advice?"

Upon hearing this, Wei Yu stepped forward and appeared in front of Qi Ji and the other person without warning, smiling maliciously: "What ideas are you coming up with? When it comes to ways to prank people, no one is better than me."

The sudden arrival startled Li Xiaonuan. Qi Ji, after a moment of shock, quickly recovered. He secretly blamed himself for choosing the wrong place to talk. Luckily, it was Wei Yu; otherwise, if their conversation had been leaked, they would have been in deep trouble.

Ignoring their reactions, Wei Yu sat down. He then ordered the servant who had followed him, "Servant, bring some tea and snacks. We need to have a good chat."

Xiao Si's lips twitched slightly. Knowing Wei Yu as he did, he was planning to help Li Xiaonuan. But couldn't they find someone else to keep watch? Xiao Si smiled wryly and resignedly went to arrange the related matters.

After finally clearing away the loiterers in the backyard and serving tea and snacks, Xiao Si was assigned another task by Li Xiaonuan. With a bitter face, Xiao Si went to Steward Qin and hurriedly explained the situation. He was eager to return and hear Wei Yu's terrible advice, wanting to know who would be so unlucky as to fall for it.

When Xiao Si rushed back to the scene, he only saw a bizarre scene.

Wei Yu and Qi Ji sat facing each other at the stone table, silently sipping their tea. Li Xiaonuan sat to one side, glancing at this person and then at that person from time to time, her eyes shining with curiosity.

Little S sighed. How could he forget? These two hadn't seen each other for four years. Apparently, there was some past grievance between them.
