Imprisoning the Black Moonlight
Chapter 19 Forget Me, Brother Jin
It snowed all night in L City. In the early morning, the entire city was still shrouded in a cool white. Perhaps even the wind was unaware that a private plane on the outskirts of the city had taken away a beautiful young woman and, at the same time, a man's life.
Last night, Hong Jin was thoroughly drunk by the little vixen. When he regained consciousness, it was already noon the next day.
He was always self-disciplined, and this was the first time he had experienced something like this. The man shook his bewildered head, quickly washed his face, and was just about to call his little one when his father's video call came in.
"Ah Jin!" On the other end of the phone, Hong Sangneng looked exhausted, but his hawk-like eyes flashed with a cold light. "The secretary said that they haven't been able to contact you for more than ten hours since last night. What happened?"
His father rarely paid attention to his schedule, and he trusted this son so much that he could even entrust him with some important national affairs in secret.
“It’s nothing, Father.” Hong Jin rubbed his temples, his hoarse voice dry and low. “I had some personal matters to take care of.”
"Hmm!" The man on the other end of the phone remained calm and aloof. "You're still young, it's normal for you to be playful. As long as it doesn't interfere with important matters, I won't interfere too much. But, Ah Jin, make sure to handle this cleanly and leave no hidden dangers, understand?"
Hong Jinshou's long fingers paused for a moment, then he looked up at his phone screen. After a long while, he smiled helplessly. "Father, I have no interest in playing around with women! I went to see my girlfriend yesterday, but I'll bring her home this time to discuss marriage!"
Hong Sang was taken aback when his son suddenly brought up marriage. A rare flicker of emotion crossed his usually stern face. "Marriage? I've never heard you mention it before. Where is the girl from?"
"I'm Chinese. We were just dating before, but recently I suddenly want to get married!" The young man said calmly, leaning back against the headboard and lighting a cigarette.
Hong Sangneng was silent for a few seconds before saying, "Although we have always been friendly with China since the old king and your grandfather, it might still cause trouble if the eldest son of the family suddenly marries a Chinese girl!"
Political struggles are unpredictable. The eldest grandson of a top Southeast Asian power family marrying a Chinese woman is undoubtedly a signal to the world of the Hong family's political leanings for the next few decades. If someone with ulterior motives uses this to their advantage, the Hong family will face considerable challenges in international and diplomatic circles.
“Father!” The aloof eldest son smiled calmly. “The purpose of our existence is to solve one problem after another! The Hong family has faced enough troubles already. Don’t worry, I will handle it well.”
The eldest son never makes boastful remarks. He said that if he could handle it well, there would be no future troubles. The new prime minister was very busy and didn't have much time to chat with his son. He said, "Come back as soon as possible!" and then hung up the video call.
After sleeping all morning, the man found himself overwhelmed with work to do. He quickly ate something and worked until sunset before remembering the "surprise" his little girl had told him to open when she got home.
Upon entering the living room, a delicate pink gift bag lay quietly on the coffee table. Before he could even sit down, the doorbell rang, and Hong Jie's annoying face appeared on the screen by the door.
He casually pressed the door open button, without even turning his head, and started unwrapping the gifts.
"Ah Jin, have you set a date to go back? What did you say to your little vixen last night?" Jie walked in and casually straddled the sofa opposite him. "What are you doing? I'm asking you a question!"
“Last night, Yuebao said she would call home to let them know and get back to me tonight. She said she had everything arranged and we would set off immediately.”
As Hong Jin spoke, he opened the packaging. However, when he saw the "My Heart Is Not Stone" necklace lying in the box, his face instantly darkened, and his whole being was shrouded in a black mist.
He picked up the necklace; underneath it was the card he had given to Yuebao, and a letter.
The man's mind went blank. The buzzing sound lingered in his ears. His trembling hands tried twice before he finally picked up the paper.
Hong Jin, I have so much to say, but I don't know how to tell you. After thinking it over, I'll leave you a letter instead.
First of all, I want to apologize to you. Although our first meeting was indeed an accident, my approach to you later was definitely for a purpose. At that time, I had just arrived in Y country, I couldn't speak the language, I was not doing well in school, I had no money, I was ostracized by my classmates, and I had nowhere else to turn but to seek help from others. That's when I met you. I'm sorry, please forgive my willfulness.
During our relationship, I saw how good you were to me. I thought you were just a playboy having a fleeting interest and would break up with me when you got tired of me. I never thought about the future.
Hong Jin, I'm sorry. I'm just an ordinary Chinese girl who wants to live an ordinary life. We come from different worlds and have our own life paths. We really shouldn't get entangled with each other.
Forget me, Brother Jin. I was just a passerby who accidentally wandered into your life. From now on, though we are separated by mountains and rivers, I sincerely wish you to meet a good man and have a lifetime of happiness.
……
The fire in the fireplace in the living room flickered, and steam kept rising out. For some reason, Hong Jie felt that the huge living room was frozen solid. He had never seen his cousin like this before. His face was withered, pale, and lifeless, as if his soul had been taken away.
Hong Jin gripped the paper, his knuckles turning white. He was completely still, yet the veins on his body bulged out of his skin, as if they were about to burst. A few strands of hair hanging casually between his brows trembled violently, revealing his desperate attempt to suppress his rage.
"Ah, Ah Jin, what, what's wrong?" Hong Jie asked anxiously, stepping forward to put his arm around his cousin's shoulder.
"It's nothing!" Hong Jin said in a deep voice, then got up in a daze and walked towards the bedroom.
"Are you really alright?" Hong Jie frowned, looking worriedly at his lonely figure.
The man didn't say anything, just waved his hand and dragged himself inside.
puff~
Before the man, who was still stunned in place, could react, Hong Jie watched helplessly as the man not far away clutched his chest, spat out blood, and fell straight to the ground.
"Ah Jin~"
Hong Jie roared and chased after him, but the man was already unconscious, lying straight on the ground, still clutching the paper tightly in his hand.
……
When Hong Jin opened her eyes, she was already lying in a hospital bed.
"Ah Jin, you're awake!" Hong Jie, looking worried, poured him a glass of water and handed it to him. "Are you alright?"
Hong Jin struggled for a long time before finally managing to squeeze out a single word, trembling: "Investigate!"
Hong Jie knew what he wanted to investigate, but he stood there, frowning and not moving. After hesitating for a long time, he gritted his teeth and ran his hand through his short, sharp hair. "Ah Jin, half an hour ago, we received a call from home. Prince Hagnau, together with the deputy commander of the Phnom Penh gendarmerie, imprisoned my third uncle and launched a coup. They have already surrounded the Royal Palace and the Prime Minister's residence. The news hasn't spread yet, and my grandfather and eldest uncle are dealing with them..."
The situation was clear; he didn't need to say anything more about the choice.
The man lying on the hospital bed had a sinister and terrifying face. His fists were clenched. After a few seconds, he closed his bloodshot eyes, gritted his teeth, and trembled as he squeezed out two words, "Go back!"
No one saw a single tear slip from the man's left eye, running down his short, resolute hair.
