Imprisoning the Black Moonlight

Chapter 15 Top Secret Identity

The setting sun cast its last rays, and the autumn wind rustled. After a day of classes, Yao Gongyue hurried back to her dormitory carrying a pile of snacks.

Yu Lili was quite traumatized. She has been staying in her dormitory for the past few days, not going anywhere and not seeing anyone.

Yao Gongyue tried every day to cheer her up, but to little avail.

“Honey, I bought your favorite snacks, come and see?” She pushed open the dormitory door and waved the bag in her hand at Yulili’s high-arched bed.

"Yuebao!" Yulili's voice was choked with sobs.

Yao Gongyue's heart sank. She closed the door, walked to her side, and asked seriously, "What's wrong?"

"Yuebao, the police officer in charge of my case just called me and said, said..." You Lili's eyes were filled with tears and fear as she stammered, her hand holding her best friend's icy cold hand.

"say what?"

"Tell me, those thugs who assaulted me were severely beaten inside, and the most arrogant one—no, he died from his injuries. Ask me if I know anything about this!" Yu Lili became more and more agitated as she spoke. "Yuebao, what should I do? Am I going to be implicated in someone's death?"

Yao Gongyue's heart skipped a beat. For some reason, she felt that this was either done by Hong Jin or Ouyang Xu. No matter who it was, she was inextricably linked to it. The girl's cherry lips instantly turned two shades whiter.

“Lily, don’t overthink it. How could this have anything to do with you? You’re the victim. You know, even thieves have their code of honor, and there’s a hierarchy of contempt among criminals. Rapists are the most despised. Maybe it’s because those people inside couldn’t stand them, so they’re acting on behalf of God. Fights among criminals are common. It has nothing to do with you, me, or anyone else, understand?”

Though she said this, Yao Gongyue's slender white fingers trembled uncontrollably. She suppressed the terror in her chest and comforted You Lili, "Darling, you rest first, don't think too much. I have something to do, I'm going out for a bit!"

After saying that, she quickly covered her best friend with a blanket, grabbed her phone, and went out.

In a secluded corner of the academy, a beautiful young woman sat on a bench, took a few deep breaths, and just as she took out her phone, a call came in, displaying the name "Ouyang Xu".

Pressing the answer button, a deep, clear male voice came from the other end, "Little Chang'e!"

"Yes, it's me, Brother Xu!"

"How have you been these past two days?" The person on the other end carefully chose their words.

"Is there something you need?" Yao Gongyue was preoccupied and didn't want to answer this pointless small talk.

"Little Chang'e, is that man named Hong Jin really your boyfriend? Do you know him? Do you know his background?" Hearing her impatient voice, the man simply asked directly.

“He’s my ex-boyfriend! We broke up before, but he doesn’t want to break up anymore!” Yao Gongyue felt that there was no point in hiding this. Although she had a crush on Ouyang Xu, those things were all in the past. He was getting engaged, so it was just a dream after all.

"As for his background, he's a businessman from Japan, nothing special!" The girl's voice was calm and collected, but Ouyang Xu's heart sank more and more as he listened.

"Little Chang'e, I've investigated that man." Ouyang Xu's serious voice came again. After a two-second silence, he said, "His identity is definitely not simple. I haven't found any information about him, including that man named Hong Jie who's with him! Do you know what this means?"

Yao Gongyue frowned and pursed her lips, remaining silent. She didn't know what to say. The fact that no information could be found meant he wasn't anything special, right?

Ouyang Xu seemed to have guessed her thoughts and smiled helplessly, "Silly girl, I, Ouyang Xu, have been in the business world for so many years, I didn't do it for nothing. There's only one kind of person that even I can't find out about, and that is..." On the other end of the phone, a deep breath came out, "...a top-secret identity!"

"Top Secret?" Yao Gongyue was even more confused. "What do you mean by top secret? Could it be that he really is a terrorist?" The girl's eyes widened, and her heart pounded.

"It's hard to say. It could be related to the military, politics, or a terrorist organization!" The man's voice was complex.

“Little Chang’e, you’re just a nineteen-year-old girl. No matter who he is, it’s not a good thing for you!” After a two-second pause, the other end continued, “I remember you told me before that your dream was to go back to Beijing, get a government job, and live a decent life with your family. Little Chang’e, if your original aspirations haven’t changed, I hope you’ll be careful when making friends!”

The man spoke earnestly, his words filled with concern and care. Yao Gongyue felt a warm current flow through her heart, and she held back her tears, saying, "I know, Brother Xu, thank you. I'm so sorry to have troubled you!"

"No need, Little Chang'e. If you need anything, you can come to me. I will definitely help you. Remember, don't go the wrong way, okay?"

"Okay! Don't worry, it won't happen!" she said, and then hung up the phone.

A cool breeze ruffled her slightly wavy long hair. The girl lowered her head, seemingly lost in thought.

After a long while, she looked up at the dappled starlight in the distance and suddenly longed to go home.

The phone rang again; it was Hong Jin!

"Baby, where are you?" On the other end of the phone, Hong Jin couldn't hide his suppressed anger.

"At school!" She brushed her long hair behind her ear and remained seated.

"Your class ended a long time ago, and I haven't seen you in your dorm. You couldn't have gone to the library. Tell me, where are you on campus? Who are you with? Hmm? Why didn't you come to find me after class?"

The man's tone was quite authoritative, and she had no doubt that if Hong Jin had asked her those questions right now, she would have been so frightened that her tongue would have trembled.

Composing herself, she didn't answer the man's question, but instead asked in a gentle voice, "Did you send someone to deal with the people who bullied Lily?"

The person on the other end seemed surprised by her question and asked in a deep voice, "It was Ah Jie who handled it, what happened?"

"The police said those people were seriously injured, and one of them died!" The girl tried to remain calm, but her trembling voice betrayed her panic.

For a nineteen-year-old girl from a peaceful country, the loss of a life is far too heavy a burden. Regardless of whether the person was guilty of a heinous crime, the loss of a life is related to her, and no one can remain indifferent to it.

"Baby!" came the voice from the other end, a faint chuckle clearly emanating from the man. "Scared? Weren't you quite fierce when you were beating people up?"

“It’s not the same!” Her voice rose two octaves. “They’re so strong, and I’m skinny. A few hits won’t kill me. It’s just to vent my anger. Their crimes should ultimately be judged by the law, shouldn’t they?”

"Hmm! The law judges the law. They messed with my darling, so I'll judge them!" the man said lazily and casually.

The more he acted this way, the heavier Yao Gongyue's heart became. Just how ruthless and cold-blooded could someone be so indifferent as to disregard human life?

The girl remained calm and chuckled, "Wow, I didn't even know Lily had become Young Master Hong's darling. Tsk tsk tsk, Young Master Hong really goes all out for a woman!"

"Yuebao! Stop fooling around! You—" Before the man could finish speaking, the girl had already pressed the hang-up button, and the charming smile on her face instantly dimmed.

Ouyang Xu was right. No matter what Hong Jin's identity was, she could no longer get involved with this man. It concerned her future, and she couldn't take any risks.
