Rebirth with a Space to Counterattack and Abuse the Scumbag

Chapter 47 The Elder's Test: A Glimmer of Space

The old man, leaning on his cane, walked shakily in front, with Gong Lin and I following behind. We crossed a narrow mountain path and arrived at a dilapidated thatched hut hidden in a mountain valley.

This old man looks like a sage, but his place is so shabby!

If I hadn't seen him appear out of thin air with my own eyes, I would have almost thought he was just an old farmer from the mountains.

The hut contained only a table and a few broken stools; it was completely empty, without even a teapot.

The old man didn't stand on ceremony. He plopped down on the stool and stared at me with his all-seeing eyes, which made me feel really uneasy.

"Speak up, old man, what exactly do you want? Stop with the mystery, I hate that stuff." I tried to sound relaxed, but I was actually incredibly nervous inside.

The old man stroked his beard and said slowly, "Young lady, this jade pendant of yours is no ordinary thing." My heart skipped a beat. Sure enough, this old man knew the secret of the jade pendant!

"If you want to use it, you must first pass my test." A test?

I knew it wouldn't be that simple!

"What kind of test? Tell me quickly, I'm in a hurry." I suppressed my impatience.

"You must find the 'Nine-Star Linked Beads Grass' within a day," the old man said, uttering a name I had never heard before.

"What the heck? Nine-Star Alignment Grass? That name sounds so cringeworthy..." I couldn't help but complain. "Where can I find it?"

The old man pointed to a precipitous mountain peak outside the window: "It's on that Broken Soul Cliff."

Soul-breaking Cliff?

That place is notoriously dangerous; I've heard that even experienced hunters don't dare to approach it easily!

I turned to look at Gong Lin, whose brows were furrowed, clearly finding the matter troublesome as well.

Finding the Nine-Star Linked Grass growing on the Broken Soul Cliff in one day—this old man is clearly deliberately making things difficult for me!

"So? Little girl, will you take it or not?" The old man looked at me with a half-smile, a hint of cunning in his eyes.

I took a deep breath. "Come on!" Isn't it just the Cliff of Broken Souls?

I've already experienced rebirth, what's a cliff or steep slope to me?

"Good, you have guts!" A hint of admiration flashed in the old man's eyes, but it was so fleeting that I almost thought I was seeing things.

"Remember, this is only valid until sunset tomorrow. It won't be valid after that."

I cursed the old fox in my heart, but kept a straight face.

I turned to look at Gong Lin, and he gave me a firm look, as if to say: Don't be afraid, I'm here.

Hey, this guy is actually pretty reliable when it counts.

"Old man, what does this Nine-Star Linked Beads Grass look like? You can't expect me to search for a needle in a haystack, can you?" I didn't want to make a wasted trip.

The old man pulled a crumpled piece of paper from his pocket. On it was drawn a peculiar plant with star-shaped leaves and nine tiny red flowers blooming at the top.

"Here it is."

I took the blueprints and examined them carefully. This thing...

I've never seen anything like it before!

"Alright, let's go now." With that, Gong Lin and I turned and left the thatched hut, heading towards the direction of Broken Soul Cliff.

Broken Soul Cliff, as the name suggests, is a place that makes people lose their souls.

The mountain road is rugged and steep; a slight misstep could send you tumbling into the abyss.

Fortunately, I have the advantage of having space, so I still have some necessary climbing equipment.

Gong Lin and I worked together seamlessly, overcoming all obstacles, and finally reached the middle section of Broken Soul Cliff around noon.

Just then, we noticed a few people acting suspiciously not far ahead, seemingly searching for something as well.

"Hey you guys, what are you doing?" I shouted.

The men were startled and turned around, looking at us warily.

"What's it to you! Mind your own business!" one of the burly men with a fierce expression said menacingly.

I squinted and realized that what they were holding was exactly the same as the blueprints I had!

Ah, looks like they're competitors!

"Are you also here looking for the Nine-Star Linked Grass?"

The burly man sneered, "That's right! If you know what's good for you, get lost. This Broken Soul Cliff isn't a place for young lovers like you!"

I sneered. My sister has a lot of good stuff hidden in her space!

"It's not certain who will leave yet!"

I pulled a folding entrenching tool out of my storage space!

Hey, don't get me wrong, this isn't for fighting, even though it looks like a weapon.

In a place like Broken Soul Cliff, a handy tool is more important than anything else.

I raised an eyebrow at Gong Lin. "Gong Lin, it's up to you now!"

Gong Lin took the entrenching tool and quickly carved out several leverage points on the cliff face.

The burly men were dumbfounded; they probably never dreamed that an entrenching tool could be used in such a way.

"What are you standing there for? Planning to spend the night here?" I said sarcastically.

With Gong Lin leading the way, we quickly shook off that group of people.

It has to be said that Gong Lin's skills are truly amazing; he's practically a walking "human spider."

As I followed him up the mountain, I silently gave him a thumbs up in my mind: Wow, that's some serious boyfriend material!

During the climb, I unexpectedly discovered a loose rock. Out of curiosity, I gently pried it open with an entrenching tool and found a cave hidden behind it!

Inside the cave, besides a few shivering bats, there was also a tattered parchment scroll.

I carefully opened the parchment scroll, and what I found inside were some ancient recipes for herbs!

Among them is a detailed description of the nine-star string of pearl grass and its growing environment!

Wow, this luck is incredible! It's like being blessed by a lucky koi fish!

I showed the parchment scroll to Gong Lin, and a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes.

"Looks like we've hit the jackpot this time."

With the help of the parchment scroll, we quickly found the Nine-Star Linked Grass.

This thing was indeed peculiar in appearance, emitting a faint fluorescent glow that made it particularly conspicuous in the dimly lit cave.

I carefully picked it and placed it in a specially made storage box in the space.

Just as we were about to leave, Gong Lin slipped and fell downwards!

"Gong Lin!" I exclaimed, reaching out to grab him without thinking.

I gripped his wrist tightly, and the force of the impact sent a sharp pain through my arm.

I gritted my teeth and used all my strength to pull him up.

"Qing'er, let go! You'll be dragged down with me!" Gong Lin's voice was tinged with pain.

"Shut up! What nonsense are you talking about!" I roared. "Even if I die, I'll die with you!" I don't know where the strength came from, but I finally pulled him up.

We hugged each other tightly, and the joy of surviving the ordeal made us cherish each other even more.

I took out water and food from my storage space and had a quick energy replenishment with Miya Rin.

Then, we took the Nine-Star Linked Grass and returned to the mysterious old man's thatched hut.

"Old man, we found what you wanted!" I handed him the box containing the Nine-Star Linked Grass.

He opened the box, examined it carefully, and a satisfied smile appeared on his face.

"Not bad, not bad, it really is the Nine-Star Alignment Grass. Young people, your courage is commendable, I admire you."

I was overjoyed; it seemed the old man was finally going to keep his promise.

However, his next sentence made me feel as if I had fallen into an ice cave...

“However…” He paused, his eyes becoming deep, “I need you to do something for me.” “However…” The old man stroked his beard, which hadn’t been washed in who knows how long and was standing on end, and said slowly, “I need you to do something for me.”

I got angry right then and there!

Are you kidding me?

I risked my life to climb up the Cliff of Broken Souls, and almost died there. And you're telling me "no"?

"Old man, you're cheating! You didn't mention any other conditions before!" I glared at him. If it weren't for his age, I would have smeared that box of Nine-Star Linked Grass all over his face.

Rin frowned, emanating a cold aura; it was clear he was unhappy.

As expected of the man I've chosen, his presence is truly impressive!

The old man calmly took a sip of the tea, which he couldn't quite place. The taste... hmm...

Indescribable.

"Young lady, don't get so angry. The way this jade pendant is used is related to the future of your space, so I have to be careful."

"Caution? You call this caution? I think you're deliberately making things difficult for me!" I almost laughed out of anger at him.

I've figured it out; this old man is just a rascal, deliberately teasing us!

"Difficult? Young lady, you can't say that. I just wanted to test your sincerity." He looked at me with a smile, his eyes like those of someone looking at a lamb to the slaughter.

"Sincerity? Isn't my sincerity enough? I almost lost my life!" I pointed at myself, feeling like I was about to turn into a pufferfish from anger.

Rin held my hand and gave me a comforting look.

He took a step forward, his tone calm yet carrying an undeniable authority: "Senior, we have fulfilled your request as agreed, and we hope you will also keep your promise."

The old man glanced at Brother Lin, a hint of admiration flashing in his eyes.

“Young man, not bad, calm and collected, a promising talent.” He paused for a moment, finally stopping his beating around the bush, “Alright, since you are so sincere, then I will tell you how to use the jade pendant.”

He pulled an old-fashioned book from his pocket, turned to a page, pointed to a passage of obscure text, and said, "This is how to use the jade pendant. Figure it out yourselves."

I took the book, glanced at it, and immediately felt overwhelmed.

What is this writing?

It's even harder to understand than Martian language!

"Old man, are you sure you're not playing a trick on us?" I looked at him with suspicion.

The old man smiled mysteriously: "Believe it or not. However, I can give you a hint..."

He leaned close to our ears and whispered a few words.

My eyes widened in shock! So that's how it is!

"Alright, I've said what I needed to say. You'd better take care of yourselves." After saying that, the old man turned around and went into the house, leaving me and Brother Lin standing there, looking at each other in bewilderment.

I couldn't wait to put the jade pendant into my spatial storage as the old man had instructed...

Wait, something seems off!
