Rebirth with a Space to Counterattack and Abuse the Scumbag

Chapter 42 Deciphering the Clues: A Glimmer of Hope

Under the ultraviolet light, what appeared on the notebook was not the clear text we expected, but a bunch of symbols thinner than mosquito legs, densely packed, making me dizzy.

I rubbed my eyes and complained, "What is this? It's harder to understand than Martian language! The person who wrote this must be an alien!"

Gong Lin frowned, flipping through the notebook repeatedly, occasionally shining a flashlight from different angles, hoping to find something interesting.

We tried to trace the outlines lightly with a pencil, hoping to find some patterns, but it didn't work.

This thing looks like it's been treated with some kind of special potion; the writing is so blurry and illegible that you can't make out what it is at all.

We tried using a magnifying glass and even the military binoculars that Brother Lin always carried with him, but it was all in vain.

I slumped back in my chair, utterly defeated. "It's over, it's over! This lead has gone cold! I felt like we were just a tiny bit away from the truth, and now we're stuck here. This is killing me!" I even started imagining myself scratching my head and pounding my chest in frustration, just like a student who realizes they know nothing before the final exam.

Gong Lin also put down his notebook, his expression grave.

If this thing really can't be solved, then all our previous efforts will have been in vain.

The glimmer of hope that had been found was about to be extinguished.

The atmosphere froze for a moment, and a sense of despair filled the air.

Suddenly, Gong Lin stood up abruptly, a glint of shrewdness flashing in his eyes...

He grabbed my wrist. "Qingqing, come with me!" Gong Lin dragged me along as we ran, and I almost stumbled and fell flat on my face.

"Hey, hey, Gong Lin, slow down, slow down! Where are you taking me?" I complained breathlessly, feeling like my lungs were about to explode.

Gong Lin stopped and smiled mysteriously: "I'll take you to witness a miracle!" He pulled me into a dimly lit small room with only a table and an old-fashioned desk lamp.

"What miracle? A magic trick?" I rolled my eyes. This mysterious thing was making me feel uneasy.

Gong Lin ignored me and went straight to the table, fiddling with the desk lamp.

He removed the lampshade, adjusted the angle of the bulb, and then said to me mysteriously, "Qingqing, bring your notebook over and try it at this angle." Although I was full of doubts, I did as he said.

When I put the laptop under the light, a miracle really happened!

The originally blurry symbols began to gradually become clear, as if they had been enchanted!

I was so excited I almost jumped up, grabbing Gong Lin's arm: "Wow! Gong Lin, you're amazing! How did you come up with that?" Gong Lin raised an eyebrow smugly: "Hehe, I'm a battle-hardened veteran, what's a little trick like this! Back in the day..."

As soon as Gong Lin started boasting about his glorious deeds, I interrupted him: "Stop, stop, stop! Don't brag yet, quickly look at what's written!"

As more and more symbols became clear, we discovered that they were not a continuous string of text, but rather a collection of seemingly unrelated words and numbers: "coordinates," "latitude," "longitude," "37," "116," "code," "dawn," and so on.

I scratched my head. "What is all this stuff? It looks like a bunch of gibberish." Gong Lin also frowned. This information was so fragmented that piecing together a complete clue was harder than finding a needle in a haystack.

We racked our brains over these words and numbers, trying all sorts of permutations and combinations, but we still couldn't find a clue.

Silence fell in the room again, the atmosphere even more somber than before.

Just when I was about to give up, a sudden inspiration struck me, and I thought of something...

I suddenly looked up at Gong Lin: "Gong Lin, I might have something that can help!" My voice trembled with excitement.

Gong Lin's eyes lit up: "Give it a try!"

I slipped into the spatial dimension. I rushed straight to the bookshelf and began rummaging through it.

"Password...password...where is it?" I muttered to myself as I flipped through the pages, feeling like I was playing a real-life escape room game.

"Found it!" I exclaimed excitedly, holding a thick book in my hand with the title "Applied Cryptography" prominently displayed.

They flashed out of the space and quickly flipped through the pages together.

The book indeed recorded all sorts of code combinations, which dazzled me.

"Hey, Qingqing, look at this case. Doesn't it look a bit like the situation we've encountered?" Gong Lin said, pointing to a passage in the book.

I leaned closer to take a look and discovered that the password combination mentioned in this case was strikingly similar to the words and numbers on the notebook!

Wow! Gong Lin, you're amazing!

"Hehe, keep it low-key, I only know a little bit." Gong Lin said he was keeping it low-key, but his face was beaming with joy.

Following the ideas in the book, we began trying to crack the password on the notebook...

Time ticked by, and despite racking our brains and trying again and again, we still couldn't find the right answer.

The room was so quiet that only the sound of us turning pages and each other breathing could be heard.

"Sigh..." I sighed, feeling like I was about to give up.

"Don't be discouraged, Qingqing." Gong Lin gently patted my shoulder. "We can definitely do it."

His encouragement was like a warm current flowing into my heart, rekindling my hope.

I took a deep breath and continued my research.

Suddenly, a crucial detail flashed into my mind...

I suddenly looked up at Gong Lin and said excitedly, "Gong Lin, I've got it! The date on the notebook! Could it be the key?" I pointed to the date on the notebook that we had overlooked.

Gong Lin's eyes lit up, and he grabbed the notebook to examine it carefully.

"Oh right! How could I forget that! These dates... seem to be... some kind of encryption!"

Based on the encryption method in the book and the date, we made calculations, and the atmosphere was as tense as a fully drawn bowstring.

Time passed by, and the only sounds in the room were the scratching of pens on paper and our rapid breathing.

Suddenly, Gong Lin slammed his hand on the table: "It's done!" My heart skipped a beat, and I quickly went over to take a look.

Gong Lin wrote down an address on the paper, with a line of smaller print below it: "Warehouse of a certain pharmaceutical factory".

"A pharmaceutical factory warehouse? This place sounds eerie..." I rubbed my arms and felt a chill down my back.

"It seems we have to make a trip." Gong Lin's eyes sharpened, and a murderous aura spread out.

"Let's go!" I clenched my fist, feeling my blood boiling.

Based on the address, we drove overnight to a certain pharmaceutical factory.

The abandoned factory looked particularly eerie in the night, with vines climbing all over the dilapidated walls like menacing ghostly hands.

Gong Lin stopped the car and turned to look at me: "Qingqing, are you ready?" I took a deep breath and nodded: "Gong Lin, let's go together!"

We sneaked into the factory. The air was filled with a pungent smell of medicine, which made us very uncomfortable.

The surroundings were quiet, with only the soft sound of our footsteps echoing in the empty factory.

"Be careful, there's definitely something strange here," Gong Lin said in a low voice.

I nodded and followed closely behind Gong Lin, clutching a self-defense dagger I had taken from my spatial storage.

Suddenly, a chilly wind blew in from the depths of the corridor, and I felt the hairs on my body stand on end...

“Gong Lin…” I grabbed Gong Lin’s arm.
