Rebirth with a Space to Counterattack and Abuse the Scumbag
Chapter 104 Exploring the Tiger's Den: An Unexpected Twist
The voice on the other end of the phone was hoarse and deep, like sandpaper rubbing against metal, which was very uncomfortable.
“I know you want to know Zhou Cheng’s next plan…” He paused, and that brief pause was like a feather gently brushing against my nerves, raising goosebumps.
"Tonight, in room 1808 of the Brilliant Hotel."
The Brilliant Hotel, Zhou Cheng's headquarters.
1808, that must have been his old base.
Is this mysterious phone call a trap or an opportunity?
I squinted, my heart pounding, a thrilling urge to take risks raging within me.
I took a deep breath, suppressing my unease, and coldly replied, "I understand."
As night falls, the lights are on.
I changed into an inconspicuous black suit, put my hair up in a high bun, and looked smart and capable.
I didn't tell Gong Lin that this operation was too dangerous, and I didn't want him to be in danger.
The magnificent hotel was brightly lit, filled with elegantly dressed people, clinking glasses, and a scene of extravagance.
I moved through the crowd like a fish, approaching room 1808 discreetly.
The corridor was quiet, filled with a faint scent of perfume mixed with the smell of cigar tobacco, creating an inexplicable sense of oppression.
I walked to the door of room 1808, took a deep breath, and gently pushed the door open.
The room was filled with smoke and dimly lit. Several burly men sat around a round table, which was covered with bottles of liquor and ashtrays.
They spoke in hushed tones, their rough laughter occasionally echoing through the room.
My appearance immediately attracted their attention.
A pair of sharp eyes swept over me like searchlights, and I felt as if I were surrounded by wolves, a sense of tension rising within me.
"Who are you?" A burly man with a face full of scars stood up and blocked my way. His muscles bulged, like a wild beast ready to pounce.
“I am…” I was about to explain when another tall, thin man suddenly interrupted me, “No need to ask, she is Miao Qing!” His voice was sharp and shrill, full of hostility.
I had a bad feeling; it seemed my whereabouts had been exposed.
I looked around and saw that these people were all Zhou Cheng's confidants, each of them looking fierce and menacing. I was afraid that I was in grave danger today.
I forced myself to remain calm and looked at them coldly. "What do you want?"
"Hmph, of course we're here to teach you a lesson on behalf of our boss!" The burly man sneered and lunged at me, swinging his fist.
Several other burly men also rushed forward, trapping me in the center of the room with nowhere to retreat.
With a loud "bang!", the door to the room was violently kicked open...
A familiar voice rang out: "Stop!"
The moment the door was flung open, I saw Gong Lin's figure appear in the doorway. Backlit, he looked like a god descending to earth, exuding an awe-inspiring aura.
Several agile men followed behind him and quickly brought the situation under control.
"You've got some nerve, daring to touch her!" Gong Lin's voice was icy cold, devoid of any warmth, like an icicle in the dead of winter, chilling one to the bone.
I didn't expect him to come; I was surprised, but even more touched.
He must have sensed my intentions, which is why he secretly followed and protected me.
The burly men were clearly intimidated when they saw Gong Lin, but they still stubbornly said, "Young Master Gong, this is a private matter between us and Miao Qing. We hope you will not interfere."
Gong Lin sneered, "Personal grudges? Zhou Cheng's reach is far enough that he dares to touch my people!" As soon as he finished speaking, the man behind him pounced on the burly men like a cheetah, and subdued them to the ground in a few clean and swift moves.
In the chaos, Gong Lin grabbed my hand and rushed out of the room.
We followed the hotel's emergency exit down to the underground parking lot, where we finally breathed a sigh of relief.
He pulled me to a black sedan, opened the door, and let me get in first.
I got into the car, and he followed me in and started the car.
The car drove away from the hotel and disappeared into the night. I leaned back in my seat, still feeling lingering fear.
"Were you scared?" Gong Lin turned to look at me, her tone gentle.
I shook my head. "Luckily, you arrived just in time."
He reached out and pulled me into his arms, holding me tightly.
I leaned against his chest, listening to his strong heartbeat, and a sense of security I had never felt before enveloped me.
"You're not allowed to do such dangerous things again." His voice was low and hoarse, with a hint of reproach.
I softly hummed in agreement, closed my eyes, and savored this moment of tranquility.
As the car sped through the night, I felt as if I were floating on clouds, light and airy, yet incredibly grounded.
Suddenly, Gong Lin slammed on the brakes, and the car came to a screeching halt. I almost crashed into the windshield.
"We have to go back."
"Go back? Back to the hotel?" he asked, puzzled.
I shook my head, a meaningful smile playing on my lips. "No, to Zhou Cheng's company." The car executed a graceful drift, turning around and speeding towards the Zhou Cheng company building.
I turned to look at Gong Lin. He had his lips tightly pressed together, his eyes sharp as a hawk's, and he was focused intently on the road ahead.
"Are you really going?" His deep voice broke the silence in the car.
"Of course." I said firmly, my eyes gleaming with an undeniable light. "If we leave now, wouldn't all our efforts be in vain? We finally found a breakthrough, and I will never give up easily."
He gave me a deep look, said nothing more, and then stepped on the gas, increasing the car's speed by another gear.
I know he's worried about me, but he also understands my personality; once I've made up my mind, I'll never easily change it.
Half an hour later, we arrived at Zhoucheng Company Building.
In the dead of night, the entire building was shrouded in darkness, with only a few emergency lights casting a dim yellow glow, making it appear particularly desolate.
We skillfully avoided all the surveillance cameras and sneaked into Zhou Cheng's office.
A faint smell of tobacco, mixed with the scents of leather and paper, filled the air—a unique aroma belonging to Zhoucheng.
I turned on the computer, skillfully cracked the password, and pulled up Zhou Cheng's secret files.
As lines of cold text came into view, my heart suddenly raced and my breathing became rapid.
These documents detail Zhou Cheng's next plan: he not only intends to continue smearing me, but also to completely destroy my company and even target the people around me!
My hands were clenched into fists, my nails digging deep into my flesh, but I felt no pain at all.
A surge of anger burned in my chest, threatening to consume me.
I forced myself to calm down and quickly wrote down this information.
My eyes gleamed with excitement, like a hunter spotting his prey, or a gambler seeing a glimmer of hope for a comeback.
"Found it!" I exclaimed softly, my voice brimming with barely concealed excitement.
Gong Lin walked to my side, looking at the content on the computer screen with a furrowed brow.
“It seems we underestimated Zhou Cheng’s ambition.” His voice was low and hoarse, carrying a hint of danger.
I nodded, my eyes resolute. "It's time to fight back."
Suddenly, a faint sound of footsteps came from outside the door, growing closer and clearer.
I slammed the computer shut, grabbed Gong Lin's hand, and hid in the shadows behind the desk.
"Someone's coming..." I said in a low voice, nervously.
Gong Lin put her index finger to her lips, signaling me to keep quiet.
The footsteps grew closer and closer, finally stopping at the office door.
The doorknob turned gently, making a soft "click" sound...
The door opened, and a figure darted in.
In the dim light, I recognized the person who came—it was Zhou Cheng!
Why is he here?
Did he discover something?
My heart sank, and fine beads of sweat appeared on my palms.
Zhou Cheng walked straight to his desk, opened a drawer, and started rummaging through something.
His movements were hurried, as if he were searching for something important.
I held my breath and dared not move, for fear of being discovered by him.
Gong Lin held my hand tightly, conveying a sense of strength to me.
Suddenly, Zhou Cheng stopped what he was doing. He looked up, his gaze sweeping across every corner of the office, finally landing on the desk where we were hiding.
My heart almost stopped, and a chill ran from the soles of my feet to the top of my head.
"Come out, I know you're here." Zhou Cheng's voice was low and hoarse, with a hint of mockery.
I took a deep breath and pulled Gong Lin into the space. Zhou Cheng fired several times, but no one came out. After searching carefully for a while without success, he left the office.
An hour after he left, Gong Lin and I returned to the car the way we came, and then went back to my office.
I studied Zhou Cheng's plan carefully, and suddenly my gaze fell on an inconspicuous detail in the plan.
My heart suddenly raced, and a bold idea popped into my head.
I pointed to a spot on the computer screen and said to Gong Lin, "Look here..."
