After returning to the capital to farm, the abandoned concubine made a comeback.

Chapter 3 Cultivating the Land and Striving for Strength

Pushing open the rickety wooden door, a musty smell hits you.

A light rain last night made the already dilapidated thatched hut even more damp, and the roof was even leaking.

Lin Qin smiled wryly. This start was truly hellish!

She had to grow food as soon as possible to improve her life, and at least prevent the roof from leaking and getting wet for her lovely baby.

The next morning, Lin Qin took a hoe and went to the plot of land that had been allocated to her.

The land was hard and barren, overgrown with weeds, and looked like it hadn't been cultivated for a long time.

The surrounding villagers stood on the edge of the field, pointing and whispering about her.

"Look, that abandoned concubine is making a mess of things again." A woman dressed in coarse linen clothes curled her lip. "A woman, can she farm well? I think she's just putting on an act."

“Exactly, I wonder how long she can hold out,” another villager chimed in. “If the land isn’t cultivated well by then, she’ll have to beg us for help.”

Lin Qin ignored her and continued to till the land with her hoe.

Although she had never done farm work, she was still a modern person and much stronger than women in ancient times. In addition, her body was young and strong, and she turned over a small piece of land in no time.

"Oh, you're really going to do this?" A man with a pointed face and monkey-like cheeks walked over. It was Li Ergou, who had previously made things difficult for Lin Qin at the grain store. "I advise you not to bother. This land has been abandoned for many years and not a blade of grass grows on it. You can work yourself to death and still not grow anything."

Lin Qin straightened up, wiped the sweat from her forehead, and looked at him with a half-smile: "Li Ergou, are you worried that if I grow grain, I'll steal your business?"

Li Ergou's expression changed: "What nonsense are you talking about! I was just trying to kindly remind you."

"Kindly reminding me?" Lin Qin sneered. "I think you're just hoping I'll fail, aren't you?" She ignored him and continued swinging the hoe, her movements even more powerful than before.

As the sun rose higher, Lin Qin's forehead was covered in sweat, but she did not stop what she was doing.

She knew that only by growing food could she survive in this unfamiliar era.

While farming, she recalled the agricultural programs she had seen in modern society and applied modern farming techniques to her work.

She first carefully raked the turned soil flat, then dug shallow furrows, evenly scattered the seeds in the furrows, covered them with a thin layer of soil, and finally watered them.

The surrounding villagers were dumbfounded; they had never seen such a way of farming before.

"Will this... will this work?" a villager muttered under his breath.

"Who knows? I've never seen farming like this before," another villager said, shaking his head.

Lin Qin ignored their comments. She believed that as long as the method was right, she would definitely be able to grow good crops.

By evening, Lin Qin had finally finished cultivating all the land.

She was exhausted and her back ached, but looking at the land she had cultivated with her own hands, her heart was filled with hope.

"Tomorrow, I'll go buy some fertilizer," Lin Qin muttered to herself. "I refuse to believe I can't grow crops!"

Suddenly, a voice came from behind: "What are you doing?"

Lin Qin turned around and saw a tall and upright figure standing on the edge of the field, backlit by the setting sun, so she couldn't see his face, but the cold aura emanating from him made her heart tremble.

"Your Highness?" Lin Qin asked tentatively.

The person who arrived was Zhu Ling. What was he doing here?

Zhu Ling didn't answer, but walked straight up to Lin Qin, his gaze falling on her muddy hands and sweaty clothes, his brows furrowing slightly: "What are you doing?"

"Farming," Lin Qin said casually, patting the dirt off her hands. "We can't just sit around and do nothing."

A complex emotion flashed in Zhu Ling's eyes. He looked at the seemingly weak but actually resilient woman in front of him, and his heart was filled with mixed feelings.

He impulsively married her, but then banished her to this place for various reasons.

When we met again, she displayed a vitality completely different from before.

"Why should a princess like you do such menial work?" Zhu Ling's voice was low, carrying a hint of barely perceptible concern.

Lin Qin raised an eyebrow: "Princess Consort? Your Highness seems to have forgotten that I am already a discarded concubine."

Zhu Ling's expression changed slightly, but she did not refute it.

At this moment, Li Ergou, who was hiding in the shadows, saw Zhu Ling appear and was secretly delighted. He felt that this was a good opportunity to take revenge on Lin Qin.

While the two were talking, he secretly slipped into Lin Qin's field and buried the stones he had prepared beforehand.

"Hmph, let's see how you manage to farm now!" Li Ergou thought to himself with smug satisfaction.

Lin Qin and Zhu Ling's conversation continued when suddenly, as if sensing something, Lin Qin abruptly turned her head to look at her field, her gaze sharp as a knife.

"Who is there!"

Li Ergou was startled and quickly hid.

Lin Qin walked to the edge of the field, squatted down, and examined it carefully.

Soon, she found several stones in the soil.

"Li Ergou, this is what you did, isn't it?" Lin Qin's voice was icy, with a hint of anger.

Li Ergou, who was hiding in the shadows, trembled with fright when he heard Lin Qin call out his name.

He didn't expect Lin Qin to find out so quickly.

Lin Qin ignored Li Ergou who was hiding. She sneered and picked up all the stones from the ground.

"Trying to harm me? You're still too green!"

Lin Qin was not angry. Instead, she cleverly piled the stones together to form a simple drainage system.

"This..." The surrounding villagers were stunned by what they saw.

They never expected that Lin Qin could turn waste into treasure and make use of the stones.

Even Zhu Ling was somewhat surprised. He looked at Lin Qin's busy figure and a hint of admiration flashed in his eyes.

Li Ergou was dumbfounded. He originally wanted to harm Lin Qin, but unexpectedly he helped her instead.

Lin Qin patted the dirt off her hands, stood up, and a confident smile appeared on her lips.

"He has a small skill, but he still dares to do the same thing."

She turned to look at Zhu Ling, her tone slightly provocative: "Your Highness, is there anything else?"

Lin Qin ignored Zhu Ling and turned to walk towards the edge of the field, taking out a packet of seeds from her pocket.

The villagers who had been watching the commotion began to whisper among themselves again. They recognized the seeds as the "useless seeds" that Lin Qin had bought at the grain store a few days ago and were all waiting to see her make a fool of herself.

"Has this abandoned concubine gone mad? She's really going to use this worthless seed to conceive?"

"Exactly, Li Ergou already said these seeds won't grow, and she still..."

Lin Qin curled her lips into a cold smile. Following her memory of modern agricultural knowledge, she first divided the land into small squares, then dug a small hole in the center of each square, carefully placed the seeds in, covered them with soil, and gently pressed it down.

She did every step meticulously, as if she were treating a precious work of art.

The villagers were stunned. "This...this is different from how her parents farm!"

"That's right! With such sparse planting, it's no wonder nothing can grow!"

Lin Qin ignored him and continued with her work.

She knew that modern agriculture emphasizes scientific planting, and that proper spacing and depth are essential for crops to grow better.

After planting the seeds, Lin Qin poured some water from the water bag she had brought and watered each small square.

The water she used was also specially made, with some nutrient solution exchanged from the system added to promote seed germination.

After finishing all this, Lin Qin patted the dirt off her hands and nodded in satisfaction.

"Just wait and see, these seeds will sprout in a few days."

Li Ergou hid behind the crowd, watching Lin Qin's every move, his heart burning with jealousy.

He originally wanted to see Lin Qin make a fool of herself, but he didn't expect her to actually plant the seed, and she even seemed to do it in a very methodical way.

The more he thought about it, the more unwilling he became. Taking advantage of the fact that no one was paying attention, he secretly slipped to the edge of Lin Qin's field, intending to cause trouble.

He was about to reach out and pull out a few seedlings when he suddenly heard a voice behind him:

"Li Ergou, what are you doing now?!"

Caught red-handed, Li Ergou trembled with fear and stammered, "I...I...I was just looking..."

Lin Qin sneered, "Look? I think you're trying to cause trouble!" She deliberately raised her voice, and the surrounding villagers heard it and gathered around.

"Li Ergou, what evil deed are you planning to do now?" a villager shouted, pointing his finger at Li Ergou's nose. "You cheated Lin Niangzi at the grain store before, and now you want to ruin her crops. Have you lost your conscience?"

“That’s right, Li Ergou, you’re such a bad person!” another villager chimed in.

The villagers all started criticizing Li Ergou.

They had long disapproved of Li Ergou's behavior, and now that they had the chance, they naturally wanted to teach him a lesson.

Surrounded by the crowd, Li Ergou was filled with shame and wished he could disappear into the ground.

He stammered and couldn't get a word out, so he could only slink away.

Lin Qin watched Li Ergou's retreating figure, a smug smile curling at the corner of her lips.

She knew that in this era, the will of the people was the most important thing.

She cleverly exploited the villagers' dissatisfaction with Li Ergou and successfully defused the crisis.

"Thank you all for your help, fellow villagers." Lin Qin bowed to the villagers in gratitude. "I will definitely farm hard in the future and not let you down."

The villagers expressed their support, hoping that Lin Qin would succeed. After all, a self-reliant abandoned concubine was much better than a lazy and good-for-nothing one.

After seeing the villagers off, Lin Qin returned to the fields and continued her work.

She knew that there would be many challenges ahead, but she was not afraid.

With the support of modern agricultural knowledge and systematic assistance, she believes she can overcome all difficulties and ultimately achieve her goals.

As the sun sets, the sunset dyes half the sky red.

Looking at the land she had cultivated with her own hands, Lin Qin's heart was filled with hope.

She seemed to see a golden wheat field, swaying gently in the breeze...

"Your Highness, why are you still here?"
