Chapter 94 Freshmen at St. Louis College (1)
The smog over the city obscured the believers' view of the sun, but it did not prevent it from shining its light and warmth upon the earth.
The early autumn temperature hadn't completely cooled down yet, seemingly trying to stir up trouble on the tail end of summer. Lin Yuanran spent two copper coins to make his first trip to the central district, to the academy that countless citizens of the principality dreamed of.
The carriage stop was right in front of St. Louis College. Today, even the wind at the college was noisy, with people coming and going at the entrance, and the priests' cavalry, who had dismounted, were maintaining order.
Using papal cavalry as a symbol of prestige is a privilege not even afforded to the seven grand dukes, highlighting the immense importance of St. Louis to the Papacy.
The school gate consisted of three arches, with two side gates that were usually closed, but today was an exception. Lin Yuanran stepped forward and suddenly froze, because there was a special registration room at the entrance. The staff dared not let anyone in casually. His teacher-student relationship with Cassius was known only to each other, and at most a few classmates. How could he prove it?
Lin Yuanran muttered, "They didn't even send me a token or anything..."
Cassius was clearly not an unreliable person; a sweet-looking girl had been waiting for him for a long time next to the registration room.
When Sabrina saw him arrive, she waved and greeted him, "Over here."
The two had met once before. Lin Yuanran walked up to him, and then the class monitor led the way into the courtyard.
“Your teacher is unavailable right now, so I’ll show you around and teach you the basics of studying and living in St. Louis,” Sabrina said.
"Thank you..." Lin Yuanran thought to himself, "Will I be left to my own devices by the teacher from now on?"
"Let's go to your dorm first."
It has to be said that St. Louis College is really big. It took the two of them nearly twenty minutes to reach their destination, even at a normal pace.
“Over there,” Sabrina said, pointing to a row of brown-domed buildings in front of her.
This is a boys' dormitory building. Suddenly, a beautiful girl appeared, which was bound to attract attention. Many eyes were cast over, making Lin Yuanran very uncomfortable.
Sabrina was already used to it and didn't take it seriously, leading the way on her own.
The two entered through a side door, climbed two floors, and finally stopped on the third floor.
crunch.
The door, made of some unknown type of wood, made a soft sound, followed by a loud shout.
"Couldn't you knock first?!"
Lin Yuanran looked over and saw a burly man hugging a blanket on the white-painted wooden bed. His face showed embarrassment mixed with anger and a tiny bit of shyness...
It was Hauglis.
Sabrina didn't mind and sat down on the bed near the door, which was Mirashu's spot, but he wasn't there.
"Even if you stood naked in front of me, I wouldn't be interested in you at all," the class monitor retorted, having seen it all.
Hauglis saw Lin Yuanran and smiled, "See? You better watch out, she'll give you a hard time."
Lin Yuanran smiled in agreement, neither confirming nor denying.
Sabrina continued, "Is it alright to let him sleep in Lü Jianming's bed?"
Dormitories in St. Louis are assigned by class. Of course, His Highness the Crown Prince of Great Chu also lives here. However, since his family is wealthy, the dormitory is just for show, and he doesn't even look at it normally.
The same applies to Sabrina and Wind Chime, which allowed Paninger to get a great deal by staying in a room by himself.
Actually, when the school was first established, the management considered whether to provide each student with a separate room, but this was ultimately rejected. The reason was not due to financial constraints, but rather because each class was a team, and living together would deepen mutual trust and make management easier.
“I’m afraid that won’t work,” Hauglis said.
Lin Yuanran glanced around and found that there were only four beds: Allen, Fwayne, Mirashu, and Hoglius who was lying down. Wait, where are Lü Jianming and "Armored Turtle" Upton?
Sabrina also noticed the problem: "Upton lived at home from the beginning, so I can understand why his bed was canceled. Even if Lü Jianming lived outside, there should still be a place for him in the dormitory, right?"
Hauglis explained, "Six months ago, a bed in a dormitory on the second floor broke. The dormitory manager knew there was a vacant spot here, so he requisitioned it and hasn't returned it yet."
Sabrina frowned: "This kind of thing should be reported to the school leaders and they should handle it."
“Who knows?” Hauglis shrugged, the thin sheet in front of him slipped down, and he immediately covered it back up. “Just trying to save trouble.”
“I’m going to find him,” Sabrina said indignantly.
"Good luck, so... can you hurry up and leave?"
"You really want me to leave?"
"Of course! Your presence makes me feel very uncomfortable, especially when I'm not wearing clothes. But if you don't mind, I'll just crawl out."
Sabrina stopped arguing with him, got up and walked towards the door, calling out to Lin Yuanran, "Let's go find the dormitory manager."
"Oh!" Lin Yuanran quickly followed.
The dormitory manager's office is on the first floor.
Inside the room, after listening to Sabrina's questioning, the old dormitory supervisor said with a forced smile, "There's nothing I can do. I reported it to the school leaders, and they told me to solve it myself. I had no choice but to rob Peter to pay Paul."
Sabrina sighed. The problem wasn't that big of a deal. The leader probably just had nothing better to do than look at things, so he figured he might as well put them to use. In a way, there wasn't anything wrong with it.
But now, Ario has nowhere to live.
Normally, each year's freshmen would form a new class, which would be taken care of by the mentors of the graduating students. Lin Yuanran should have been treated the same way, but he was specifically chosen by Cassius, so his treatment was naturally different.
Lin Yuanran was the first one to run into trouble by using connections.
“The dormitory for Class 29 isn’t very big. It would be too crowded if one more person lived there. How about I arrange another place for him?” the dormitory supervisor asked tentatively.
“How can that be?” Sabrina wanted to object.
Lin Yuanran then asked, "Where?"
The original four-person room became a five-person room after he joined, which was indeed a bit crowded.
The old dormitory supervisor continued, "You know those strange ghosts who watch over the library at our school, right?"
Sabrina nodded, while Lin Yuanran shook his head.
"He currently lives alone, the room is empty, and as a spirit, he hardly needs to sleep, spending most of his time in the library, so..."
"That's pretty good," Lin Yuanran said. "Doesn't that mean I'm living alone?"
Seeing the joy on his face, Sabrina didn't say much. If she insisted on opposing it, it would be like the emperor not being worried but the eunuch being anxious.
"Right?" The old dormitory supervisor chuckled. "If you're willing, I'll take you to see it. I'll let that weirdo know later."
"I'm OK."
"Should we go take a look now?"
“No rush.” Sabrina declined Lin Yuanran’s suggestion on his behalf. “I want to show him around first and let him understand the academy’s operating rules.”
"Where to next?" Lin Yuanran asked.
"Training ground."
