Firefly Journey

Chapter 55 Farewell (1)

Torreg town.

Piero went to the stable, gently stroked the horses, and then added hay.

The two mixed-breed horses were eating with great relish when Piero squatted down. From the ground next to him, a little mud figure emerged.

Piero touched the clay figure, absorbed all its information, said something to it, then pressed its head down and forcibly shoved it back under.

The mudman burrowed underground and, instead of immediately returning to the Yedeen Mountains, went to a townhouse where the Butcher Brothers, having completed their mission, were quietly waiting for Cassius to contact them.

"He truly cares deeply about the country and its people, but unfortunately, the Vatican is stubbornly refusing to budge. It seems I'll have to break my promise."

He chuckled self-deprecatingly and shrugged: "Anyway, I'm a 'fraudster,' so it's normal for me to fool someone. Besides, it's the Vatican that's being unfair, not giving me any face at all..."

Suddenly, Piero stood up and looked up at the blue sky above. A vulture was circling overhead.

The vulture had a strange appearance, its body shrouded in an eerie white. It descended slowly, and its features could only be discerned when it got close.

The white color is not feathers, but bones. This bird has no skin or flesh, only a skeleton. Amazingly, it moves around like an ordinary bird in this state.

Piero reached out his hand, and the bone bird hovered on his shoulder. Just as he had communicated with the clay figure before, he quickly understood the message the bone bird brought.

After completing its mission, the white-boned bird flapped its wings and flew away into the distance, quickly disappearing into the horizon.

Piero bowed respectfully, his head slightly lowered.

"Should I continue playing the role of a businessman for a while longer...?"

As he muttered to himself, the two mixed-breed horses secretly raised their heads, seemingly wondering why their master seemed a little different than before.

……

……

The entrance to the Divine Ruins in the Yedeen Mountains.

Cassius sat suspended on the treetop with his legs dangling naturally, and the little clay figure had already jumped onto his shoulder.

He was carefully analyzing the information about the butcher brothers and the "fraudster".

Upon entering the town, he had been keeping an eye on Curry Ward's movements, and after the murder broke out, he deliberately told him not to report it.

In the administrative model of a principality, if a problem arises that cannot be resolved within its jurisdiction, the first choice should be to report it. However, it is unreasonable that Curry did not report it based solely on Cassius's statement.

Because if things are allowed to escalate, how can a small town mayor take responsibility?

Therefore, whether considering his official position or the safety of the people under his jurisdiction, Curry Ward's actions were inherently unreasonable.

Following the trail, Cassius indeed found a clue, but he remained calm and quietly laid a trap while all the extraordinary beings entered the Yedeen Mountains. The Butcher Brothers, such insignificant figures, were deliberately concealed and thus went unnoticed.

Then, taking advantage of Curry Ward's moment of relaxation, he delivered a fatal blow, thus enabling the search for his secrets and those of the organization behind him.

Of course, that unknown evil god who was causing trouble was careful and unlikely to leave any evidence. His usual contact with Curry Ward was probably also very secretive.

Having the orc brothers search his house might not yield any clues.

Surprisingly, they actually found some clues for the two brothers.

Curry Ward had no wife or children, and only a few hired servants in his household. They knew nothing about his family and could not provide any useful clues.

The orc brothers hadn't expected their servants to be of any help. After searching the house thoroughly, they finally found a piece of paper hidden in a drawer of Curry's bedside table.

The paper was currently in Cassius's hand.

Besides serving as messengers, the clay figurines also have a transportation function, but with strict limitations: the transported items cannot be too heavy or too large.

Unfold the paper and hold it up to the sunlight; a strange pattern immediately appeared before Cassius's eyes.

Insects drawn in simple line drawings.

In terms of appearance, it looks a lot like a cicada.

Cassius searched his mind for information about the heretics and the Forgotten Ones of the Cicadas, but to no avail; this was his first encounter with this organization.

There was no point in looking any further, so Cassius put away the paper and jumped down.

The gate to the Divine Ruins suddenly moved, and three figures returned from within.

Feeling the fresh air and the fragrance of flowers, Lin Yuanran felt alive again, and even his expression became much more relaxed.

Feng Ling seemed to have a similar feeling; her cool facial features softened, and she had a faint smile on her face. Lin Yuanran thought so.

The most composed was the swordsman with two swords at his waist. His expression remained calm and undisturbed. Upon seeing Cassius, he subconsciously moved his lips but said nothing.

Cassius Bello ignored him, adopting the amiable demeanor of an elder, and said to the two students, "It's good that you're out. Did you gain anything?"

Fengling said, "If this experience can help me in the future, then I think it will be worthwhile."

Cassius Bello raised an eyebrow: "So that means there isn't any."

Feng Ling said no more, but Lin Yuanran continued, "I was very lucky to get it..."

The key, mask, and book all looked like pretty good extraordinary items, but Feng Ling probably had a lot of things of this level, and it seemed she didn't take a single one when she was in the "storage room".

Dislike? Lin Yuanran couldn't think of any other reason.

Cassius listened patiently until Lin Yuanran finished speaking, then showed a satisfied and affirmative expression. He didn't ask about the uses of the extraordinary items, not wanting his student to think he was being long-winded.

"The whereabouts of the superhuman who disappeared in the Crystal Cave have been found."

Cassius, who had just received a reply from Elilo, learned the inside story: he was the one who orchestrated the transfer and teleportation of the main force.

The original intention was to weed out the weaker superhumans, eliminating them from the competition and avoiding unnecessary trouble.

At this moment, they were far away from Torreg, packing their bags to go home.

Cassius speculated that this action was related to Ario.

Because one of the terms of his deal with Erillo was to make him a superhuman, and Cassius went all out, not just guiding him into the field, but treating him as a student.

Cassius didn't ask further, and he believed the other party wouldn't tell him even if he did. In short, Eriello's aim remained fixed on Ario, and whether this was for the better or worse remained to be seen.

"There is no danger to his life, and he has been arranged to go home."

Upon hearing this, Feng Ling and Lin Yuanran couldn't say they were overjoyed, since they were just strangers who had no prior connection. However, with so many extraordinary individuals and so many lives at stake, being alive was always better than being dead, which eased their mood considerably.

"Before I go back to Torreg, you guys come with me to see some fun."

The excitement Cassius Bello referred to was the mobilization of leaders from various factions to jointly besiege the giant on the mountaintop.

It's beneficial to watch a battle of that level.

Without waiting for their consent, Cassius conjured a whirlwind and dragged them away into the distance.

Orlando watched the three figures of the teacher and student walk away and suddenly chuckled softly. Since he came out, Cassius hadn't spoken a word to him, but Orlando didn't feel annoyed by being ignored; on the contrary, he was rather happy.

Being watched by the great and wise teacher is not a good thing.

After glancing at the collapsed entrance to the Divine Ruins due to lack of energy intake, Orlando began his descent, returning to the Colombot Mountains to report back.
