Firefly Journey
Chapter 52 The Cage (4)
A lazy morning breeze swept across the mountains, rustling the leaves.
While everyone else rested, only the Frost Troll McCauley stubbornly stood still.
When Woolf opened her eyes, her gaze narrowed slightly, a hint of disbelief flashing in them.
Trolls mostly live in the harsh climate of the Wastelands. For example, the Frost Trolls, to which McCauley belongs, roam the northern tundra of the Duchy and the Debasa Empire year-round.
Trolls are physically stronger than humans, and their long-term tempering in the harsh environment has given them incredibly strong bodies.
Woolf hadn't expected that Macaulay would be able to withstand the special fog with his body alone.
But it didn't matter. Woolf noticed that even though Macaulay could still stand, he was already starting to lose his mind, like he was drunk and kept getting confused.
After looking around, Woolf stood up and chose his target.
The first person to be operated on was neither Lumer nor Jonathan, but Macaulay, who still retained some semblance of rationality.
He was absolutely confident in the fog; as long as he eliminated the potentially recoverable Macaulay, the rest of them would be nothing more than fish on a chopping board, at his mercy.
What good is a high level of attainment?
Just close your eyes and wait to die while you're unconscious!
In the morning light, Woolf's robes began to change; the black fabric darkened, and several lines slowly emerged.
Exactly the same as Ram Rachel.
It seems they're in cahoots.
Woolf took a step closer to the dazed-looking Macaulay, walking slowly, leisurely like a retired old cadre.
As they walked, the devilish patterns gradually took shape, converging into a black and red eye.
When he reached Macaulay, the Devil's Eye suddenly opened, emitting a powerful suction force, like a whirlpool of silt, threatening to engulf Macaulay.
“You lowly ant, become nourishment for my lord; this is your only value.”
Woolf gave a silent, grotesque laugh, her face contorted with wrinkles, her once-amiable features twisted drastically, becoming as ugly as could be.
An irresistible force descended, gripping Macaulay's body tightly. In an instant, his fanged head twisted as if it would shatter into pieces at any moment.
At that moment, the old mage Woolf's expression suddenly changed, a look of horror flashed in his eyes, and he took seven or eight steps back.
As he stepped back, his dark red eyes closed, their outlines visibly darkening until they disappeared completely.
Macaulay suddenly awoke, his eyes clear, and he had regained consciousness.
Beside him stood the refined and easy-going Cassius Bello, his white coat swaying in the wind, exuding composure.
“Red eyes, let me think.” Cassius said slowly, taking steps closer to Woolf. “A part of a monster? It seems you are the ‘Forgotten Ones’.”
At this moment, Cassius had already closed in on Woolf.
Woolf showed no intention of turning away, for it was pointless. With a serious expression, he said, "It seems I underestimated you for not being trapped by the mountain giant."
As an outsider, he naturally knew who was in charge here, so when he first formulated the action plan, he included Cassius in the calculations.
The original plan was that the corrupted mountaintop giant would be enough to hold them off, since it was a demigod-level powerhouse and there was no reason for them to fail.
The plan was excellent, and the initial phase was very successful. The mountaintop giant, who was completely unprepared, was easily controlled and turned into a mindless tool.
What they didn't expect was that Cassius Bello, as a third-level awakener, was not at a disadvantage against a demigod, and even easily broke free from the restraints, which was quite terrifying.
“It’s just a small trick, nothing to mention. Tell me, who sent you here, and which organization do you belong to?” Cassius asked with interest.
He can now make some basic judgments.
First of all, the Devil's Eye is definitely a demonic organ of a "Forgotten One," and at a high level.
Secondly, the Woolf before him shouldn't be considered a true "Forgotten One." The most effective method for a "Forgotten One" is to reveal their demonic nature, which Woolf hasn't demonstrated.
This shows that he was also a pitiful creature corrupted by the master of the Devil's Eye, essentially no different from the mountain giant.
Because he had been corrupted for longer and his condition was more severe, he was able to summon the Devil's Eye to possess him, thus using a portion of the power of the demon's organs. The method he used to devour McCauley was the part he could use.
Woolf snorted, seemingly mocking Cassius. "You think I'll just confess if you tell me to? I'm the kind of person who confesses when I can't win a fight."
Whimsical!
"It's okay if you don't tell me, I will find the answers in your body."
Upon hearing this, Woolf's lips twitched, indicating that he was not as tough as he appeared, and instinctively felt fear.
Upon awakening, Macaulay seemed to retain his memories. He approached Cassius and respectfully asked, "Your Excellency, do you need any help?"
Cassius didn't even glance at him: "No need, go wake up Lumer and the others."
"Ok."
Behind Cassius's back, which he could not see, Macaulay did not follow orders but silently continued toward Cassius.
Strange patterns formed by condensed magical power began to appear on his white skin, and they were about to take shape!
Swish!
In the blink of an eye, Cassius Bello dodged a heavy blow, and Macaulay, whose club missed its mark, sighed in disappointment.
"Almost."
“It’s still a long way off,” Cassius said with a smile.
……
……
How much longer until we can get out?
"I don't know."
"Then you tell me to lead the way..."
"I never said I was taking a route that would lead out of the city."
Lin Yuanran fell silent; he had indeed never said that.
In the dimly lit passage, the three people walked slowly, the road ahead gloomy and seemingly endless.
"Where are we going?" Wind Chime asked in a different way.
“Good question. Go get something,” Orlando said.
"Didn't you get it?"
Lin Yuanran remembered correctly; with his red lips and white teeth, Orlando said he had obtained the employer's things.
"Something else."
"Others?" Wind Chime frowned.
Orlando slowed his pace: "It's a relic of a true god, after all. Even if it's not of high status, it still has some good things."
“Good stuff…” Lin Yuanran murmured to himself, “There used to be a collection room with a lot of good stuff in there.”
Orlando glanced at the mask and book clipped to his waist and said in a drawn-out tone, "The mask is indeed a good thing, but I suspect it didn't come from the collection room you mentioned, but from the 'bedroom' just now."
Lin Yuanran nodded: "You have excellent insight."
Orlando suddenly stopped. "We're here."
Lin Yuanran and Feng Ling exchanged a glance and stopped walking.
