Firefly Journey

Chapter 368 The Wind Chimes of Green Gables (2)

Not only Lin Yuanran couldn't sleep, tossing and turning, but Feng Ling was too. Indeed, relationships involve two people; neither can be absent. If one person can't sleep, how can the other get some rest?

In the latter half of the night, Fengling couldn't withstand the physiological pressure and slowly fell asleep. When she woke up, she heard rustling noises outside.

She rubbed her eyes and walked out with a bare face.

The commotion was coming from the kitchen.

Seeing the sleepy-eyed Feng Ling, Lin Yuanran was in a good mood and smiled, "You're up."

Wind Chime asked groggily, "What time is it?"

Lin Yuanran replied, "I started cooking at 11 o'clock, so half an hour should have passed by now."

Fengling wanted to take out her phone to check, but realized she had forgotten to take it when she came out, so she had to go back to her room.

Looking at the time, I realized it was already past noon.

Fengling returned to the kitchen, smelling the aroma filling the house, a playful glint in her eyes.

"Stewed mutton with potatoes...what about fish?" Wind Chime asked.

Lin Yuanran put down his work, moved closer to her, and said, "The fish is in the refrigerator. I plan to cook it tonight. By the way, how would you like it cooked?"

There are too many ways to cook fish, and Lin Yuanran is not omnipotent. However, he has always been good at learning. As long as Fengling asks, he will try his best to get it, even if it is cold fish mixed with dragon meat, provided that Paninger does not mind.

Speaking of which, Fengling's learning ability is stronger than his. What would it be like if she were the one to cook?

To his shame, after knowing her for so long, Lin Yuanran still didn't know if she could cook. He figured that young ladies from wealthy families didn't have to do things themselves, so she probably hadn't learned.

"What are you thinking about?" Fengling nudged his arm with her elbow when she saw him lost in thought.

"It's nothing." Lin Yuanran snapped out of his thoughts. "I was just asking you what kind of fish you wanted cooked."

Wind Chime frowned: "Didn't I already say that once? Were you even listening?"

"No."

Lin Yuanran's answer was honest, and honesty has always been a sure-fire way to win.

Fengling said, "There are many ways to cook fish, but the essence remains the same: removing the fishy smell and preserving freshness is key. Let's make soup."

"Smart, I just happened to buy crucian carp."

"So, we're actually on the same wavelength?"

Lin Yuanran thought for a moment and said, "It is said that when two people spend a lot of time together, their behavior and habits will become more similar to each other. It seems that our tacit understanding did not come suddenly, but was developed in the Pan-Ancient Continent."

"right."

She would never tell him that she had actually used an oracle to check the refrigerator after waking up, so it would be strange if she didn't know what was inside.

But let him misunderstand; some things are better left unsaid.

……

"You...don't have class today?" Looking at the soup bowl, which was almost empty, Lin Yuanran asked the crucial question.

Fengling swallowed the fish soup and said nonchalantly, "Yes, but I'm a cultivator. What use would learning those things be? If I don't want to go, I won't go."

Lin Yuanran thought about it and realized it made sense. He had one today too, but so what? They had just confirmed their relationship yesterday and didn't want to be apart for even a moment, not even in class. Besides, classes for ordinary people were practically useless to people like them.

Looking at the night view outside the window and then at the mess on the dining table, Lin Yuanran said, "After dinner, do you want to go for a walk later?"

Fengling didn't get up until noon. After having stewed mutton and potatoes for lunch, the two of them had been crammed into the living room all day, and it was time for them to go out and get some exercise.

She agreed without hesitation: "Okay."

"Okay, remember to wash the dishes," Lin Yuanran added.

"But you ate it too."

"I did it."

Lin Yuanran's single sentence sealed the victory.

He then added, "In our family, my mother usually does the cooking, so according to the law of conservation of labor, she obviously shouldn't be the one washing the dishes."

"Okay, you're really going all out to avoid washing dishes, even making up a completely fabricated law of conservation of labor."

"You've made great progress; you've even learned to use 'fabricated' now."

“That’s right.” Fengling said smugly.

From childhood, praise had been a constant companion, surrounding her to the point that she was long since immune to it. However, she seemed to be immune to Lin Yuanran's praise, and it made her feel quite pleased.

"How about this, I'll start cooking tomorrow, and you can do the dishes?" Fengling suggested.

Lin Yuanran was slightly surprised: "You can cook?"

"Who do you think you are? I remember mentioning mushroom soup to you many times when we talked on the phone in the temple. I made those myself. That old woman Hantina likes to drink it. She thinks it tastes natural and that drinking more of it is good for beauty, health and wellness. I don't know where she got that conclusion from."

"Is mushroom soup the same as cooking?"

"Why not?"

"Okay, you can cook it tomorrow. But you have to get up early, otherwise the vegetables won't be fresh if you sell them in the morning."

Wind Chime glanced sideways: "You're subtly criticizing me."

Lin Yuanran sensed the killing intent and quickly said he dared not.

In fact, Fengling is definitely not a lazy person, because most lazy people accomplish nothing, while she is so outstanding.

Today is an exception.

Given what happened yesterday, it would be a miracle if she, as the person involved, could remain calm.

So she was not at peace and didn't fall asleep until late at night.

Lin Yuanran was also not at peace. He finally managed to fall asleep, but woke up in the early morning with a start, recalling everything from yesterday as if it were a dream.

To verify that it wasn't a dream, Lin Yuanran gently pinched himself, and it did indeed hurt a little.

From this perspective, Feng Ling is relatively calm, unlike Lin Yuanran, who, even when asleep, would immediately wake up, fearing that those experiences were fake.

……

At night, a cool breeze pressed down on my face.

In late May, Hangzhou is in the transition season between spring and summer. The air is restless and quite hot. Even at night, there are waves of heat. Fortunately, there is a pleasant evening breeze that can provide some relief.

Lin Yuanran is a fire mage, so he is indifferent to high temperatures, but he can still feel the warmth in his hands.

Lin Yuanran made up his mind. It was just a matter of expressing his feelings. What was so difficult about that? Apart from the change in their status, he not only wanted to restore their previous way of getting along, but also to be proactive.

and so……

They had agreed to go for a walk, but Lin Yuanran stopped after only a few steps and stared intently at the wind chimes.

"Give me your hand."

Fengling raised an eyebrow, thinking that this guy was finally not being awkward anymore.

Before the wind chimes could move, Lin Yuanran hopped on, and the two strolled along the shore of Ginkgo Lake.

Ginkgo Lake is located inside Silver Lake Park and is named after the many ginkgo trees planted around it. Silver Lake Park is the place Lin Yuanran brought her to yesterday.

Today is different; the two have already expressed their feelings and no longer need to block out others.

It was just past dusk, and the park was bustling with people—joggers, strollers, and of course, couples like the two of them on dates.

Under a huge ginkgo tree, there was an empty bench, seemingly there to welcome them.

The two sat down, facing an open space. Next to the open space, a loud speaker was blasting music, and a group of elderly people were singing and dancing, having a great time.

"I feel like we've started our retirement life ahead of schedule," Lin Yuanran remarked with emotion.

“How old are you to be thinking about retirement? Don’t forget, we still have to go back to the Pan-Ancient Continent,” Wind Chime said.

"Xu's parents have treated me well, and if possible, I want to continue being their daughter. Speaking of which... we've come back like this. So, on the ancient continent, did we simply disappear, or did we, like on Earth, have our bodies still intact and continue to develop according to the original timeline?"

"Who knows?" Lin Yuanran sighed. "Anyway, Death helped us come back, so he should be able to handle it."

"Right."

Just as Lin Yuanran was considering whether to put his arm around Feng Ling's waist, a commotion suddenly broke out in the open space opposite.

"You can hear that from far away, what's going on over there?" Lin Yuanran asked.

"It seems... an elderly person suddenly fainted."
