Firefly Journey
Chapter 28 Major Events in the Small Town (4)
Andre Bar remains as popular with outsiders as ever, always packed to capacity, a situation unchanged even after the death of a local resident.
Of course, most people didn't know about this. At Cassius's instruction, Curry Ward went around visiting people to keep the matter under control as much as possible, in order to avoid alerting the enemy.
The case continued to escalate, which played right into the killer's hands.
In the dim light of the bar, there was endless noise and commotion. Hoglius and Fwaye sat arm in arm in a corner against the wall, just like the other patrons.
"Sir, your wine." Lately, the tavern's customer traffic has only increased, and Olek Andrei spends most of his time helping out here.
"Thank you, you're such a hardworking child," Fway praised.
There was something off about the way he said it, because he wasn't much older than Olek, yet he spoke like an elder.
“It’s what I should do…” Olek respectfully withdrew.
Hauglis raised his glass: "Baboon, that's enough. Stop acting like you've been there all along. We have important business to attend to."
"Okay, okay." Faye waved his hand dismissively. "Coming to a bar and not drinking would be like wearing your ulterior motives on your sleeve. You're always like this, too impatient. Come on, let's drink first."
Hauglis composed himself and clinked glasses with Fwaye.
Looking at his packed tavern, Olek felt a mix of joy and loss. Every young person harbors a vast sky in their heart, dreaming of riding a dragon and roaming freely within it.
The desire to become a superhuman was growing wildly in Olek's heart.
Unfortunately, he didn't have the same "luck" as Lin Yuanran and Wendy, who were noticed by an outsider and taught extraordinary skills.
The future is earned through courage.
Olek thought that instead of waiting for a windfall, he might as well make it himself.
"Dad, I'm going to deliver some wine to the guests upstairs."
“Okay.” Ryan Olek gestured in his notebook, calculating recent profits and losses, completely unaware of his son’s thoughts.
Olek observed that there were different levels among the extraordinary individuals, and the most powerful ones rarely appeared in the tavern, such as the werewolf Jonathan who lived upstairs and his brother and sister students.
Why not start here?
"Hello, here's your absinthe." Olek knocked lightly on the door.
Jonathan the werewolf opened the door, reached out and took the glass of wine, and said politely, "Thank you for your hard work."
Just as Jonathan was about to close the door, Olek gritted his teeth, disregarded the abruptness, and mustered his courage to say, "Mr. Jonathan, I have something I'd like to ask you."
Jonathan stopped and turned around, having already entered halfway through the doorway: "Go ahead and ask."
After knowing each other for a few days, Jonathan had a good impression of Olek and was happy to talk to him.
"Excuse me, how can one become a superhuman?" Olek's voice trailed off, reflecting his inner unease.
Jonathan was silent for a moment, then roughly guessed what was going on. The influx of outsiders had shown the restless teenager a different path to growth than he had originally taken.
Werewolves also have adolescence, he understands that feeling, but reality is much crueler than imagined; becoming an extraordinary being is not something that can be done easily.
If he could, Jonathan wouldn't mind being his guide on the path to the extraordinary. But when he first arrived, he had quietly investigated him. Olek was just an ordinary person. Although he was intelligent, he didn't possess the talent required for an extraordinary being.
“I know you’re asking this because you want to become a superhuman.” Jonathan didn’t want to shatter a boy’s beautiful dream, so he tried to put it gently: “Superhumans are one in a hundred. Unfortunately, Olek, your talent is only average.”
Life is full of disappointments, but every field has its wonders. What do you think?
Olek was a smart boy, and he could easily understand the meaning behind Jonathan's words. He lowered his head in disappointment.
"Thank you for your reply, Mr. Jonathan. Enjoy your meal. I'll be leaving now."
"Try to think more positively." Jonathan could only try his best to comfort him.
Olek returned to the counter, his eyes dull and lifeless for a long time. After a struggle with his conscience, he seemed to have let go and turned his attention to the tavern.
Mr. Jonathan is right. Every field has its wonders, and as long as you work hard, you will shine.
In the corner, after drinking for two hours, Fave and Hauglis finally made their move.
With his overly friendly (shameless) enthusiasm, he became one of the drinkers and began to subtly inquire about their needs, but the information he obtained was very limited.
Since the murderer committed the crime silently, how could it be easily discovered? The two men's investigation was in vain, but they did drink quite a bit of alcohol.
……
……
At dawn, the fallen rabbit disappeared.
The diligent Lin Yuanran got up early and practiced the two divine pronouncements in the open space in front of the door.
Surprisingly, Fengling, with her hands covering her face and yawning incessantly, also got up very early.
"Good morning." Lin Yuanran extinguished the flames and greeted the girl.
"Good morning." Feng Ling's voice was extremely languid. Her sapphire-like eyes were almost completely covered by her upper and lower eyelids, and her golden hair was disheveled, which was quite different from her usual image.
"This girl isn't as pretty as usual, but she has an indescribable cuteness, hmm, cute," Lin Yuanran thought.
Feng Ling washed her face, her mind clearing considerably. She looked at Lin Yuanran and said, "Cassius is always like this, he likes to leave things to me. So, are you ready to be tested?"
The magic exam was for Lin Yuanran alone, with Feng Ling serving as the proctor, as arranged by Cassius.
"You don't seem to have called him 'teacher' before," Lin Yuanran frowned.
Wind Chime said, "You may not know this, but he was only about seven or eight years older than us. He used to be my private tutor. Back then, he was just an ordinary student in St. Louis."
"No wonder you're friends."
"I don't have many friends, but he does count as one. Okay, let's begin the exam now."
"Oh."
Lin Yuanran got into position, then casually snapped his fingers with his right hand, and a flame rose from his index finger.
As Lin Yuanran manipulated it, the flames changed shape continuously, sometimes square, sometimes flat, and finally suddenly expanded into a fireball the size of a basketball.
"Throw it out," Wind Chime commanded.
Lin Yuanran narrowed his eyes slightly, moving his fingers back and forth as he aimed.
call out!
The fireball shot out, its target the thick, large tree. However, it missed the target by a tiny bit.
Originally, he intended to bombard the tree trunk, where there were pre-installed wooden planks to prevent the old tree from being scorched.
Now, Lin Yuanran's fireball landed on the branch, and the green leaves, like dry grass, burst into flames.
Oh no! Lin Yuanran slapped his forehead.
Wind Chime gave him a disgruntled look, as if to say, "How could you miss such a simple fireball spell?"
Having no other choice, she had to step in to correct Lin Yuanran's mistake.
A jet of water gushed out, freezing the leaves instantly upon contact with the lush foliage, extinguishing the flames.
Oracle. Ice Soul.
