Firefly Journey

Chapter 19 The Elf's Birthday (3)

"The staff is just a medium. Through it, you can construct magic more quickly. Well, it only accelerates the activation of 'Oracle.' The strength of the magic after activation is still affected by your own strength."

Of course, this is the majority of the uses for staves; some are enchanted and possess special abilities. The most famous are the Ancestral Artifacts, also known as 'Gifts of the Gods.'

The wind chime explained earnestly.

Lin Yuanran felt dizzy; there were just too many things to remember, even harder than memorizing English vocabulary.

"So, this means the gift from the gods is a staff that the gods used?" Lin Yuanran asked.

A hint of helplessness flashed in Fengling's eyes; kindergarten children are really hard to teach.

"It's not just limited to staffs; any item that contains magical power is a magical artifact. Items used by gods are called divine artifacts. Among them, the gifts from the Seven Ancestral Gods are the strongest and are widely known."

The Cathedral of Light in Ibiza houses the sacred artifact once used by Julius, the 'Sun,' a symbol of the Papacy.

Lin Yuanran nodded as if he understood, much like a child in an English class, but thanks to his extensive reading of novels in his original world, he was quite receptive to these ideas.

“I can roughly understand that ‘divine oracle’ is the name of magic cast by a superhuman. But what about ‘miracle’? Is there any difference between them?”

Wind Chime said, "'Oracles' are magic created by superhumans, while 'miracles' are 'oracles' created by gods. The power of either one surpasses that of the strongest 'oracle,' and the conditions for releasing a 'miracle' are extremely demanding, and they are only recorded in a few documents. Well, the Seven Ancestral God Churches naturally have them."

"Do you know how to use it?"

Wind Chime shook her head: "No, miracles are even harder to obtain than rare initial sequence professions."

"Alright, I'd like you to demonstrate it for me." Lin Yuanran smiled.

“I’m not omnipotent. Alright, now that you’ve become a superhuman, you also need to receive divine guidance, otherwise you’re no different from an ordinary person.” Feng Ling patted the bell at her waist, and three yellow papers appeared in her hand.

"Take it." She handed over the yellow paper.

Lin Yuanran took it, glanced at it casually, and said, "This is the method for releasing the divine oracle?"

“Yes,” Wind Chime replied. “The two oracle oracles of the ‘Fire Mage’ were given to you by Cassius. The other one is a gift from me as a token of my friendship.”

"I can't accept this," Lin Yuanran said politely, as was his habit.

“It’s not a good thing. This ‘sealing spell’ is a general-purpose magic that can be cast without any class restrictions. I know you want to give it as a gift to your friend, and I thought it would come in handy,” Fengling said.

Lin Yuanran beamed with joy, his goodwill towards this unexpected guest growing even stronger.

He glanced at the divine oracle on the yellow paper and said, "No wonder, this way I can keep those flowers in bloom..."

“Cassius has very few students. Being recognized by him is an opportunity for you. I hope you can work hard so that you can at least reunite with him at the academy.”

"I will." Lin Yuanran's voice was weak, and he didn't even believe himself.

Fengling said no more and went back to her room.

Lin Yuanran was overjoyed. He took the three pieces of yellow paper back to his room, spread them out on the table, and began to study them carefully.

Aside from the common sealing spells, the other two oracles are both related to fire mages.

Oracle. Fireball.

Oracle. Great Flame Dragon.

Based on the description above, the two oracles are the most basic fire magic, which is very suitable for Lin Yuanran at this stage. They are simple and easy to learn, and Cassius has put his heart into it.

Lin Yuanran carefully examined the yellow paper, memorized the method, and suddenly felt enlightened, unable to resist trying it out.

……

……

"Little Wendy, going to the river again?"

At Juppés' house, Lumer, who was staying there, saw his daughter carrying a wooden bucket out and asked her what was wrong.

Wendy looked up, revealing a gentle smile that seemed to possess a magical quality, instantly lifting Lumer's spirits. Having come from across the distant ocean, it was impossible for him not to miss home. Lumer was a married man with two adorable children, and as a father, he couldn't bear to see his children suffer.

In his eyes, Wendy was just a child.

In remote mountain villages and towns, there are countless cases like Wendy's, but kind-hearted people, no matter how many similar scenes they have seen, will still feel unbearable pain.

Wendy didn't feel particularly upset, after all, she had always been like this since she was a child.

She replied, "Yes, but not many today, so I can come back earlier."

Lu Mo said, "Have a safe journey."

Wendy paused for a moment, then looked at the boarding uncle with some confusion, feeling utterly bewildered, before picking up her bucket and walking away.

Kind-hearted Lumer went out for a walk to clear his head and didn't return until evening.

The dinner for the members of Mechanical Wings was entirely provided by the Jupes family. Throughout the dinner, Lumer kept a close eye on the adorable little girl.

Wendy eats slowly and deliberately, seemingly oblivious to her family's financial situation, much like a noblewoman. She never eats much, and after finishing, she proactively helps her mother clean up, which shows that she is much more sensible than her younger siblings.

“Mr. Engel, I have something I’d like to discuss with you,” Lumer called out to Wendy’s father.

Engel Jupes turned his head, his face full of confusion. He didn't know why this wealthy tenant would suddenly call him.

"Is it urgent, sir?"

"According to the customs of the principality, a child is considered an adult after turning sixteen, right?"

“Yes, sir.” Engel’s doubts deepened, as this was common knowledge.

"Wendy's birthday is next Wednesday. What are your plans afterward?"

Honest Engel replied, “If you stay home to work, you might get married if someone proposes. That’s how it is here, sir.”

Lumer sighed: "What about Wendy? Do you know what she's thinking?"

Engel said numbly, "I discussed it with her when she left school, and she said it was no problem."

She said of course it was no problem; the child was very considerate and had a clear understanding of the family's poverty.

Lumer said, "If you agree, I'm willing to teach her and make her a superhuman."

This wasn't just a baseless sympathy; after observing Wendy for several days, Lumer discovered that she had a rather high talent for mechanical creation, and she also showed considerable interest in the little gadgets he had brought.

On one hand, I couldn't bear to do it; on the other hand, if he was properly taught and trained, Wendy could very well become a qualified follower of the God of Machines.

At the very least, it can lead to better development.

For the middle-aged men in the small town who had only heard rumors about the extraordinary, the term "superhuman" was a sacred one.

“You, this, I… If little Wendy agrees, our whole family has no objections.”

As a father, he noticed everything Wendy did, but because of reality, he couldn't afford to give her the life of a pampered princess. With an opportunity to change her fate right in front of him, how could he refuse?

Lu Mo nodded in satisfaction: "I will take her away after this trip."
