Firefly Journey

Chapter 14 Gods, Professions, Awakening (4)

"Hello, breakfast is served."

"Just come in."

Olek carried three portions of food into the room, not daring to look up too much, as the other party's status as a superhuman made him very wary.

"Teacher, everyone came here for the ruins of the ancient god, so who exactly was this fallen being?" Finne Robert asked as Olek respectfully withdrew.

“He is Krumbo, who followed the path of the ‘earth mage’ and was active in the Great Barrier before becoming a god,” Jonathan explained. “It’s quite strange, considering that he had no connection with the duchy, it’s worth pondering why the Divine Ruins would appear here.”

The Great Barrier is another name for the Kolumbutz mountain range, which stretches from south to north across half of the Pangaea, splitting the continent into east and west halves, hence the name "Great Barrier".

Jamie Roberts yawned and said dismissively, "Who cares? You guys are overthinking it. What good will it do to get to the bottom of things? Obviously, it won't help us in our search for the ruins."

Jonathan said, “As your mentor, I want to correct your bad habit of not pursuing the truth, but as you said, doubts cannot stop our mission.”

It has been confirmed that His divine ruins are located in the Yedeen Mountains. Many covetous individuals, including you and me, have gone to explore them, but have returned empty-handed. Not only is it difficult to pinpoint the exact location, but the magical beasts within are also a major headache.

Therefore, someone proposed a plan.

"A plan?" Jamie frowned. "What plan? And who initiated it?"

Jonathan said slowly, "Cassius Bello."

“‘Great Teacher’ Cassius Bello?” Jamie and Finney had both heard of him.

At a young age, he became a tutor at St. Louis College, often taking students on sketching trips to various places and helping to resolve some difficult issues in the local area.

For example, he once hunted a snow dragon in the northern tundra, a creature whose strength was close to that of a god. According to his companions, they were shivering in the cold wind and did not even have the courage to fight. It was Cassius who fought alone in the heavy snow.

The latest rumor is that six months ago, another province of the principality was hit by a plague. Upon investigation, it was discovered that it was the work of followers of an evil god. As a result, he led two or three students to wipe out their stronghold.

The leader of that evil god's church, despite being possessed by a god, was unable to subdue him. He should now be imprisoned in the Vatican's eternal night prison, receiving the baptism of light until the end of his life.

He was so famous that whenever people mentioned St. Louis, they would think of an incredibly fierce teacher there.

“So the Duchy knew all along that we were being played like clowns.” Jamie Roberts chuckled self-deprecatingly. “I’m curious what role the ‘con artist’ played in all this.”

Jonathan said, "The conman's profession is the Grim Reaper path, so he shouldn't have much to do with the Vatican. The reason he deliberately released all the information is probably because he reached some kind of agreement with the Duchy and the Vatican."

“But now, we have to agree, you understand?” Jonathan said helplessly.

Robert's siblings understood; if they didn't come with him, the trip would likely be a complete financial loss.

Since the Duchy had already learned of the ancient god's ruins, according to normal procedures, it should have sent someone from the Papacy, at least someone of bishop rank.

While Cassius was capable, he was indeed inferior to a bishop, and in terms of status, he was merely a teacher, not a member of the papacy or an official of the duchy; he could not even fully represent the government.

What's most puzzling is that the duchy should have attached great importance to the ruins discovered right at its doorstep, but throughout the entire town, only Cassius and a few of his students were present. This is far too disrespectful to the ancient gods.

Cassius extended the invitation to everyone for a simple reason: with his strength alone, he could deduce the location of the Divine Ruins in time, but he would face new challenges.

The so-called ancient god ruins or god's ruins are, in other words, the tombs of gods. Since they are gods, how could outsiders just enter their eternal resting place? There must be methods to seal them off.

The seal of the gods is so powerful that few extraordinary individuals in the world can break it, not because they can't find a way, but because they lack the power.

So what can we do? The solution is simple.

Unity.

One person's strength is limited, but what if we magnify that number tenfold, a hundredfold, or even a thousandfold?

Many hands make light work, and many grains of sand can form a tower. By pooling our strength, we can surely break through the divine seal.

To put it bluntly, Cassius wanted to join forces with everyone to open the entrance to the Divine Ruins first. As for what was inside and how the items should be divided, that was something to be dealt with after they went in.

"I will be attending the party he organized this evening, and you should also get ready, as we may leave at any time."

"is teacher."

……

……

"Are you here? Sit down."

Cassius put down the book he had read countless times, casually tossed it aside, and sat down on a wooden chair inside the room.

Lin Yuanran was flattered and, suppressing his excitement and unease, slowly sat down. He noticed that the book Cassius was reading was called "On the Three Elements of Land Reform".

“What did Fengling tell you? Is there anything else you want to know? I can tell you anything.” Cassius Bello stared at Lin Yuanran as if trying to see through him.

Feeling the man's gaze across from him, Lin Yuanran felt extremely uncomfortable, and even his words became somewhat incoherent. After composing himself, he stammered out a brief retelling of what Feng Ling had said.

Cassius listened intently, as if addressing an old friend, showing absolute respect. After Lin Yuanran finished speaking, he said, "Do you know why I'm telling you all this?"

Lin Yuanran shook his head. "How would I know?"

“So alike.” Cassius smiled gently. “The same inquisitive eyes, the same lack of resentment. Hmm, I see my younger self in you.”

Lin Yuanran understood; this great and wise teacher must have had a painful past, just like himself now.

“It’s not impossible to become a superhuman, provided you have enough confidence,” Cassius said. “After observing you for a while, I’ve found that you have the qualities. I will teach you to undergo an awakening, obtain a basic sequence, and have a superhuman profession.”

Upon hearing this, Lin Yuanran felt his face flush. He had never imagined that he would become a superhuman in such a simple way.

"really?"

"Really, this isn't something valuable. To go far on this path, you need self-awareness and hard work."

As I've already told you, St. Louis admits students every year, but the requirements are notoriously stringent. I can assure you that the next admissions round will be at the end of this summer.

The entry barrier is simple; you just need to be talented enough, which I think you have no problem with. But you'll need to raise that 1 crystal coin tuition fee yourself.

I'm telling you all this in the hope that I'll see you at the academy someday.

Lin Yuanran pursed his lips. Was this his expectation of him? What should I do now? Should I confidently pat my chest and make a guarantee, or should I frown and say it's difficult?

"Don't be nervous, that's a few months from now. Now, I'll tell you how to master the One Sleep Path."
