Black Market Boss: His Beloved Wife's Lazy Life
Chapter 129 Making Dumplings
In the dim light of the kerosene lamp, Shang Guokang's eyes flickered slightly, but it was too fleeting for Gao Jianguo and Shang Yanfang to catch.
"It's nothing! What could possibly be wrong with me?" Shang Guokang even got off the kang and bounced around a couple of times for Shang Yanfang, just to see what his sister was going to ask next.
Shang Guokang then changed the subject, asking, "Brother-in-law, what are you carrying? Why does it smell so bad?"
Shang Yanfang's attention was successfully diverted, "This is snail rice noodles, it's very delicious."
Gao Jianguo narrowed his eyes, glanced at Shang Guokang, and said, "Wife, eat quickly. Otherwise it will get cold."
"Oh, okay." Shang Yanfang was really starving, so she picked up her bowl and started eating.
"Xiaokang still has some left, would you like some?" Gao Jianguo asked his brother-in-law.
"No, brother-in-law, you eat! I'm not hungry." Shang Guokang lost his appetite just from the smell.
"Then I'll eat it," Gao Jianguo said, glancing at Shang Guokang.
"Eat, eat. Brother-in-law, I'm not hungry, you eat!" Shang Guokang said, forcing back the hunger pangs in his stomach.
How could he not be hungry? He was starving. He had only eaten one bowl of rice porridge in 24 hours. He really couldn't take it anymore.
Watching his brother-in-law and sister eat such delicious food, Shang Guokang felt his mouth watering.
"Xiao Kang, come and try some! It smells bad, but it tastes delicious," Gao Jianguo said, as if he had sensed something.
"Xiaokang, it's really delicious." Shang Yanfang also gave her strong support.
Shang Guokang, somewhat dazed by what the two were saying, took a bite of snail rice noodles. "Is it delicious?" Shang Yanfang said, looking at her younger brother.
"Mmm, delicious." Shang Guokang was so engrossed in eating that he didn't even want to lift his head.
"Brother-in-law, do you have any steamed buns?" Shang Guokang had finished all the noodles in the bowl, but he still felt a little hungry, so he asked.
“Yes,” Gao Jianguo said, handing Shang Guokang a steamed bun.
He finished all the noodles in his bowl and didn't take any more. He wasn't very hungry today, so he didn't argue with them.
"Shang Guokang, can't you eat a little less?" Shang Yanfang noticed that there was hardly anything left in the basin on the kang table, so the two started arguing.
"Sis, this snail rice noodle soup isn't good for the baby. I'll eat more for you, you eat less." Shang Guokang looked at his sister without giving an inch.
"No, I'm not full yet." The siblings started bickering again. Gao Jianguo shook his head helplessly and took out a roasted sweet potato from the side and handed it to Shang Yanfang.
“Honey, let’s have snail rice noodles in a few days. Let’s have some roasted sweet potatoes for now! Xiaokang just got out of prison after a serious illness, so don’t take it to heart.” Gao Jianguo knew the art of speaking.
"Fine, I won't stoop to his level. After all, he's just a younger brother," Shang Yanfang said with a touch of arrogance.
After dinner, Shang Guokang returned to Grandpa Chen's room, and Gao Jianguo hugged Shang Yanfang from behind and fell asleep peacefully.
"Xiao Kang, do you remember how you fainted?" Shang Yanfang had taken a nap and her mind was clearer than it had been the night before. She looked at her younger brother, who was sitting there studying hard, and asked him incredulously.
"I must have fainted from the cold!" Shang Guokang said after thinking for a moment.
"Do you remember what happened after you fainted?" Shang Yanfang continued to probe indirectly.
"Sis, I've already fainted, what could possibly happen? It's just a matter of getting Grandpa Zhang to come and check on me, what else could it be?" Shang Guokang looked at his sister with disdain.
Suppressing her anger, Shang Yanfang took two deep breaths and continued to ask, "Then do you remember your dream?"
"Sis, I don't remember dreaming! Why are you asking so many questions!" Shang Guokang looked at his sister with a helpless expression.
With a "smack," Shang Yanfang slapped Shang Guokang on the head. Finally, she felt relieved and realized she could no longer tolerate it.
"Sister, what if you beat me so badly I'm stupid!" Shang Guokang accused Shang Yanfang.
"He wasn't very smart to begin with, maybe a beating will make him smarter!" Shang Yanfang muttered to herself as she looked at Shang Guokang.
"Sister, stop hitting me. If you keep hitting me, I'll really go crazy." Shang Guokang quickly dodged when he saw his sister raising her hand again.
In the following days, Shang Guokang acted as if nothing had happened, coming home every day to eat and study.
However, a major event occurred on New Year's Eve.
Lin Huihui and Wu Gang froze to death in that thatched hut. No one knows how long they had been frozen to death; their bodies were already cold when they were found.
The whole brigade's New Year's atmosphere was ruined because of this incident.
However, this didn't bother Shang Yanfang; they were sitting together making dumplings.
"Xiao Kang, look what you're holding! Tsk tsk tsk!" Shang Yanfang said disdainfully, looking at the rotten dumplings that Shang Guokang had made.
"It's just a hole! I can just patch it up with dough!" Shang Guokang said cleverly.
"Then you do the repair!" Shang Yanfang wanted to see what kind of thing her younger brother could bring out.
Shang Guokang took a dough ball and wrapped it around the broken dumpling, turning it into a glutinous rice ball.
"Hahaha, just like that." Shang Yanfang mocked Shang Guokang mercilessly.
"Then give me one to hold so I can see," Shang Guokang said, quite unconvinced.
"Fine, I'll hug you then! Who's afraid of who!" Shang Yanfang rolled up her sleeves, ready to get down to business.
But imagination and reality are different.
She picked up a wrapper, filled it with filling, and a plump, white dumpling was freshly made. No, that was just in her imagination.
"Honey, do you think this filling is enough?"
"There aren't enough, you can put in more," Gao Jianguo said, glancing at the dumplings in his wife's hand.
"how about this?"
"That's fine!" Shang Yanfang's second filling was good enough, so she started wrapping the dumplings according to her mother's method of making them, based on her memory.
"Honey, honey, why can't I hold them together? Is it because the dough is no good?" Shang Yanfang said, looking at the dumplings that she couldn't hold together no matter what she did.
While drying the dumplings, Shang Guokang glanced at the dumplings in Shang Yanfang's hand and laughed without hesitation.
"Haha, sis, your dumplings are even worse than mine."
Shang Yanfang gave her younger brother a cold look, letting him figure out the meaning for himself, while she watched Gao Jianguo's dumpling-making technique.
"Hold me like this, and don't touch the filling with your hands, otherwise it will be harder to hold me later." Gao Jianguo taught his young wife step by step.
"Okay, I got it." Shang Yanfang looked at the dumplings Gao Jianguo had made several times and said with great certainty.
The second dumpling was ready. This time, Shang Yanfang wrapped it up and the filling didn't leak out. However, when she put it on the table, the dumpling opened up on its own.
