Chapter 38 Visiting Yueyang Tower

After taking a shower, Wu Zhinan actually walked out of the bathhouse on his own, with a smile on his face, showing no signs of being sick.

"This doctor is really good. I only took the medicine once and the problem was solved. I'll take it again later, and I'll be completely cured by tomorrow." Wu Zhinan and Li Bai talked as they walked upstairs to their room.

Seeing that Wu Zhinan was better, my heart finally settled down. Back in my room, waves of exhaustion washed over me, and I collapsed onto the bed fully clothed and fell asleep.

"Yuehua, get up! What time is it? Still sleeping?" Li Bai shook me and called out.

"Young Master, how did you get in? I remember locking the door."

"You even locked the door? You didn't even close it; I had to close it for you."

"Really? I was so tired yesterday, I'm completely confused. Thank you, young master."

"Yuehua, if you feel unwell, please tell me. You can't get sick."

"I understand, I won't get sick. How is Young Master Wu?"

"He's fine now. He drank another bowl of medicine in the middle of the night last night, and he's perfectly normal this morning. He's even practicing Tai Chi on the balcony."

"That's good." After I finished speaking, I went with Li Bai to their room. On the balcony outside the room, Wu Zhinan was practicing Tai Chi with push and pull movements.

At that moment, Kobayashi came up with breakfast.

"Young Master Li, your breakfast has arrived. Which room should I put it in?" Xiao Lin asked.

"Just put it on the table in this room. Thank you!" Li Bai replied.

"Young Master Wu, stop practicing, take a break, and have breakfast," I called out.

Wu Zhinan stopped and stood on the balcony, gazing into the distance. From this balcony, one could see the vast expanse of Dongting Lake, its waters a deep blue.

"What a vast lake! Brother Taibai, shall we go boating on Dongting Lake?" Wu Zhinan asked.

"Let's rest for a couple of days. I'm too tired these past few days. Let's go after we've rested," Li Bai replied.

"Is it because of my illness? I'm really cured; I'm not short of breath at all now."

"It's not because of your illness, it's because Yuehua said he's too tired." After Li Bai finished speaking, he turned his back to Wu Zhinan and gave me a wink.

I immediately understood and said, "I'm tired from carrying so much luggage every day. I need to rest for a couple of days."

"Alright then, as you wish." Wu Zhinan said as he walked into the room and sat down at the table to eat breakfast.

After finishing breakfast, Li Bai sat on the balcony and began to read.

"Young Master, please go to my room to study. This room is for Young Master Wu. He needs to rest quietly, so please don't disturb him," I said to Li Bai.

After hearing this, Li Bai consciously went to the next room and changed his reading to looking at books.

I went to the kitchen and brewed a bowl of medicine for Wu Zhinan. After taking it, he leaned against the bed with a book in his hand and fell asleep again.

I returned to my room and said to Li Bai, "Young Master Wu's illness is contagious, so we should be careful. Keep your distance when you're with him."

"He's been coughing for so long, and he's been with us the whole time. We're both fine, aren't we? Don't worry, it's alright," Li Bai comforted me.

I had nothing to say, so I walked to the window and looked at the bright sunshine outside.

Wu Zhinan took a nap and then woke up. He came to our room and said, "The weather is so nice, let's go climb the Yueyang City Tower later this afternoon."

Li Bai and I said in unison, "Great!"

In the afternoon, as the sun was about to set, the three of us arrived at the west gate of Yueyang Ancient City. Looking up at this city tower that had been damaged and repaired many times, we couldn't help but feel a surge of emotions. Lu Su of the Three Kingdoms period could never have imagined that hundreds of years later, his military review tower would become a place for people to admire.

Li Bai led me and Wu Zhinan up the West Gate city wall to the Yueyang Ancient Tower. Looking up, we saw the boundless Dongting Lake connecting with the distant mountains. Dongting Mountain, which named Dongting Lake, resembled a green snail emerging from the water. The Yangtze River flowed past the edge of Dongting Lake, the lake and the river being as close as lips and teeth.

Entering the ancient Yueyang Tower, Li Bai stroked each of the four golden nanmu pillars that stretched to the top of the tower. He admired the view from the first floor to the second. Upon reaching the second floor, facing the boundless Dongting Lake, Li Bai drew his sword and wrote on the tower's wall: "Water and sky merge into one color, the wind and moon are boundless." The inscription reads: "Written by Chang Geng, Li Bai."

Looking at Li Bai's inscription, I thought of the calligraphy that still hangs in the ancient building a thousand years later, and it is exactly the same.

The three of us strolled around the ancient building, enjoying the scenery of the lake and mountains in front of it, and before we knew it, night had fallen.

Wu Zhinan said, "To be remembered for a thousand years alongside this building would be a life without regrets."

"Young Master Wu, you're right. My young master will be remembered for eternity with this building," I said.

"Yuehua, you're talking big again. What makes me worthy of being remembered for generations?" Li Bai shook his head and smiled helplessly.

"Young master, don't you even have this much confidence? Just look at your praise of Dongting Lake: 'The water and sky blend into one, the wind and moon are boundless,' a praise that has never been before or since."

"Yuehua, you're getting better and better at talking. I love listening to you." Li Bai casually patted my head.

Wu Zhinan jokingly said, "You two, master and servant, keep bragging."

"I can't explain this to you." After saying that, the three of us walked out of the Yueyang Ancient Tower.

The three of us strolled along West Street in Yueyang Ancient City. It was dinnertime, and the aromas wafting from both sides of the street made me feel extremely hungry.

"Young Master, let's go eat." I said to Li Bai.

"Let's go eat some snacks. I heard the bean curd sheets in Yueyang Ancient City are quite good," Li Bai said.

As we were talking, Wu Zhinan suddenly spotted a bean curd skin vendor at a street corner not far away, so we walked over.

"Boss, give us three servings of bean curd sheets," I called out.

Li Bai and Wu Zhinan both looked at me and said, "I want five servings."

"If we can't finish it, it won't taste good when it gets cold," I said.

"Let's pack it up and take it back to the inn to eat. Brother Zhinan and I will have a couple of drinks," Li Bai said.

I had no choice but to take out more money and buy a few more portions, asking the owner to pack them up for us.

On the way back, we passed a winery, and Li Bai went in because of the aroma of the wine. The three of us each carried a jar of wine and headed towards the inn.

Back in the inn room, Li Bai and Wu Zhinan started drinking with bean curd sheets, while I went downstairs to the canteen to get some dishes. Dinner was ready for tonight.

It must be said that Yueyang's bean curd sheets are truly delicious. The fragrance of mung beans combined with the stickiness of glutinous rice, pan-fried over low heat, result in a crispy exterior and tender interior, making them both fragrant and crunchy. Li Bai and Wu Zhinan praised them endlessly as they ate them.

I reminded Wu Zhinan, "Drink less alcohol; you need to take your medicine later."

Wu Zhinan said, "You don't need to take any more medicine; I'm completely recovered. You should rest well, and tomorrow we can go to Dongting Lake for a trip."

"No, let's wait another day. I still need to take my medicine. I'll go find the boat tomorrow and then we'll talk about it," I said.

"Yuehua is right. Tomorrow, Yuehua's task is to find a boat. Brother Zhinan, let's drink this cup and then have dinner," Li Bai said.

It was past nine o'clock when we finished dinner. The streets of the alley were quiet. Although it was June, the cool evening breeze from Dongting Lake swept through the ancient city, making the originally hot summer feel as comfortable as spring.

After I finished brewing the medicine, I supervised Wu Zhinan to drink it, and then urged Li Bai to go back to his room to rest.
