I served as Li Bai's page.

Chapter 3 Cooperation with Purple Robe

I woke to the sound of poetry being recited. I was still dressed in men's clothing, just like yesterday. Stepping out of my room, I saw that Ziyi had already prepared breakfast and placed it on the table.

"Purple Robe, why didn't you call me?"

"You locked the door, so I didn't knock."

"Oh, I'll call the young master for dinner. Remember to tell him about what I'm staying behind."

"Okay, got it."

I arrived outside Li Bai's study. Li Bai was reciting Tao Yuanming's "Peach Blossom Spring": "The forest ended at the source of the stream, where a mountain appeared. There was a small opening in the mountain, seemingly emitting light. They abandoned their boat and entered through the opening. At first, it was extremely narrow, barely wide enough for a person to pass through. After walking several dozen steps, it suddenly opened up into a bright and spacious place. The land was flat and wide, with neat houses, fertile fields, beautiful ponds, mulberry trees, and bamboo groves. The paths crisscrossed, and the sounds of chickens and dogs could be heard. The people there went about their farming, and the men and women dressed just like outsiders. The elderly and children alike were all content and happy…" His voice was full of emotion, with intonation and rhythm; I even felt Li Bai's head swaying slightly. I didn't dare knock and turned back.

"Purple Robe, I didn't dare call him 'Young Master,' for fear of interrupting his reading and upsetting him."

"No, young master is very easygoing. Try it and see."

So I went to Li Bai's door again, knocked gently, and said, "Young Master, dinner is ready."

The reading stopped, and Li Bai walked out of the room. I stood in the dining room, watching him nervously.

"Let's eat together. It's just the three of us, so don't be shy." He picked up a bowl of rice and started eating by himself.

Ziyi pulled me to stand in front of him.

"Young Master, Yuehua's home is too far away for him to return to. How about letting him stay and serve you? He is literate and can even read and write."

I tugged at the purple dress.

Li Bai smiled and looked up at me: "Besides these, what else can you do?"

"Don't listen to Ziyi. I can learn anything you don't know," I said timidly, my face involuntarily turning red.

"You're quite shy. Alright, you can stay and be my page. Come on, let's eat."

I was so happy that I forgot myself and pulled Ziyi to sit opposite Li Bai.

That's great! I'll be Li Bai's page.

Ziyi was also very happy for me and quickly explained, "Every morning, the young master goes to the pool to practice his swordsmanship, and then goes to the reading platform or returns to his study to read. Oh, that platform next to the pool is the reading platform, named by our young master. It's the same as the reading platform on Xiaokuang Mountain in our hometown; it's a good place for the young master to study. After breakfast, the young master visits and learns from the various halls on Qingcheng Mountain."

Li Bai, listening to our conversation, interjected, "Ziyi is only fourteen, still a child. You're older, so take on more chores. You two figure it out yourselves." With that, he got up and left the table.

After Ziyi and I finished eating and cleaned up, Ziyi asked, "Young Master, which palace are we going to today?"

"I'm going to the Celestial Master Cave alone today, so you don't need to go. Instead, take Yuehua to familiarize herself with the surroundings." After saying that, he slung his sword over his shoulder, took a milky-white brocade cloak, and went out.

Ziyi scooped up some of the leftover rice and led me to the pond next to the pavilion.

The pool water was crystal clear, with several waterfalls cascading down and splashing up countless tiny waves. Several red carp swam around in the water, while a few crucian carp and grass carp appeared and disappeared among the aquatic plants on the edge of the pool.

We scattered rice into the center of the pond, watched the fish vying for it for a while, and then returned to the pavilion.

The pavilion was small, with a wooden table in the middle and an unfinished game of Go on the table. The black and white stones were clearly distinguished, and there was a bamboo chair on each side.

I sat in the chair, stroking the chess pieces with my hand.

"Yuehua, do you know how to play chess? Young Master loves playing chess, and his aunt often comes to play chess with him," said Ziyi.

"I know a little, but I'm not an expert," I replied.

"As long as I know how, that's fine. When my aunt isn't here, I don't need to go to great lengths to keep the young master company." Zi Yi said with a happy smile.

After sitting in the pavilion for a while, Ziyi stood up, pointed to the east, and said:

"Not far to the east of here is the Jade Maiden Cave, where Abbess Kongming and her three disciples live. My aunt is her youngest disciple; her name is Zhao Feng, and she's the daughter of Young Master Zhao Rui. She's incredibly beautiful. She often comes to visit Young Master."

I quickly filled in the blanks in my mind. Could it be Zhao Rui, the outstanding Taoist and strategist of the Tang Dynasty? His courtesy name was Taibin, and his pen name was Dongyanzi. Li Bai studied imperial strategy and the art of diplomacy under him.

"Is your master's father also on this mountain?"

"Yes, the young master came to Qingcheng Mountain with his master. They live in the East Cave, not far west of the small pond. The young master is often with him." The woman in purple pointed west as she spoke.

I looked up and saw a temple-like building hidden among the trees on the other side of the mountain. In front of it was a small bridge, and next to the bridge was an exquisitely repaired pavilion. I could vaguely see someone practicing swordsmanship in the pavilion.

I pointed at the man and asked the man in purple, "Is that the young master?"

"No, young master went to the Celestial Master Cave today. Young master's master has several disciples."

As Ziyi and I walked into the house, I entered Li Bai's study and began to examine it closely for the first time. On the desk by the window were neatly arranged a dozen pages of written poems. Beneath the window stood two precious inkstones and three pen holders of different colors, filled with various brushes. The walls were covered with calligraphy rubbings by famous figures. Against the wall opposite the window was a daybed; at one end lay a brocade quilt and a long, embroidered pillow, while the other end was piled high with books from various schools of thought. The entire study exuded an air of refined elegance and scholarly refinement.

I walked around the study once, then stepped out, secretly resolving to study diligently under Li Bai's guidance.

I returned to my room, took out my phone, and checked the world I once knew. It was all gone; my study was nowhere to be found. I wondered where Yueyue had gone? Could I ever return to the world I came from? A sense of bewilderment washed over me.

"Senior Brother"

A clear shout suddenly came from outside the door, accompanied by the beautiful figure of a girl floating in.
