Don't meet me in your next life.

Chapter 6 The Lu Family

Lin Lubai drove his car directly to the Lu family's yard.

"Young Master, you're back." The butler immediately came over to open the door for him as his car pulled up.

After getting out of the car, Lin Lubai went to get the painting, while she looked around the courtyard.

The villa in the wealthy area has three buildings in the yard, with gardens on both sides. From here, you can see an outdoor swimming pool to the west. Xiang Yi roughly estimated that the area is at least 1,000 square meters.

"It's so good to be rich!" Xiang Yi originally thought she was pretty good, but after seeing Du Linlubai's house, she realized what it meant to be rich.

"Let's go." Lin Lubai pulled Xiang Yiyi's hand and headed straight for the house in the middle.

The house was decorated very nicely, in a European style, romantic yet understated, except for one thing that seemed out of place: an old-fashioned wooden recliner.

An elderly man with his hair in a stylist lay on it, his eyes slightly closed, as if he were asleep.

"You brat, you wouldn't have come back to see me if I hadn't called, would you? If your grandpa hadn't told me, I wouldn't have known you'd been back for five days." The old man's words were full of reproach but also overflowing with affection.

"Grandpa, what are you saying? I'm just going to bring your granddaughter-in-law back for you to see." Lin Lubai smiled and pulled Xiang Yiyi over.

"Yi Yi, this is my grandfather, a decrepit old man," Lin Lubai said with a smile.

"Come here, little girl, let Grandpa take a look at you," Lu Yaodong called out to Yi Yi affectionately.

"Grandpa, I brought you two paintings. I hope you like them." Xiang Yi went over and handed them to him.

"I like it, I like it. I like anything you give me. But you know, she's a good girl." Lu Yaodong smiled happily.

"Xiaobai, go and ask Aunt Lin to add a few more dishes. She'll stay for dinner tonight," Grandpa instructed.

"I've already told Aunt Lin, don't worry." A middle-aged man with a protruding belly walked in. His eyebrows were somewhat similar to Lin Lubai's, but he seemed to resemble Lu Sichen more.

Xiang Yi shook her head: I must be overthinking it. How could Lin Lubai have anything to do with Lu Sichen?

Lin Lubai completely ignored the man who came in. Seeing Yi Yi shake her head, he quickly asked her, "Are you feeling unwell? Let me help you to the sofa to rest for a while. You probably haven't been sleeping well these past two days."

"Grandpa, I'll stay with you for a while. I won't have dinner here. Maybe next time," Lin Lubai said.

“You rarely come back, don’t you even have time for dinner? I just called your brother, he’ll be back in half an hour. Our family hasn’t eaten together in years.”

“Your family isn’t me! My surname is Lin, not Lu!” Lin Lubai retorted without any politeness.

"You unfilial son, when will you ever speak to me properly?" the man roared angrily.

"Chengmin, shut up. Xiaobai has finally come back, what are you saying?" Lu Yaodong stopped Lu Chengmin from continuing.

"If you don't want to eat, then don't. Girl, rest over there for a while, and you play chess with me for a bit," Lu Yaodong instructed.

“Dad, you can’t keep spoiling him like this.” Lu Chengmin frowned; his own father always protected his eldest grandson.

Lu Yaodong waved his hand, and Lu Chengmin had no choice but to leave.

"You've grown up. You're not even willing to have a meal with your grandpa," Lu Yaodong scolded Lin Lubai, but there was no blame in his words.

"I'll come back to have dinner with you on your birthday in a few days. Don't be so sentimental," Lin Lubai replied.

"Forget it, let's stay with that girl. Otherwise, she'll run away and we'll end up as bachelors again like me."

Yi Yi was resting on the sofa, her back to them, but she could hear the entire conversation between the grandfather and granddaughter.

"She can't escape, she's your granddaughter-in-law." Lin Lubai curled his lips.

"Xiao Chen said the same thing to me a year ago. And now, when I asked him to bring someone back for dinner, he said they broke up." Lu Yaodong shook his head helplessly.

"Don't worry, I can't escape. You have to believe in my charm," Lin Lubai laughed.

“I’m more worried about you. Xiao Chen has been sensible since he was little, but you’re like a wild horse that’s been run away from its reins, which makes me anxious,” Lu Yaodong said with a laugh.

"You should worry about yourself. You're too old to be thinking about so much." Lu Sichen didn't want to continue the topic.

Xiao Chen? Surname Lu? Could it be Lu Sichen? If she misheard the first time someone said Xiao Chen, this time she heard it very clearly.

Xiang Yi's heart pounded. It must be a coincidence—the same surname and the same pronunciation. Lu Sichen had been renting all year; if his home was so close, there was no need for it. She must be overthinking it.

She tried hard to hear who they were talking about next, but they never mentioned that person again.

Xiang Yi stood there anxiously for a long time, until Lin Lubai called her away.

"Remember to bring her back for dinner then, so I can prepare a decent gift for her," Lu Yaodong instructed.

"Okay," Lin Lubai agreed.

"Girl, remember to come back for dinner with Xiaobai later." Lu Yaodong said as if he was afraid Lin Lubai would change her mind.

“Okay, goodbye Grandpa,” Xiang Yiyi replied obediently.

Lin Lubai took Xiang Yiyi's hand and walked to the door, where they bumped into Lu Chengmin who was coming in.

"Have a meal before you go. Your Aunt Lin and Xiao Chen are on their way back. Let's have a meal together as a family, and my son and I can have a good chat." They ran into Lu Chengmin just as they stepped out the door.

"No interest! You guys eat by yourselves. I'll talk to you when my mom comes back to life," Lin Lubai retorted bluntly.

"Remember to come back for Grandpa's birthday dinner this weekend."

Lu Yaodong's face turned purplish-red, he was so angry he was about to explode, but in the end he just sighed.

"Okay." Lin Lubai opened the car door, and the two drove away.

Xiang Yiyi couldn't understand it. Looking at Lu's father, he was a kind father, so she didn't know why Lin Lubai treated him like an enemy.

Just as their car turned the corner, a flashy red car drove into the yard and passed by their vehicle.

The red car honked its horn, but Lin Lubai seemed not to recognize it and ignored it.

Xiang Yi was still preoccupied with Xiao Chen's problem and didn't notice the car coming from the opposite direction until the horn sounded, at which point she saw a red car parked in her rearview mirror.

Seeing that the people in the car didn't stop, the owner of the red car looked somewhat disappointed.

Over the years, he had tried to get closer to him and to tell him that he could give up everything from the Lu family. But it all seemed to be in vain.

Lu Sichen sighed. Could everything have been different without him? He gritted his teeth, lit a cigarette, and smoked it in the car.

After finishing his cigarette, he smiled at himself in the mirror and drove back to the Lu residence.

"Grandpa, has my brother left?" Lu Sichen saw Lu Yaodong sitting in a recliner drinking tea.

"Yeah, you brought a girl here for me to see. When are you going to find me a granddaughter-in-law?"

“Who would find someone right after breaking up? Grandpa, do you think I’m such a fickle person?” Lu Sichen said seriously.

"Hehehe." Lu Yaodong laughed. His grandson was the warmest and most sensible one.
