Don't meet me in your next life.

Chapter 38 Engagement Ceremony

At 9 a.m., Lin Lubai returned to the Lin family home.

"Grandpa, how are you?" Lin Lubai got out of the car and went straight to his grandfather.

"Child, Grandpa has something to tell you, and I hope you'll agree," Grandpa said solemnly to Lin Lubai.

"What is it, Grandpa?" Lin Lubai couldn't help but feel nervous when he saw his grandfather looking so serious.

“A few days ago, the old man of the Su family came to me and insisted that I arrange your engagement ceremony with Qiaoqiao no matter what. I knew you wouldn’t agree, so I took it upon myself to agree. I even sent out the invitations and booked the hotel. I called you back today to get engaged to Su Qiaoqiao.” Grandpa’s hands trembled slightly.

"Grandpa, you know I don't like Su Qiaoqiao, and I've told you that before." Lin Lubai gritted his teeth, clenched his fists, and his expression darkened.

“I know, but when Grandpa said that last time, the Su family wasn’t wrong. We have to give them an explanation. Qiaoqiao likes you so much, why don’t you give it a try? Besides, it’s an engagement, not a wedding.” Grandpa’s voice was a little agitated.

"Grandpa—." Lin Lubai didn't know what to say.

"Alright, things have already come to this. Let's go to your engagement party today. I've prepared everything. You just need to change your clothes and show up. Grandpa is already this old, so please make an exception for me and let me see your engagement ceremony." Grandpa played the emotional card.

Lin Lubai sat down without replying and closed his eyes.

Lin Lubai's phone rang once in his pocket, but he ignored it and it stopped on its own. Then it rang urgently again.

"Your phone is ringing," his grandfather reminded him.

Lin Lubai then picked up the phone; it was Su Mingli calling.

"Xiaobai, you already know, right?" Su Mingli asked him.

"Hmm." Lin Lubai didn't want to talk.

"You'll be there, right? Let's get the engagement ceremony done first." Noticing the weariness in his voice, Su Mingli advised him.

"Mm," Lin Lubai replied simply.

"Then let's leave it at that. We'll discuss everything after the engagement party." Su Mingli hung up the phone.

"Brother, let's go back, Xiaobai." Su Qiaoqiao said with some worry.

"I will go, don't worry." Su Mingli patted his sister's head.

Can someone who gets his body but not his heart truly be happy? Su Mingli began to wonder if he was pushing his good brother and sister into an even deeper pit.

However, since things have come to this point, they have no way out.

Lin Lubai changed his clothes and went to the engagement hotel with his grandfather. It was his grandfather who caused this mess, so what could he do?

When his uncle returned, Lin Lubai was just about to leave when his grandfather called him to go with him.

Lin Lubai didn't say a word the whole way. When they arrived at the hotel, Lin Lubai didn't say much either. He sat quietly to one side, fidgeting with the hem of his clothes, looking as sad as a child. His uncle looked at him with heartache.

Xiang Yi had just arrived at the Su family's house.

The Su family home was very large, a luxurious mansion decorated in a European style, which looked very fashionable. Without someone to guide her, she wouldn't have been able to find her way at all.

The airport was a bit far from the Su family home. By the time Xiang Yi arrived, it was almost ten o'clock. Su Qiaoqiao had already left, leaving Su Mingli to wait for her.

"Hello, AY. I am Su Mingli, the young master of the Su family." As soon as Xiang Yi arrived, Su Mingli quickly went to open the door.

This is a top-notch wedding dress designer that the Lin family patriarch hired, so he dared not neglect him.

A woman stepped out of the car, her face delicate and radiant, her lips pink, her dress slightly loose yet not bulky—simple yet elegant, making her instantly pleasing to the eye.

If it weren't for the Lin family patriarch's instructions to take special care of her because of her pregnancy, Su Mingli probably would have fallen into the trap herself.

"Hello, I'm so sorry, I should have come back a day earlier," Xiang Yi said with a smile.

"It's alright, it's just right. Let's go to the engagement party first," Su Mingli said.

“Okay,” Xiang Yi said.

"This is a congratulatory gift that my mentor asked me to bring to the newcomers." Xiang Yi handed over the gift.

"Okay, thank you, and please thank your mentor for me," Su Mingli said. "Let's go."

Su Mingli opened the car door for Xiang Yiyi, and only after she got in did he walk around to the front to drive.

The two got into the car and set off, chatting about the scenery of Lucheng along the way, which made it quite interesting.

When they parked their car and walked into the banquet hall, the engagement party had already begun.

Lin Lubai and Su Qiaoqiao raised their glasses and followed the ceremony led by the etiquette staff, surrounded by a large crowd.

When Xiang Yi entered, this scene was just taking place.

Seeing that the newlyweds were surrounded by people, she, being a pregnant woman, knew it wasn't appropriate for her to squeeze in, so she found a table nearby and sat down.

At this moment, Xiang Yi began to carefully examine the banquet hall.

Upon entering, Xiang Yi was immediately drawn to the engagement hall, but out of politeness, she didn't examine it closely.

Looking closely now, the entire hall feels like a dream – a grand engagement hall with gorgeous decorations, exquisite details, crystal chandeliers on the ceiling, and soft pink carpets on the floor, making one feel as if they are on a cloud.

A white piano sat on the stage, and a huge oil painting served as the backdrop, creating a romantic and warm atmosphere. Each table in the hall was adorned with a bouquet of flowers, making one feel as if they had stepped into a fairytale world.

The decorations looked expensive, showing how much the groom valued his bride. Looking in the direction of the bride and groom, Xiang Yi felt they were destined for happiness.

Lin Lubai moved like a puppet, following the voice of the etiquette, and the smile on his lips looked uglier than a cry.

Su Qiaoqiao smiled happily; she had been waiting for this moment for several years, and it had finally come true.

After the newlyweds exchanged rings, they invited everyone to sit down, and the elders from both families began to speak.

From Xiang Yiyi's angle, she could just see the girl. The girl was very beautiful, with fair skin and a graceful figure. She was wearing a blue and white dress, like a princess.

Xiang Yi thought to herself, "A guy who marries a girl like that must be very handsome too."

However, as the crowd dispersed, the boy's face appeared in front of Xiang Yiyi.

Tall and imposing, with delicate yet sharply defined features, and a cold expression. This was the face she longed for day and night.

Engaged? He got engaged today? Xiang Yi felt like the whole world had gone dark, and tears streamed down her face. Only seven months had passed, and he was already engaged to someone else.

Seeing Lin Lubai toasting the girl, Xiang Yi disregarded her own emotions, stood up, and quickly walked out. Since he had already found his own happiness, she shouldn't bother him anymore.

After leaving the banquet hall, Xiang Yi hailed a taxi on the roadside and left.

As Lin Lubai reached the gate, he glanced at the woman's back and realized it looked familiar. He quickly chased after her, but found no one there.

Perhaps he was too preoccupied with his thoughts and misjudged the situation. Lin Lubai turned his head and slowly walked back to the banquet hall.
