The Young Swordsman of Dalu
Chapter 95 Leaving the Northern Frontier
Murong Bo of the Northern Dynasty sent a special envoy to Beijiang City to negotiate with Shangguan Chenxing. Shangguan Chenxing also received a letter from Li Chaoyang, who told him that if Murong Bo agreed to the peace talks, they should take this opportunity to sign a non-aggression pact between the two countries.
Murong Bo readily agreed to the terms of the contract without any objection.
Shangguan Chenxing felt uneasy, as everything was going too smoothly.
“General Shangguan, there’s no need to worry. Murong Bo is just biding his time. He’s determined to lead the Northern Dynasty to prosperity. He won’t pose any threat to our Great Lu in the short term,” Wenjie said.
"We can't let our guard down. After all, having a wolf from the north sleeping next to us isn't a good thing," Wenfei said.
“You two brothers are really good at this, I’ll keep an eye on him.” Shangguan Chenxing said with a smile.
"General Shangguan, have you received any news from my father and the others upon their return to the capital?" Wenjie asked.
"The Feng family father and son are currently imprisoned in the Ministry of Justice's jail, awaiting their fate. Elder Li has already returned to Wenxian Pavilion," Shangguan Chenxing said.
"How did Prince Zhou handle it?" Wenjie asked.
"I don't know? There's been no news about him from the capital," Shangguan Chenxing said.
In Beijiang City, Wenfei and Li Wei were wandering aimlessly through the streets.
Li Wei found Wen Fei's listless appearance rather boring and complained, "Wen Fei, you're making a face, do you not want to come with me?"
“Grandma, no! I just don’t want to go back to the capital,” Wenfei said.
"Wouldn't it be better if you came back to Wenxian Pavilion with me?" Li Wei said.
“I’m not going! Your grandfather doesn’t welcome me,” Wenfei refused.
“You’re so petty, still holding a grudge against my grandfather?” Li Wei said.
“I’m a person with a lot of pride. Back then, your grandfather tried every means to drive me down the mountain, but I didn’t want to go back,” Wenfei said.
"I'm telling you to go back, will you go back?" Li Wei asked loudly.
"You! Hahaha! You're not going back!" Wenfei laughed.
"Wenfei! You'll regret this!" Li Wei stormed off in a huff.
"This guy is really interesting! He's even angry." Wen Fei said, watching Li Wei's retreating figure.
Liang Feiyan saw all of this, and she walked up to Wen Fei and said, "You men will never understand what girls are thinking."
“Sister Feiyan! You’re out too? Didn’t my second brother come with you?” Wenfei said.
"He has something to do with General Shangguan, so I came out for some fresh air," Liang Feiyan said awkwardly.
“Sister Feiyan, my second brother is a cold-on-the-outside-but-warm-on-the-inside person. You must not keep your thoughts to yourself. You must tell him in person and let him know your thoughts. This is very important,” Wenfei said.
"Wenfei, aren't you going to go after Weishi? She's angry," Liang Feiyan said.
"Girls can be troublesome sometimes," Wenfei said helplessly.
"Have you noticed that Wei's attitude towards you has improved a lot? Why did she get angry with you? It's because she cares about you." Liang Feiyan suddenly enlightened Wen Fei.
“Sister Feiyan, that’s impossible! I’m always picking on her, she should hate me,” Wenfei said.
"Sigh! I'm not going to say anything more." Liang Feiyan shook her head and went to the front.
Wen Fei stood there for a moment, then slapped his forehead and said, "Impossible, right? Li Wei likes me? Impossible! Absolutely impossible!"
When Wenjie came out of Shangguan Chenxing's room, he saw Shangguan Xingyun walking back and forth in the courtyard.
"Does Miss Shangguan need to see the General?" Wenjie asked.
"I'm looking for you," Shangguan Xingyun said.
Wenjie couldn't believe that Shangguan Xingyun actually wanted to see him: "Miss Shangguan, if there's anything I can help you with, Wenjie will do his best."
“Let’s go outside and have a proper talk,” Shangguan Xingyun said.
"Okay." Wenjie followed Shangguan Xingyun out of the courtyard.
Wenjie and Shangguan Xingyun walked out of the border camp gate and sat down in the teahouse at the entrance. They ordered a pot of tea and drank for a while without saying a word. Wenjie was a little nervous and didn't know how to start the conversation.
It was Shangguan Xingyun who broke the silence: "Young Master Wen, I have been traveling the world with my master since I was a child, and I like to speak my mind. If I have said anything inappropriate, please forgive me."
“You speak!” Wenjie said.
“I know you like me, but you shouldn’t do this. Miss Liang is a very good woman. She loves you very much. Don’t let her deep affection for you go to waste,” Shangguan Xingyun said.
"Feelings can't be forced," Wenjie said.
"Young Master Wen, don't have any expectations of me. I, Shangguan Xingyun, will not interfere in other people's relationships. You shouldn't expect me to fall in love with you either. I don't want anything to do with you in the future. Please have some self-respect, Young Master Wen." Shangguan Xingyun got up and left.
At this moment, Wenjie felt as if he were being pricked by needles. The woman he had secretly loved for ten years was so resolute, but it was also in line with Shangguan Xingyun's character.
All of this was observed by Liang Feiyan, who was standing at a distance, and she felt a mix of emotions.
Wenjie was lost in thought in the teahouse when Liang Feiyan noticed him and walked up to him: "Second Young Master, what's wrong?"
Upon seeing Liang Feiyan, Wenjie immediately snapped out of his daze: "Miss Liang, you're back."
"Is something on your mind? Tell me, maybe I can help you?" Liang Feiyan said.
"It's getting late, let's go back!" Wenjie got up and walked towards the gate of the border camp.
Disappointed, Liang Feiyan followed Wenjie into the border defense camp.
A few days later, Shangguan Xingyun bid farewell to his parents.
"Yun'er, when you return to Beishan, please give my regards to Abbess Wuyi. Take care on your journey and write to your parents often," Shangguan Chenxing instructed.
Wang kept crying. Shangguan Xingyun helped his mother wipe away her tears and pulled her to his father's side. She then knelt down and kowtowed in front of her parents.
"Your daughter cannot be by your side to fulfill her filial duties. Please take good care of yourselves here on the frontier," Shangguan Xingyun said.
Shangguan Chenxing and his wife stepped forward to help their daughter up, saying, "Don't worry, with your brother here, you can go with peace of mind."
Shangguan Xingyun left the northern frontier and headed towards the northern mountains.
Wenjie originally planned to go back with Shangguan Xingyun, but he realized that Shangguan Xingyun was deliberately avoiding him. He wisely waited until Shangguan Xingyun left before bidding farewell to Shangguan Chenxing.
"All good things must come to an end. I don't know when we will meet again. General Shangguan, thank you for your guidance and care during these days in the northern frontier. I will remember it all," Wenjie said.
"Wenjie, you young people have given me hope for the Great Lu. You have a lot to achieve!" Shangguan Chenxing exclaimed.
"General Shangguan, Wenfei and I will first escort Miss Li and Miss Liang back to Wenxian Pavilion, and then return to Nanshan to see our master. Farewell." Wenjie bid farewell to Shangguan Chenxing and led Wenfei and the others out of Beijiang City.
Outside the city of Beijiang, Sang Ziqi and Ayiguli were saying goodbye to Wenjie and the others.
Aygul held onto Li Wei and Liang Feiyan tightly, crying and refusing to let go.
"But, Feiyan, you must come to see me in the northern frontier again," Ayiguli said, weeping.
“Sister Ayiguli, we will definitely come to see you, and you are welcome to visit Wenxian Pavilion,” Li Wei said.
“Okay, I’ll wait until after I give birth to the baby,” Aygul said, touching her belly.
"That's wonderful! Sister Ayiguli is going to be a mother!" Li Wei said happily.
"Congratulations! Sang Ziqi, you've kept this a secret well," Wenjie said.
"I haven't had a chance to tell you yet?" Sang Ziqi said apologetically.
"Brother Sang, why are you blushing? Are you embarrassed?" Wenfei said.
"Alright, all good things must come to an end. Farewell, my good brother Sang Ziqi! Best wishes to you both! Farewell!"
"Goodbye, Brother Sang!"
Sang Ziqi and Ayiguli watched their departing figures, then clung tightly to each other.
