The Young Swordsman of Dalu
Chapter 48 Another Perilous Encounter
Wenfei lay in bed but didn't fall asleep immediately. Although he was very tired, he was still a little worried after learning from his previous experience. He told Changsheng to go to sleep first, and then he listened carefully to the sounds outside.
Around midnight, Wenfei was so sleepy he could barely stay awake. Just as he was about to drift off to sleep, he suddenly heard the door to the main room creak open. Wenfei immediately woke up, jumped out of bed, and looked out through the crack in the door. He saw the old man walking towards their west room.
"Does he want to kill us too?" Wenfei said, quickly climbing onto the bed and pretending to be asleep.
A moment later, the door opened, and the old man walked to their bedside, looked at them, and muttered to himself, "I was already quitting, but you guys just had to come to me. What am I supposed to do?" As he spoke, he was about to strike Wen Fei and the others on the head.
At the critical moment, Wen Fei leaped into the air and shouted, "Chang Sheng, get up quickly! We've been tricked again!"
"What's wrong, young master?" Changsheng suddenly sat up.
“You’re quite clever! But it won’t work. You’ve drunk my medicine, which is a slow-acting drug. As soon as you exert yourself, you’ll run out of strength, so you should just give up,” the old man said.
"Who exactly are you? We've been calling you 'Grandpa' all this time," Wen Fei said angrily.
"He's known in the martial arts world as the Scorpion King," the old man said.
“You are skilled in using poison,” Wen Fei said.
"You have a good eye," the Scorpion King said, turning on the lamp.
"What do you want?" Wenfei asked.
"I want something from your bodies," the Scorpion King said with a wicked smile.
“We don’t have a single valuable thing on us, what do you want?” Changsheng said.
"Blame yourselves for being too young. I want just one part of you," the Scorpion King said.
“You’re selling human organs! This isn’t just a modern phenomenon,” Wen Fei said.
"Young Master, what are you saying again? What should we do?" Changsheng said in despair.
"Senior Scorpion King, which part of our body do you want?" Wen Fei asked.
"Keep your livers, I don't want anything else," said the Scorpion King.
“A person will die without a liver. Let’s discuss this. How about you only take his liver?” Wenfei said, pointing at Changsheng.
"Young Master is indeed hard to change his nature," Chang said angrily.
"Shut up!" Wen Fei snapped.
“Shut up! Why should I only have his? I want yours too, so this old woman can eat two young livers,” the Scorpion King said.
"Is the old lady sick?" Wenfei asked.
"Ten years ago, she was stung by my pet scorpion king while trying to save me. Her liver was injured, and I took her to see many famous doctors, but none of them helped. Finally, I met a doctor from your south. He was different from other doctors. After examining her, he said that he could only replenish what was missing, otherwise my wife would soon die. To keep her alive, I first went to the mountains to catch small animals. Then I thought that eating human liver might help, and I couldn't stop. I took human livers for her to eat. I was afraid she would be scared, so I told her it was the liver of a small animal. Then, one day, that doctor from the south suddenly returned to me and took my wife's pulse. He found that my wife's health had improved a lot, and he knew that I had done something I shouldn't have done. He was not only skilled in medicine, but also in martial arts. I was no match for him. In the end, I promised him that I would never kill again. Then he left a prescription and left. These past few days, my wife's illness has worsened again, and that prescription is no longer effective. You have come to my door again, and I have seen hope again," said the scorpion king.
"What you've done is despicable. Stop right now! The old lady's illness should be curable. Don't kill anyone else. Quickly detoxify us, and I promise to cure the old lady," Wenfei said.
"Do you possess medical skills?" the Scorpion King asked.
"I don't know how, but I have a friend who does. She's a highly skilled doctor; any difficult or complicated illness is a minor ailment in her eyes," Wenfei said.
"Where in the world can a doctor be so skilled? I don't believe it!" said the Scorpion King.
“Today, you let the old lady eat our liver, but it won’t cure her illness completely. If my friend can cure her, she won’t have to suffer for the rest of her life,” Wenfei said.
“I still don’t trust you,” the Scorpion King said.
"Old man, trust them this once!" The old woman walked in from outside.
“Old woman, you know everything,” the Scorpion King said.
"I've had enough. If you're going to kill someone, you might as well kill me first," the old woman said.
"Alright, invite your friend over to treat my old woman. He can stay here," the Scorpion King said, pointing at Changsheng.
"Young Master, I'm scared!" Changsheng was about to cry.
"Don't be afraid, Changsheng, I won't abandon you," Wenfei comforted him.
“He will be safe once you bring the doctor back,” the Scorpion King said.
"To be honest, senior, we have important business to attend to in the northern border. I will bring my friend here to treat the old lady as soon as I return," Wen Fei said.
"Liar, you deserve to die!" the Scorpion King roared.
"Don't mention it, senior. We're just discussing this. How about I write to my friends and ask them to come here as quickly as possible?" Wenfei said.
“Do as you say,” said the Scorpion King.
The old woman brought over a brush, ink, paper, and inkstone. Wenfei hurriedly wrote a bunch of things on the paper and showed them to the Scorpion King.
"Your handwriting is so bad, how can your friend understand it?" the Scorpion King asked.
"I can understand it," Wenfei said confidently.
“I’ll go to the market and find a postman to send it out when it’s light,” said the Scorpion King.
“Senior, I’d like to discuss this with you. How about this: let him stay and wait for my friend, and I’ll head north first,” Wen Fei said, pointing at Chang Sheng.
“Young Master, this is not good,” Changsheng objected.
"Shut up!" Wen Fei said.
“I’m afraid you’ll go and get reinforcements,” the Scorpion King said.
“We don’t have any friends here, otherwise we wouldn’t have come to you. Besides, I really have something urgent to attend to,” Wenfei said.
"What are you going to do in the north? I heard there's going to be a war there. Both sides have amassed a lot of troops and are locked in a stalemate, neither willing to give in. It looks like war is really going to break out," the Scorpion King said.
"To be honest, I'm going to find my master," Wenfei said.
"Who is your master?" the Scorpion King asked.
“Ji Wuchang, the Flying Hero of the Western Continent,” Wen Fei said.
“The Flying Hero of the Western Continent is really your master. Why didn’t you say so sooner?” the Scorpion King said.
"Do you know my master?" Wenfei asked.
“He is my benefactor. Back in the Northern Dynasty, I was in danger and I would have died there if it weren’t for the Flying Hero of the Western Continent. Today, I am going to kill my benefactor’s disciple. I am truly ashamed of my benefactor’s life-saving grace!” the Scorpion King said with remorse.
"Senior, please don't do this. Since that's the case, why not let us go north?" Wen Fei said.
"I'll give you the antidote, now you can leave," the Scorpion King said.
After taking the antidote, Wenfei said, "Senior, after dawn, send out the letter I wrote. My friend will come, believe me. I only ask that you not kill any more innocent people."
"I'll never do that kind of thing again. Once my wife's illness is cured, I'll turn myself in," the Scorpion King said.
Wenfei and Changsheng bid farewell to the Scorpion King and his wife and raced northwards.
Later, Liang Feiyan passed by this place and treated the Scorpion King's wife with acupuncture and herbal medicine for a period of time, and the Scorpion King's wife's condition improved. Moreover, through the Scorpion King, Liang Feiyan also guessed that the doctor who came from the south back then was probably his father, Liang Shixian, but that's another story.
