The Young Swordsman of Dalu
Chapter 13 Teacher, I'm Back
Wen Fei's trip to Wenxian Pavilion was scheduled. Prince Wen didn't want to see his son in the palace for even a moment. It was as if the father and son were enemies from a past life, and had come together in this life.
Rather than saying he disliked his son, it was more accurate to say that the trauma inflicted on him by his son's mother caused him to take his anger out on his son. In a way, it was all due to Prince Wen's amorous nature.
Back then, when Prince Wen Jun was still alive, his son Wen Tao was making friends with heroes all over the world. Wen Jun had warned him not to be too ostentatious with the Wen family's current status, or he would be in big trouble. Wen Tao had just returned from his mission to the Western Regions and was in high spirits. He became a little arrogant and met Wen Fei's mother, a woman from the martial arts world. No one knew her background. She wore a long green dress, carried a sword, and had a cold face, but it couldn't hide her beauty. People only knew her as "Green Dress".
When Wen Tao first saw Green Robe, he fell in love with her. During that time, Wen Tao followed Green Robe to the far South China Sea. The Wen family was in chaos. The dignified heir of the royal family had actually followed a woman of unknown origin from the martial arts world. Prince Wen Jun was so angry that he vomited blood and cursed his son for being unfilial. The princess was also so angry that she fell ill.
Soon after, the man in green was designated a wanted criminal by the imperial court. It turned out he was a remnant of the Yuan Dynasty's royal family. The emperor ordered Wen Tao to personally lead troops to arrest him. If he disobeyed the imperial order, the entire Prince Wen's family would face extermination. Wen Tao couldn't believe that the woman he loved was a remnant of the Yuan Dynasty's royal family. Although he was unwilling, the entire court and the Prince's mansion were pressuring him to make a decision.
Wen Tao brought Green Robe back to the Wen Prince's residence because Green Robe begged him to let her give birth to their child, promising to commit suicide rather than cause Wen Tao any trouble. Wen Tao then knelt and pleaded with the old Prince Wen. Helpless, Wen Jun had no choice but to drag his ailing body to the palace to plead with the emperor. The emperor, considering Wen Jun's life-and-death sacrifices for the Great Lu Kingdom, granted his request.
Soon after, Green Robe gave birth to Wen Fei. She quietly left the Prince Wen's mansion and went to the Yulu River, where she and Wen Tao first met, where she drew her sword and committed suicide.
The green clothes became an indelible shadow in Wen Tao's life. Whenever he saw Wen Fei, his emotions were complicated and contradictory, and he didn't know how to treat him.
Although he lost his mother at a young age and was unloved by his father, Wenfei grew up under the protection of his late wife, the late Prince Wenjun, who instructed him to treat him well before his death. To attract Prince Wen's attention, Wenfei constantly caused trouble, hoping to be personally disciplined by the prince. Wenfei envied his older brothers from a young age; their father personally taught them martial arts and hired teachers for them, while he had nothing. The prince ignored him, seemingly leaving him to fend for himself. The more this happened, the more trouble he caused, secretly pleased when his father was angry with him.
"My life is similar to yours, except for one thing: I'm very self-disciplined. Although I lost my mother and my father doesn't care about me, I haven't gone astray under my grandmother's guidance. At least in other people's eyes, I'm still a good kid," Wenfei thought to himself.
Wenxian Pavilion is more than 800 li away from Yulu City, which is the capital. It would take about ten days to get there by fast horse. Prince Wen wrote a letter half a month ago and sent it to Wenxian Pavilion by fast horse. Presumably, Elder Li has already received it and his reply should be on its way back. If we wait patiently for a few days, Elder Li's letter may arrive.
Wen Fei wasn't in a hurry. He didn't want to go to that place at all. He wanted to find a way back to the modern world and didn't want to stay there for another second. Prince Wen, on the other hand, was extremely anxious. He wanted Wen Fei to leave the palace as soon as possible, as far away from him as possible.
The old princess was furious when she learned that the prince was going to send Wenfei to Wenxian Pavilion again. On the day of the incident, the old princess arrived in a huff as soon as the prince returned home from the morning court session.
“Mother, if you need anything, you could just have the servants tell me. Why did you come all the way here in person?” Wen Tao said respectfully.
"I heard you're sending my grandson to Wenxian Pavilion again?" the old princess asked.
“Mother, I’m only doing this for Wenfei’s own good. Letting him go there to learn some skills to support himself is a good thing for him,” Wentao said.
“Wenfei doesn’t like it there. You insist on making him go. You can hire teachers and masters for him to study and practice martial arts at home! Why do you have to go to such a far place as Wenxian Pavilion? Besides, Li Chaoyang is such an eccentric old man. You don’t know how difficult he is to get along with. Apart from your deceased father, no one else can stand him. You still want my dear grandson to suffer there.” The old princess said with heartache.
“Mother, if he doesn’t go out and see the world, when will he grow up and become sensible? Once Elder Li’s letter arrives, immediately send Wenfei to Wenxian Pavilion. This matter cannot be delayed at all,” Wentao said.
"You won't listen to me anymore, I might as well die!" The old princess cried and left in grievance.
"Oh, Mother! Why don't you understand my good intentions?" Wen Tao said, looking at the old princess's retreating figure.
Sure enough, a letter from Wenxian Pavilion arrived at Prince Wen's residence the next day. Wen Tao read the reply from Elder Li, who essentially agreed to let Wen Fei return to Wenxian Pavilion to study, but said he wouldn't be responsible for whether Wen Fei succeeded or not. Wen Tao didn't care about such things; he was just relieved that Wen Fei was going to Wenxian Pavilion.
Wen Tao dared not delay, fearing that Elder Li might suddenly change his mind again. On the day he received the letter, he told Wen Fei to pack his bags quickly so that they could set off as soon as possible.
On a crisp autumn morning, Wenfei first went to the old princess's residence. The old princess was weeping and wailing, and Wenfei reluctantly bid her farewell. Wenfei then went to say goodbye to Wentao, but Wentao did not return to see him off, citing the morning court session as the reason. Wenfei had no choice but to say goodbye to the princess, Wenhao, and Wenwu. Accompanied by Changsheng, he rode westward at full speed straight to Wenxian Pavilion.
After traveling for less than nine days, they arrived at the foot of Wangtian Cliff. Wenfei and his companion dismounted. Wenfei looked up and saw that Wenxian Pavilion, built on the cliff, was indeed worthy of its name. High on the cliff, several pavilions hung among the green trees and forests, creating a truly beautiful scene.
At the crossroads leading up the mountain, a child blocked their way.
"Are you two visiting Wangtianya for a visit or for sightseeing?" the boy asked politely.
“We came here to learn from a master,” Wenfei said.
"May I ask which master here you two wish to become our disciples?" the boy asked.
"I will take Elder Li Chaoyang as my master," Wen Fei said.
"Please go back, both of you! Our old master stopped accepting disciples a long time ago." The boy gestured for them to go down the mountain.
"We have a letter from the old Pavilion Master to our Prince," Changsheng said anxiously.
"Let them go up the mountain!" a voice came from halfway up the mountain. Wenfei looked up but didn't see a single person.
Upon hearing the sound, the child led them up the mountain. After walking for a while, they arrived at Wenxian Pavilion. Under a pavilion, Wenfei looked around and shouted, "Teacher! I'm back!"
