Quick Transmigration: The Love Rescue Plan
Chapter 81 Intern Doctor (5)
Yingying has always been in charge of managing the Lotus Space. Dong Xiaoshuang, who works with Jiang Guoshou on research, rarely takes out the medicinal herbs from the space, since it doesn't make sense.
Jiang Guoshou's life here can be described as a return to the countryside. In addition to academic research on Chinese medicine and professional knowledge such as the extraction and analysis of Chinese medicine components, Jiang Guoshou also leads everyone to plant medicinal herbs on the mountain.
From the very beginning, we studied Chinese medicinal herbs little by little, researching the influence of the environment on their medicinal properties.
Dong Xiaoshuang also has her own plot of land to grow medicinal herbs, and she chose licorice.
Licorice is an ancient Chinese medicinal herb with the functions of tonifying the spleen and replenishing qi, clearing heat and detoxifying, resolving phlegm and relieving cough, relieving spasms and pain, and harmonizing the effects of other herbs. It is often used for spleen and stomach weakness, fatigue, palpitations and shortness of breath, cough with excessive phlegm, abdominal and limb spasms and pain, carbuncles and boils, and to alleviate the toxicity and harshness of other drugs.
Licorice is used in most prescriptions, which is why Dong Xiaoshuang chose to cultivate it.
Dong Xiaoshuang divided her licorice field into four areas: one area where she planted licorice using normal methods, one area where she planted licorice mixed with soil from the space, one area where she planted licorice using spring water from the space, and the last area where she planted licorice using a mixture of spring water and soil from the space.
The final results showed that the licorice in all four regions had the same medicinal effect, none of which were as good as those grown in the open space.
It seems that the soil and spring water are not the factors affecting the efficacy of the medicine, and Dong Xiaoshuang could not find a breakthrough for a while.
For now, Yingying can only record the changes in air humidity, sunlight, and other factors after licorice was planted in the space.
Dong Xiaoshuang hadn't forgotten about the leader's trip to Q City; she had already set the date on her calendar. However, her research here was still in a bottleneck phase, and Dong Xiaoshuang didn't plan to return to Q City.
However, Dong Xiaoshuang would send the necessary herbs to Shi Yiyi a day or two in advance. As for where they came from, she could simply say that she had found them as natural wild herbs while learning from Jiang Guoshou and collecting herbs in the mountains.
Anyway, Jiang Guoshou's group would occasionally organize trips for everyone to go into the mountains to find wild medicinal herbs.
G City is home to the largest primeval forest in China, and some areas remain unexplored to this day.
Firstly, it's because of the country's protection of virgin forests; secondly, it's because this place is so pristine that some areas really require climbing cliffs and steep slopes to reach.
Jiang Guoshou naturally submitted an application to the state for forest exploration. The state was also deeply concerned about the current development of traditional Chinese medicine, and naturally approved Jiang Guoshou's application.
Of course, the government also instructed Jiang Guoshou not to venture too deep into the forest, and to prioritize safety above all else.
The government also sent several officials to oversee the personal safety of everyone at the research institute.
When Dong Xiaoshuang first arrived here, she wasn't learning about traditional Chinese medicine research, but rather wilderness survival skills. Of course, when Dong Xiaoshuang first arrived, her legs were still weak, and she could barely walk a few steps with the help of crutches. Going into the mountains was definitely not something she was qualified for.
Even if she was responsible for planting medicinal herbs, it was six months after Dong Xiaoshuang removed the steel plates.
During that period, Dong Xiaoshuang was mainly responsible for research work in the laboratory.
Basically, after Jiang Guoshou led the team into the mountains, Dong Xiaoshuang would secretly use instruments to test the difference in medicinal properties between the real medicinal herbs and the medicinal herbs grown in the space.
It must be said that a large part of the decline of traditional Chinese medicine is due to the weakening of the medicinal properties of medicinal materials.
It's like Baihu Tang, which can treat febrile diseases. Baihu Tang prescription: gypsum, anemarrhena, japonica rice, and prepared licorice root.
Anemarrhena asphodeloides is bitter and cold in nature, while gypsum is pungent and cold in nature. Together they serve as the principal herbs to clear heat, release the exterior, purge fire, and detoxify.
Japonica rice is sweet and neutral in nature, and benefits qi, strengthens the spleen and stomach, quenches thirst, and stops diarrhea; roasted licorice root is sweet, neutral and slightly warm in nature, and benefits qi, strengthens the middle jiao, eliminates phlegm and stops cough, relieves spasms and pain, detoxifies, and harmonizes the properties of other herbs.
Both herbs are used as assistant herbs, which can protect the spleen and stomach, prevent the coldness of gypsum and anemarrhena from harming the stomach and thus prevent damage to the body's vital energy, and can also replenish stomach qi, generate fluids and quench thirst.
Although the formula contains only four ingredients, it is balanced in its purgative and tonifying effects. With few ingredients, it is highly effective and is an excellent medicine for treating febrile diseases with excessive heat.
This treatment can be boldly applied to patients with Yangming internal heat who present with high fever, sweating, flushed face, thirst, red tongue with thick yellow or white coating, and a strong or slippery pulse.
However, in reality, the Baihu Decoction prepared in this way cannot cure febrile diseases.
What is febrile disease?
In modern Western medicine terms, these include viral influenza, bronchopneumonia, COVID-19, human infection with highly pathogenic avian influenza, epidemic hemorrhagic fever, epidemic encephalitis B, viral meningitis, epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis, cholera, and so on.
These diseases, which could originally be treated with Baihu Tang or modified Baihu Tang, are now beyond the reach of traditional Chinese medicine due to the weakening of its efficacy. Western medicine, on the other hand, can resolve them simply by administering injections, anti-inflammatory drugs, and oral medications. Therefore, the decline of traditional Chinese medicine's status over time is understandable.
As for the so-called overuse of anti-inflammatory drugs or injections that lower the immune system, people only say that you take medicine or get injections when you're sick; nobody eats medicine when they're not sick.
Besides, tell me, how can you get better if you're sick without taking medicine or getting injections? Injections and medicine can make you better in just two or three days, but Chinese medicine takes one or two weeks to get better. Besides, all medicines have some degree of toxicity, so does that mean Chinese medicine is free of toxicity?
The sooner you get better and stop taking the medication, the sooner your body can detoxify.
This theory hasn't been fully explained yet, and modern TCM practitioners have no way to refute it.
Although prepared licorice root is often added to prescriptions to harmonize the other herbs and reduce toxicity, thus posing no harm to the human body, the undeniable fact that the medicine is less effective is hardly convincing.
Having studied under Jiang Guoshou for so long, Dong Xiaoshuang has witnessed the efforts of her fellow senior students, but with little success.
Oh, by the way, this lab only has Jiang Guoshou and his senior sister; you could say it's a matriarchal society. Of course, all of this is something Jiang Guoshou can do.
It's not that men are unsuitable for this research, but Jiang Guoshou excluded men from his research lab.
It's fair to say that Dong Xiaoshuang's encounter with Li Zihua, such a scumbag, was tragic, but Jiang Guoshou's emotional trauma was even more devastating. This led to Jiang Guoshou's extreme personality, and he never wanted to interact with men again in his life.
If it weren't for applying to the government for permission to explore this forest, Jiang Guoshou wouldn't have left the research lab. The government was aware of Jiang Guoshou's inner conflict, which is why they sent female soldiers to protect him.
Dong Xiaoshuang didn't want to comment on the ins and outs of the whole matter. At the very least, Jiang Guoshou had decided to dedicate his life to the research of traditional Chinese medicine. What did his extreme temperament matter? Who did it affect, who did it hinder, or who did it harm?
As a victim, Jiang Guoshou has the right to choose his own future.
As for why the medicinal herbs were only sent to Shi Yiyi one or two days in advance, it was naturally to preserve the medicinal properties of the herbs to the greatest extent possible.
