Inviting the Moon to the Farmhouse

Chapter 11 Disappointing Return

Xia Lanyue pulled A Xiang along and followed Dai You to the pharmacy.

“Guang? Huang? What… a pharmacy,” Xia Lanyue said, looking at the pharmacy sign.

Upon hearing this, Dai You, who was walking ahead, frowned but didn't say anything and went into the shop.

Dai You greeted "Zhang Langzhong" and walked straight toward Zhang Langzhong.

Doctor Zhang was writing a prescription behind the counter when he saw Dai You approaching. He got up to greet him, saying, "Brother Dai is here."

Judging from their familiarity with each other and Dai You's knowledge of the pharmacy's location, it meant he had been here before. It seemed he was the one who came to fetch Doctor Zhang when she was unconscious, Xia Lanyue thought.

"Hello, Dr. Zhang, I've come to get some more medicine to take back," Dai You said, pointing to Xia Lanyue behind him.

"This is..." Doctor Zhang looked at Xia Lanyue, stammering as if he didn't recognize her.

“You took my pulse yesterday, I’m from Uncle Tian’s family,” Xia Lanyue continued, picking up where Zhang Langzhong left off.

Does combing your hair make you unrecognizable? Is the difference really that big? Xia Lanyue was speechless.

"Now that you're here, young lady, let me take your pulse again," Doctor Zhang said, gesturing for Xia Lanyue to sit down so he could take her pulse.

A moment later, Doctor Zhang picked up his pen, wrote down a prescription, called over a waiter, and arranged for the medicine to be dispensed. "Brother Dai, how many days' worth of medicine do you need?"

"Is seven days okay?" Dai You asked.

“No!” Xia Lanyue stood up and answered quickly, then looked at Dai You ingratiatingly, “I don’t want to take medicine for so many days.” She then discussed with Zhang Langzhong, “Three days, three days will be fine.”

Zhang Langzhong looked at Dai You with a troubled expression but remained silent.

Xia Lanyue then turned to look at Dai You with pleading eyes.

"Haha, does this girl think this is a meal? If she doesn't like it, she won't eat it?" Even the passing waiter couldn't stand it anymore.

Dai You lowered his head, smiled helplessly, and then said to the doctor, "Let's prescribe it for seven days."

Xia Lanyue pursed her lips. They weren't the ones taking the medicine, yet they spoke so casually.

After prescribing the medicine, Dr. Zhang went to attend to other patients.

While waiting for the medicine, Xia Lanyue wandered around the shop. She noticed that Dai You sneaked over to talk to Doctor Zhang while she wasn't looking. When she tried to eavesdrop, Dai You seemed to have noticed her and slipped away.

What's this guy up to? Could he be conspiring with the doctor to tamper with the medicine? Xia Lanyue had always had a feeling that Dai You was hiding many things from her.

When it was time to pay the bill, Xia Lanyue rushed over and quickly pulled out a banknote, handing it to the accountant. "Young man, do you accept this here?" she asked. She had a thought: perhaps the accountant, being knowledgeable, would recognize the banknote. If it could be used here, her future days would be much easier.

Before the accountant could speak, Xia Lanyue's heart sank. She saw a similar look on the accountant's face to that of the calligraphy brush vendor—a blank expression. She was completely disheartened.

Sure enough, the accountant shook his head and returned the banknote to Xia Lanyue.

Dai You took out copper coins from his pocket to pay the bill, then glanced at Xia Lanyue, hesitating to speak.

Xia Lanyue glanced back, but didn't say anything. She slapped the silver note in her hand onto Dai You and turned to find A Xiang.

Dai You reached out and caught the silver note, carefully folded it, and put it in his pocket.

After leaving the pharmacy, it was already past noon. Xia Lanyue had lost interest and followed behind A Xiang, accompanying him as he wandered around the market. Fortunately, the little guy didn't keep asking him for this or that, otherwise she would have had to find a way to appease him.

Dai You followed behind, carrying the medicine bag in both hands.

"Are these banknotes real? You're not lying to me, are you?" Xia Lanyue felt something was off and couldn't help but ask Dai You.

“Young Miss, even though you don’t remember me after you drowned, you still remember these silver notes. Do you think I can fool you?” Dai You said unhurriedly.

That makes sense. Back then, he didn't know Dai Xiyue would lose her memory, so why would he lie to her about that? Besides, there was no need to carry a stack of fake bills with him.

However, Xia Lanyue felt that something was off about Dai You's words; there seemed to be a hidden meaning in them!

While they were talking, A Xiang had already run far away.

Axiang spotted the mule cart under the big tree and his grandfather's figure at a glance, and waved his little hand as he ran towards his grandfather.

Xia Lanyue hurriedly chased after her.

After finishing his meal, Tian Guang left his son-in-law's house and is now taking a short rest in his car.

Axiang ran to the car, trying to climb up and lie down next to his grandfather, but his clumsy movements woke up Tian Guang, who was fast asleep.

When Tian Guang woke up, he rubbed his eyes and saw that his beloved grandson was next to him. He reached out and hugged him, rubbed A Xiang's forehead, and then sat up.

A-Xiang chuckled, broke free from Tian Guang's embrace, sat down beside him, and took out his new pen to show off in front of Tian Guang.

"That's wonderful, did Aunt Yue buy this for you?" Tian Guang said, looking up at Xia Lanyue, "You've gone to so much trouble."

"Uncle Tian is being very polite; it's not much money."

“Uncle Dai bought it for me,” A-Xiang corrected.

Xia Lanyue was taken aback, then gave an awkward laugh.

"Did you thank Auntie?" Tian Guang asked A Xiang.

"You're welcome, Uncle Tian, you're too kind," Xia Lanyue said.

A Xiang looked at Xia Lanyue, whispered "thank you," and then shyly hugged Tian Guang's shoulder.

Xia Lanyue noticed a jar of wine, a cloth bundle, and many packets of medicine in Tian Guang's car, which should be the medicine he brought for Mr. Xia.

"Is this Mr. Xia's medicine?"

Tian Guang nodded.

Afterwards, the group happily took a car home.

On the way, A Xiang got tired and fell asleep with his head on Xia Lanyue's lap.

Xia Lanyue looked at A Xiang. The sleeping little guy was even cuter. His chubby little face bounced with the swaying of the car, making her want to pinch it. His chubby little hands clenched up like little steamed buns, and he was still clutching the new calligraphy brush in his hand.

Xia Lanyue reached out to take the pen, but A Xiang seemed to sense it and gripped the pen even tighter.

Afraid of waking him, Xia Lanyue didn't continue.

Seeing this calligraphy brush, Xia Lanyue had many questions. She whispered to Dai You, "Are Xuan brushes really that expensive?"

Dai Youben, who was sitting at the back of the car with his back to them, nodded when he heard her question. "Mm."

"I didn't know you knew about these things. Can you read?"

Dai You paused for a moment, then nodded and shook his head.

This left Xia Lanyue bewildered. "Do you know how or not?"

"I know a few words," Dai You replied.

Ah, those words are probably his own name, Xia Lanyue didn't ask any more questions.

Ah Xiang slept all the way to the village.

Tian Guang's house was at the entrance of the village. When the mule cart passed by his house, Tian Guang wanted Xia Lanyue to get off and go back to rest, but Xia Lanyue refused. She wanted to take A Xiang home.

Tian Guang thought the journey wasn't far, so he agreed.

Tian Kuan's house is at the end of the village. His yard is bigger and newer than Tian Guang's, so they probably just separated from the family not long ago.

Dai You got out of the car, picked up the sleeping A Xiang, and then followed Tian Guang into A Xiang's house.

"Ah Xiang's mother," Tian Guang called out from the courtyard into the house.
