Upon seeing He Wuyou and his sister in the courtyard, Deputy General Wu asked in a rather amiable manner:

"Excuse me, is this the home of He Jing, the brave warrior?"

He Wuyou and the other girl stood up without answering, their faces showing a hint of wariness.

"Don't misunderstand, little friend. We mean no harm. We just heard about his exploits fighting bandits and wanted to visit him."

The brother and sister exchanged a glance. The person in front of them was dressed in armor and looked imposing, but he didn't seem like a bad guy.

The little girl was quite shrewd. Upon hearing that the other party had come to visit her older brother, she asked, "Since you've come to visit my older brother, why did you arrive empty-handed?"

Deputy General Wu was stumped by He Wuyang's question. He looked at the soldiers beside him, a hint of embarrassment flashing across his face, and he couldn't answer for a moment.

"Uh—this—this—"

Deputy General Wu exchanged glances with the soldiers around him.

Deputy General Wu: Why didn't anyone remind me before I came?

Soldier A: We don't have any experience either.

Soldier B: Right, they're all a bunch of roughnecks, you expect us to do anything?

Soldier C: I'm good at fighting on the battlefield, but I'm completely clueless about interpersonal relationships.

Deputy General Wu: What use are you to me? Sigh—

Hearing the noise in the kitchen, He Jing glanced out the window with a spatula in hand and solemnly warned, "Wuyou and Wuyang, don't be rude. Invite them in."

After saying that, he went back to the stove and busied himself with his work.

Seeing a figure flash by in the kitchen, Deputy General Wu quickly asked the two children, "Who was that person just now?"

The two little ones replied in unison.

“My older brother, He Jing.”

When Deputy General Wu walked into the kitchen, he was almost speechless with astonishment. He never expected that the first time he would see He Jing fighting bandits with his bare hands would be in the kitchen.

He thought He Jing was a burly, strong man with a full beard, capable of shooting eagles with a bow and splitting wood with an axe in one hand.

Before him stood a tall figure, wielding a large wok and cooking. Dressed in coarse linen clothes and an apron, his rolled-up sleeves revealed clearly defined muscles as he skillfully stir-fried the vegetables. Deputy General Wu's nose twitched, and he secretly swallowed.

"Is there something you need, sir?" He Jing asked, his gaze towards Deputy General Wu sharp.

Deputy General Wu met his gaze and began to believe that the young man in front of him was indeed quite capable.

He said, "I've heard that He Zhuangshi is exceptionally skilled. It's a waste of his talent to stay in this small mountain village. With such skills, why not join the army and serve the country?"

"I am grateful for your kind words, but I have no great ambitions and only wish for my family to be healthy and content."

He Jing poured the greens into the pot with a sizzling sound, and the lard in the pot splashed up as it met the water, dripping onto the vegetable leaves. The steam rising from the large iron pot obscured his resolute and focused face, making it difficult to see clearly.

Deputy General Wu glanced at the pot and exclaimed, "Wow, it's juicy and oily!"

"Hero He, please consider the bigger picture. The country comes before the family!"

“There are countless families, how can our small families not count? Besides, our Great Xia is now at peace.” He Jing tossed the ladle without changing his expression.

Vice President Wu continued, "A true man should aspire to travel far and wide."

He stared intently at the food bubbling in the pot amidst the rising steam, and subtly swallowed hard.

Goodness, this smells amazing! It looks delicious, and just the aroma alone is enough to whet my appetite.

At the entrance, several soldiers watched He Wuyou and her brother play a game of fighting grass.

I sniffed; the smell of other people's cooking always seems so good.

It smells so good!

He Jing quickly and efficiently scooped the glistening greens from the pot, then turned to the side and ladled a ladle of cold water into the pot, making a sizzling sound.

As he washed the pot, he said, "People take the big picture, I take the small one. People look far ahead, I look near. Eating, clothing, three meals a day, four seasons—that's enough."

Deputy General Wu: ......

Why does He Jing speak so eloquently, and even make some sense, leaving me unable to refute him?

Living a peaceful and happy life with my family sounds wonderful.
