The Path to Lordship Begins in the North

Chapter 340 The master is the teacher

A special professional arrived at the construction site of the Royal Obelisk.

Sidney, guided by Lisha, was carefully observing the construction of the obelisk.

Although he had been marveling at it before, it wasn't until he personally went into the construction of the obelisk that Sidney realized just how extravagant the project was. A group of mid- to low-level alchemists and rune masters had actually been brought together to build a mage tower that even high-level professionals would find astonishing.

Especially when Sidney saw those interconnected, nested magic circles.

In Sidney's view, the semi-perpetual motion nature of the obelisk was nothing remarkable. After all, mage towers with dedicated maintenance personnel could be passed down for generations. As long as the lineage was not broken, the mage tower itself was a semi-perpetual motion mechanism.

What truly amazed Sidney was the obelisk's incredible compatibility. The mage towers used to be able to power almost exclusively mages, and to prevent anyone other than the tower master from using them, in local parlance, a hundred mage towers might have two hundred different connection ports and all sorts of encryption methods. Let alone ordinary professionals and commoners, even after a few generations, the successors might not be able to figure out how the mage towers were connected.

However, the obelisk has a completely open design. Not only can it be connected to other different magic circles through parent-child magic circles, nested magic circles, etc., but most of them do not require the level of the caster. As long as you know mathematics, you can understand this magic circle.

Of course, this is only in theory. In reality, people who can truly understand mathematics are probably even rarer than those with corresponding professional skills.

Sidney had always wanted his own mage tower, and he came to the mortal world to build an unprecedentedly magnificent mage tower, but now it seemed unlikely. No matter how magnificent the mage tower was, it couldn't compare to this obelisk in Sidney's mind.

It is so beautiful. The higher the level of a professional, the more they can appreciate how grand and beautiful this obelisk is.

When Sidney learned that the mage tower was designed by the little girl in front of him, his heart sank. This was the first time Sidney had felt frustrated, and the first time he had truly admired someone.

Although he was inwardly amazed, Sidney remained outwardly calm. Faced with Lisha's enthusiastic introduction, in order to maintain his image as a high-level professional and reclusive master, Sidney simply nodded silently and did not ask any questions, even if he had any.

This was Lisha's first time encountering a legendary high-level professional, and she was extremely excited.

In particular, Sidney's silver hair flowed smoothly over his shoulders, and his beard was pale and long. He calmly nodded in the face of the complex multi-structured magic array. The bruises on his face had long been healed by the potion. Lisha even felt that the lines on Sidney's face were full of wisdom, making him look like a reclusive sage.

There were definitely some things that Sidney was kept in the dark about the construction of the obelisk, but Lind still allowed Lisha to communicate with Sidney to the maximum extent possible. Besides the fact that Sidney was the first spellcaster to cooperate with Lind, the obelisk was also a huge project. Even if these high-level professionals knew the principles and construction methods, they could not build it on their own.

Of course, if Sidney ran off to Anjou right after the conversation, then Lind would have nothing to say.

When Sidney heard Risha talking about the obelisks, as if the magnificent and enormous obelisks were nothing more than strings of numbers in Risha's eyes, he even began to look at Risha with the eyes of someone looking at a monster.

The tower's master, Anastasia, once said during a conversation with spellcasters that in the eyes of low- to mid-level professionals, magic is just magic, but in the eyes of high-level professionals, magic is not magic, but rather various forms of magical power.

Among true geniuses, magic isn't even magic power, but rather a string of symbolic bytes.

Sidney didn't quite understand it at first and thought the old man was just making things complicated, until he saw the monster that digitized the world with his own eyes.

But Sidney's face was still filled with arrogance, after all, he was a high-level professional, while the other party was just an ordinary person.

When introducing a magic circle that Sidney was very familiar with, Sidney finally spoke up and pointed out to Risha that there was a more material-efficient way to connect the magic circle. Upon hearing this, Risha immediately took out her notebook and wrote it down on the spot.

Seeing that this monster wasn't omniscient or omnipotent, Sid's mustache immediately perked up again, and he said, "What chief runemaster? You're just a greenhorn girl, nothing special!"

Hearing Sidney say this, Lisha was not angry at all. Instead, she said, "You are right. In the face of the vastness of knowledge, what I know is just a drop in the ocean. I am completely incomparable to a great mage like you."

Perhaps due to an extreme inferiority complex bordering on arrogance, Sidney thought Lisha was being sarcastic, and became so agitated that he said, "In that case, why don't you just become the disciple of this great mage?"

"Really? Can I really become your student?"

Seeing Lisha's excited expression, Sidney realized that she was serious.

"You are the nation's chief runemaster. Didn't you consider your own status when you became my apprentice?"

Sidney stroked his beard somewhat guiltily. Although the young girl in front of him lacked some of the knowledge of a true high-level professional like himself, Sidney asked himself honestly that he was not qualified to educate the monster in front of him.

"Those who are accomplished can be teachers, what's wrong with that?"

Sidney stopped in his tracks, watching Lisha's blinking eyes under her glasses.

To be honest, the thirst for knowledge in Lisha's eyes suddenly made Sidney feel ashamed. Sidney seemed to have forgotten why he had embarked on the path of a spellcaster, especially after his wasted time in the tower.

Despite his embarrassment, Sidney still puffed out his cheeks and said, "Of course, no problem. Remember to bring me some gifts and come over to formally become my apprentice. For a high-level spellcaster like me to take an ordinary person like you as an apprentice, you are truly blessed by the goddess and have had a stroke of good luck!"

Then, Sidney continued, "By the way, remember to tell me all about this obelisk and those magic arrays. There are too many flaws in your obelisk. I wasn't planning to talk about it, but since you're my apprentice now, I have to study it carefully. Otherwise, if this obelisk is built in other places in the future, people will probably laugh at me if they hear that it was built by my apprentice."

If there were other high-level spellcasters from the same tower, seeing Sidney's unwilling expression, they would probably have already started cursing the old man for being shameless. But Sidney is currently the only high-level professional here, so the other alchemists and rune masters directing the construction here are actually envious of Lisha.

Being taken in as an apprentice by a high-level spellcaster is something most people wouldn't even dare to dream of.

Lisha immediately agreed, bowing respectfully, afraid of missing this opportunity. Seeing that Lisha didn't seem to realize her own worth, Sidney frowned and asked, "Do you have a magical disorder?"

Lisha nodded and said, "Yes, but don't worry, teacher, it's under control and won't cause you any trouble!"

Upon hearing the word "teacher," Sidney suddenly felt something melt inside him, but he still sneered, "Ha, that governor is nothing special. He can't even cure this. Watch me, I'll find a way to cure you!"
